Oh OK so since you know these people for 10 years then i suppose you also Skype together, play other games etc, it's not just SL and avatars. Moving to Meta or wherever is gonna be easy for all of you.

No question most people should probably just go to Meta. I hope the SL platform and all the stuff created endures in some form.

why spend my Sunday afternoon in SL listening to some DJ that on their best day gather 15-20 avatars in the same region and not go to a similar event in Meta or wherever that will have 200-300 people (or even thousands).

I've known 5-10 of those 20 people for possibly a decade. SL isn't a platform full of anonymous thousands of people for me. That's why I come back.

...you can no longer do a bunch of administrative things as an Estate Manager, Resident, or Gamer. This includes, at minimum, easily featuring and viewing parcels for sale within your region, monitoring sim restarts, monitoring how many people are in a particular region, and - for gamers and others - where they are, charting courses for sailing or flying, and more. These are all important uses of the World Map and I don't know of any substitute for some of them.

Most importantly, the World Map made Second Life seem like an actual virtual world for exploring.

I've been thinking about this a lot. I open the World Map, which I use multiple times per session for a bunch of reasons.

It looks like this might be viewed as an expendable feature because the SL user base has evolved so much. The most important users don't cover territory anymore, they just own Linden Homes and shop. And no offense to these folks - they are keeping lots of creators working!

Some people don't seem to know the difference between a chat full of impulsive brain farts and a discussion forum.

Anyway, you evoked some interesting perspectives on SL times since 2012. A successful thread evokes lots of different responses - funny, profound, thoughtful, and otherwise. So just notch a win.

The creator can do what she want, but is this some elitist thinking? My products is so good that I don't need demos?

"Elitism is the belief or attitude that individuals who form an elite—a select group of people with an intrinsic quality, high intellect, wealth, special skills, or experience—are more likely to be constructive to society as a whole, and therefore deserve influence or authority greater than that of others."

It's a fine line. Since the creator is successful enough that her name isn't being shared in this thread, maybe her products are so popular that they speak for themselves. Personally, I prefer to be able to test a demo too, so I wouldn't fall into her customer demographic.

Hey all, let's post our potentially unpopular opinions! What could go wrong?

The heel-click sound should not be muted by default. It's immersive.

  7. Yes, I know this is an ancient thread. The most recent update I've found is here, in this NOW CLOSED thread.

Maybe LL's goal is to get people to interact more in the process of getting these newer homes, in order to generate more community in the region where the homes are. But for people who can't sift through all the old threads, maybe LL could post more information on how to get one of the newer Linden homes on this page - or a link to a clear update:

Good luck with all the releases guys and gals!

any creator wanna take this challenge please

Hi indianwifecute, Definitely check GENUS Project - at minimum you can find an avi you may be happy with, there. Otherwise it could serve as a great foundation for you to build the avi you want, or someone may be able to help with that. Good Luck. I'm including a link to the Genus Project creator's Flickr page.

Tilia will impact upon residents in two possible (and somewhat overlapping) instances:

    1) If you have a USD balance in your account as of, or after, 1 August, you will be required to agree to the Tilia TOS. You will NOT need to provide identification if that is ALL you are doing. However, your USD balance will be subject to an "inactivity fee" if you do not access it at least once every 12 months. Accessing it means simply looking at the balance; in addition, Premium members don't even need to do this, as their Tilia accounts are automatically always considered active. The amount of the fee is still indeterminate but it will be no more than US$3 (and never more than the actual balance of your account, so your credit card or PayPal account won't be billed).

    2) In addition, if you transfer money OUT of SL/Tilia, into Skrill or PayPal, for instance, you will be required to provide ID, including (if you are a US citizen) your SSN.

Tilia has no impact whatsoever on residents who are doing neither of these two things. It has nothing at all to do with L$ balances, or the buying and using of L$.

Thank you. I did read the FAQ but needed to see this clearly stated. I think your post will help a lot of people.

  10. Is this in fact just about cashing out? I'm reading this like you only need to scan your ID and provide other sensitive information if you cash out lindens. Sorry if someone already said this.

"These changes apply to USD credit processing and do not have any impact on the routine purchasing of Linden Dollars. Only Second Life Residents who Process Credit of their USD balance to their payment method (e.g. PayPal)  are impacted by the ID verification requirements"

Yep!  As the others have said, you can find a 512 sq m plot anywhere on the Mainland.  Purchase it, and you will not be charged a monthly tier fee.

Some things to be aware of:

    • You can form a group, invite your own alt to the group (to keep it from being closed by LL - groups need at least 2 members).  Then buy the land for the group and donate your 512 m2 of tier to the group for its upkeep.  The group will actually get 10% MORE tier, for a total of 563 m2...so you can buy a larger parcel this way, without having to pay more tier.

Thank you for this great response.

  11. Thank you, It looks like someone fixed this because later this evening I could upload mesh to the main grid.

Could you do the same thing for my account on ADITI? I have taken the IP test and I tried to add payment info there, but am unable to.

    All the best, RM

  12. Hello. I have confirmation of payment on file as well as confirmation that the IP test is passed, and that I'm registered to upload mesh objects, however when I try I am told I still need to register. Thank you for any help.

  13. The statement in their post, "When I equiped an alpha mask which was intended to hide the extra body parts sticking out when I equip the shoe" pretty much indicates the person was trying to use their shoe alpha that came with the shoes.

This is a known issue in the SL JIra and has been since early December. There are no updates to any of the active Jira tickets, and dozens have been closed due to being duplicates. I'm watching this because I also have this problem in SL Viewer, SL Developer Viewer, and Firestorm. Makes it kind of a bummer when you can't wear your nice shoes. Here are the active Jira tickets. As for inactive ones, a quick search should show them all.
