I don't understand what all the commotion is about. Just because Linden Labs has purchased AU and closed it for the time being doesn't necessarily mean they have no plans whatsoever of re-vamping it to be cross platform in the future. If the creation of web 2.0 has taught us anything, it is that people are now able to find common ground via interoperability. I would really like to see ways of connecting with people in other virtual worlds within SL and I think it's possible. People have been talking about it for a while. And I really doubt that centering it around SL will hinder AU's original functionality to those part of other virtual worlds.
