  1. Thank you Rolig and Tessa. Those limits are very helpful. I put together 4 adjacent regions creating a building area of 1,048,576 m2. You can see from the image below the limit of using a prim across this area. The red circle is the upper limit of a prim (64.0, 64.0, 64.0). However, if you turn off physics you can see the green circle which has dimensions of (255.0, 255.0, 255.0). I going to also test to see what is possible with mesh.
  2. Thanks, Quistess - is there a specification document that explains these limits, such as the maximum size you can make a single prim?
  3. Thank you Quistess, Paulsian and Persephone for the very helpful information. I was thinking about the design of Apple's Headquarters (see below) and thought it might be a good type of design to go with for larger office space. A lot of the textures would be repeated. Mesh or prim blocs could be used to put the basic structure in place. For an architecture like this is there a reason mesh would be better?
  4. Very helpful comments StarlanderGoods. I love the idea of a cache-ing lobby. If I understand you correctly the textures on a mesh needed to be loaded individually as they would on a prim and the database does not store the textures with the mesh object. Please correct me if I am mistaken. Happy to report building has begun, but we still need another 4 builders. Please IM me if anyone has an interest in getting involved. Thank you.
  5. Thanks Paulsian for sharing that. It would be great to have a cathedral near the office buildings like the one below. Someone has already moved a replica of the National Shrine of Divine Mercy. The first image in the real physical one in Stockbridge Massachusetts. and the second you can find on Second Life at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Varsity/140/211/576 I understand your explanation of "1 mesh cube equal 1 land impact. 2 mesh cubes linked together equal 1 land impact." However, Firestorm needs to retrieve and load the item(s) from a database, and I am wondering if anyone has done an analysis of the speed of retrieving 2 prims from a database vs 1 mesh. I would think 1 mesh is faster, but then again, I have never done a performance test to verify, nor I have examined other factors that may be relevant such as the time it takes to load textures onto each. In addition, one has to consider the one time hit of the first load which is cached vs subsequent loads thereafter. Have you ever gone to an amazing sim and found you can't really move around when it gets a little populated? It would be nice to design an office area where the experience is still very responsive when it gets populated. Anyone know the best way to accomplish this?
  6. In terms of operational cost, I think the key will be determining how many avatars would dwell simultaneously within a section of the build. To avoid lag and ensure responsive avatar interactions we would have to split the build across a number of adjacent regions. For example, the lobby may need to be on a different region to the cafeteria and both would have cathedral ceilings. Modular multistory office blocks may also be put together across adjacent regions. It will be fun to see how this develops and evolves over time. Any thoughts on how using mesh building blocks vs prim building blocks would impact lag and the responsiveness of moving within the area?
  7. Paulsian and Rowan, thank you for your comments. I may have one builder who has expressed interest. However, I believe the project would be enhanced with more builders. Please let me know if you come across anyone who wants to work in this area. I have some Linden and I am happy to pay a fair price. Here is an idea of what the offices might look like if I had 5 or more builders. I might get the first one done if I have just 1 builder.
  8. Hi Paulsian - these are good questions. The welcome center is for adults only who see the metaverse as opportunity to work in a professional environment. Imagine your day job in a corporate environment except it is on the metaverse. We need avatars that look professional and offices what fit a corporate setting. Feel free to IM me if you think this work may be of interest. Thank you.
  9. Thank you blissfulbreeze. I started at Builder's Brewery and they suggested I post here. I truly appreciate the time you took to respond to my request for help.
  10. 5 seemed like the right number given that many people have a limited amount of time available. How many hours a week would have available for a building project?
  11. I need 5 builders to help me build an avatar welcome center. I know most builders do it for fun and it can be hard to find people who want to build as a job. However, there may be some who would like extra linden. Anyone know how to find builders who may be interested in this work opportunity?
