  1. yeah of course,

it's a super known fact that teachers use to ask their student to come and enjoy SL for their studies....

Well... as i said... i'm not going to bother.

I saw Tommy inworld yesterday, and answered his questions. He also contacted the other peoples who have offered help here in this thread. That's the only thing that matters to me.

The rest is pure bla bla bla, the same we got endlessly here in the past.

I no longer have time for that.

so yeah... I've said what i have to say and now im going to follow Phil's advice and no longer bother.

    have fun !

Don't bother Trinity. There are people here who seem to enjoy jumping on such students. They see a student asking for assistance with their studies, and they seem to automatically go into student-bashing mode, just for the fun of it. It says a lot about their characters.

They make the excuse that the student either isn't one of them already, or isn't trying to be one of them; i.e. an SL user. But it doesn't excuse them in any way. They just show themselves up, and probably sense an unsaid, but mutual, pat on the back. And they probably imagine that, here in this forum, they are speaking on behalf of all users, when, thankfully, it's only a very small number of users. When faced with inworld problems, those same people would no doubt "mute and move on" but, for some unfathomable reason, when faced with this kind of forum thread, they don't want to mute and move on, by simply ignoring it. They feel the need to stick their oar in and be an idiotic busybody.

No but i wont bother, you know.

it looks so weird to me and so senseless to ask someone doing a research to be part of the group lol, that well....i m no longer trying to understand... must be some frustration, or lack of knowledge, or an extreme sensitivity... i dont know.

But well, you said perfectly what i would have said (less perfectly lol).

And well, we all know here, how SL is hard when you start. That it takes long weeks and monthes to start to enjoy it... so yeah..; let's remember our first times in SL and imagine, that on top we had to meet ppl for a research and do interviews etc lol...

Wel, you see... I remember a time, not so long ago, when we would see a flood of these types of posts every spring. Invariably they were all from students who had ZERO info about SL and assumed that it was a MMoRPG like WoW or EverQuest.. This kid, one day in SL and already asking for peoples input in a forum rather than just walking around and asking people inworld.

I am all for helping people.. I give things away constantly. I have freebies in my store and have no probem helping people in SL. The difference is, he has no interest in SL nor does he care one bit about any part of it. He is only here because SL is the biggest name in virtual worlds. And putting that in his dissertation will draw attention to him. A simple search of the forums would have given him a novels worth of good and bad tales of SL.

You obviously have no idea what a student can be asked during their studies. In no way, the teacher has asked to join sl and have fun with that.

Yes, SL is seen here as a subject of study and not as place to hang out for the fun. Where is the offense in that ?

I never understood why people take so much offense everytime someone is asking for this kind of help.

And i remind you your first post here was about geting reward for answering. Now it turns about being offensed by the request. There is a lack of coherence here.

    Your turn to be hilarious.

Hey guys. I'm writing a dissertation for my MA in journalism about virtual worlds and their social impacts, both good and bad. I was hoping to speak to some users about their experiences and thoughts on the subject. Would anyone be willing to speak to me about it? Happy to do so anonymously if preferred. Thanks!

You left out a very vital bit of information... What's in it for us?

Surely the joy of helping another person is reward in itself
    ;)

Drake , with all the friendship i have for you, i dont see where it is hilarious to enjoy helping another person. Really not. Actually i think if more ppl would enjoy helping other ppl the world would be a better one, you see.

And if you cant imagine, that student could have been you, maybe think it could be one of your kids, a nephew, a niece, a cousin, a friend's kid .... and maybe you would find this, suddendly less hilarious.

The tittle of the thread makes it really clear about what it is about. Ppl not interested can avoid to click and that's all. There is room for everyone here, one just needs to avoid what is bothering them.

And as you can see, there are still ppl here who are happy to help without expecting smth in return. There is nothing hilarious about that imho.

  5. Well if its from Hippo there is a lot of chance it works from external sever. Your item called server being the inworld server connected to the web server.

As far as i know most of the services from Hippo were hosted on an external server.

I dont know the update system, but i bet it works a bit like the hippo groups.

With the groups, the list of members was hosted on a webbased server and you could manage it from a website.

Inworld there was also available features, but if you wanted to move a member to a new role, or send smth group wide, or delete someone etc, you had to do it from the website.

For their rental system, the website was more limited as most of the rental features were done by the boxes themselves. BUT no matter what, those ones stopped working aswell, as another thread (old one, but reactivated from this week) is telling, and its causing a lot of issues to people using them.

This, because the datas collected by the boxes are managed externally on a web based server.

And it looks like everything from Hippo was working that way. So if the inworld items cant connect to this website (because it's down) and so cant access to the datas, then it wont be able to work.

i know nothing about this update system, but it would not surprise me if the datas were also stored outside SL and so your box will no longer have access to them. I hope im wrong :)

  6. Well i dont want to seed the trouble here but it happened to me some years ago (3 or 4 i dont rem) that i had muted someone and still i got nc from this person.

They didnt came from IM window and i got no notification about them in IM nor in my mailbox. but they went quietly and silently in my inventory (notecard folder).

How did i fig out ?

From my transaction history, bec as it was an inventory offer, the transaction was recorded in my inventory. And when i logged, i could see the NC in my inventory.

And this didnt happened only once but several times. So unless, LL have changed something, NC and every other inventory offers reach your inventory even sent from muted ppl. Silently.

    Scary no ? :smileyvery-happy:

I dont use the Hippo vendors but I do use the Updater. I am hoping the updater will still work without connecting to anything. Otherwise, disaster.

I would not hold my breathe on that, Pamela. If their server is down this mean nothing will work anymore as long they ll be down.

I had a bad experiment with their service years ago and i definitely stopped to use anything related to them, bec i dont know if one day they happend to have a good service, but when i needed to use their group service, it's been a lame. it took me 15 days to finally get an answer from their support service and by this time i could finally solve the issue by myself. I pointed to them the info given by them was wrong and how to fix it. And no matter what, they never corrected the info. I went several times after to check, and it was still the same (they were giving a wrong slurl for ppl to connect into their account).

After this, i know some ppl have complained here in the forum about the fact they stopped completely their support service. But i knew some services were still working like rental system etc.

But it looks like they totally stopped now. So  well time to switch to another system for the ppl using that one till now.

The hippo story confirm my opinion that i dont want to depend on an external server. Even if a system is working today, you can never tell for tomorrow. (It happened to me for a radio system i bought years ago and that stopped suddendly to work one day when they put their server down).

So for my vendor system, i prefer to use one that is not depending on an external server. I use Old Newman's ones for years now, and i am 100 % happy with it. It has redelivery, gift card, report and several other features, its easy to use, it's not expensive like some others and at least, i know that never i will have to face an issue bec a server will be down, except SL one.

I understand that maybe Hippo's owner wants to do something else with their life and so doesn't want to continue the server service, but by all means, the least they could have done is tell their customers.

  8. You must type your seach and add " NOT "name of the creator" "

example : i want to search a dress but dont want to see my brand appearing,

    i will type :

    dress NOT "Trinity Yazimoto"

and everything that has my name somewhere in the listing wont appear.

(I do this often in order to avoid a famous template maker who is flooding the MP with their craps. It usually works like a charm)

  9. it's a bit hard for me to guess what you are meaning here.

Are you talking about the regular mouth of your default avatar ?

or did you bought some mesh head or mouth ?

or are you wearing some tatoo make up on the face.

Either of them will have a different solution.

So if you can explain me more, or maybe post a pic or a gyazo link, that would be great

  10. Hi and welcome in SL

Some of the things you purchase, come sometimes boxed. Hence you can't wear them like that, you need first to unbox your items.

    For that, you must :

-1 . find a place you are allowed to rezz items on the ground (if you dont own a land, type "sandbox" in the sl search and go in one of them. They are place where people are allowed to rezz stuffs

-- 2. Click on the item in your inventory and while still holding the click, drag and drop to the ground somewhere around you.

-- 3. Right click on the object and select "open",  it will send all the contents in your inventory. Now you can wear the skin you'll have in the new folder

-- 4 Do not forget to clean your box rezzed on the floor after being done. just right click and select "delete". the box will disappear.

    have fun :)

  11. Ok, so the bug with old deleted items reappearing seems to be fixed now.

Now, i have 1 item missing again (lol). But they are on it, so i bet this will be fixed soon.

However, items seems to disappear and reappear in a mysterious way in this beta MP and i do hope that it ll be more stable when it will be released officially, because this start to be quite scary to see items go and come back like that and it wont be possible for me to go daily and check if my listing is correct or not.

Well, let's be optimist and cross our fingers :smileywink:

  12. Hello Grumpity, thank you really much for having fixed this bug really fast.

yes it looks like its been fixed now.

However, one of the listing i listed on sunday, is not appearing now in the beta version of the website.

    The second listing, is appearing.

    https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/PC-Vision-gown-headpiece/8623739

Ive pointed this in the jira aswell. So as soon you can do it, please, give a look to this.

I got 51 items missing in the beta some days ago, and it's been fixed fast. So maybe its again this bug reappearing. The fix doesnt look stable, imho but maybe its inherent to the fact its beta only.

  13. Well, like you i understand they keep some records somewhere in the database, but it shouldnt affect us. We should not be able to see them.

However, when we list related items, we have the listing from day 1. This mean i must scroll in ALL the listing of ALL i ever done from the first day i started using the MP. All the items i ever listed are there. Even the ones i deleted 4 or 5 years ago. Migration to Direct delivery didnt change that. Migration to new system (current one) didnt either. ALL the items are listed somewhere and no, they are not in my marketplace listing manager inworld, neither on my manage listing page on the website.

I make sure everytime i delete smth, to first, unlist, then delete, then delete them in my inworld window aswell (before new system, i was deleting them in the top window on the web page).

Really i did all my best for they disappear totally, but well, LL seems to think otherwise and prefers to keep them and to throw them to my face everytime i have to dive in my listing for adding related items. /me sighs.

If i want to keep an item somewhere, and reactive it later, i would just unlist it and let it go in the inactive folder, so i can relist later if needed.

So well, it looks like with LL, "evolution", "changes" are unknown words. From the day i started my business till today, it's easy to understand i made changes, i did progresses, i improved my skills and the quality of my items and even my adpic layout changed. But that's it. I must have the reminder of the poor skills i add at my first day thrown in my face all along my life in SL maybe..... Somewhat, it's a good way to stay humble, and not forget we all have started one day. :smileyvery-happy:

But that's another story if they are on top displayed in my public listing.

And mind you, one of the new reappearing items has the same bug i had during the migration to DD (for more than one year) : it has a pic that's not mine attached to it and not related at all with the item.

So see... they ALSO keep records of their own bug... maybe bec they want to remain humble aswell :smileywink:

  14. Updates :

So just checked today. I have now 2 extra items on the beta version of the MP and no longer items missing. Both extra items are the old deleted listing coming back, but except them, all the other items are there, nothing in missing.

That's something that makes me already happy, noone would like to see 51 of their items disappear like that, mysteriously.

So now, there is still the bug with old deleted items coming back to be fixed. So let's see...

And of course, the best selling sorting that makes no sense at all.... but well, it wasnt making sense before anyway.

People are heard animals by nature. They do group think purchases. If a product is at the top of a search result, then it will sell alot more than otherwise just for that reason alone.

Well, as i just said, not everyone. lol

hehe. Yes, I'm a victim of that bug that was never fixed. I wonder if the Irene hair ever helped my overall sales though. With all those hair lovers out there, it might have caused them to accidentally stumble across my store? :smileytongue:

OMG !!!!! you still have one of those pics on your MP ??????

    /me faints
