Check this discussion out, and if this describes what you are experiencing there are some fixes/workaround discussed. Early on, viewers made it to a solid black background, then eventually did exactly what you mention. Start at the beginning, and work forward from there to the Jira if it sounds similar.

The term "previous version" really means nothing at all without these numbers and viewer names.I was loading the current version. Somehow the Geek Squad tech support got a previous version of FS to load and the screen appeared but it would not launch of course, out of date. Removed that one. Loaded the current version of both SL and FS viewers, same result, but would not even launch to the sign in page.

When I try to launch either the Second Life or the Firestorm viewer it says detecting hardware, initializing, but then the screen does not load and the icon disappears and reverts back to my desktop. I have done a clean install several times. I have reset my computer. I have had tech support working remotely. I tried installing a previous version in order to upgrade, all to no avail. The previous version says that it is expired and then I cannot get the newest to load and launch. It was running fine on Wednesday, Nov 11, but would not work at all for the last two days. I've never had this happen and everything else on my computer seems to be running smoothly. The computer tech support could not offer a resolution or a reason either. I cannot get any help from Firestorm support because evidently I have to be in world to do so. Any help or advice is appreciated.

I still have a black screen, cannot even see the log in. It loads but nothing.

Yeah, is odd, I hope it is SL. and not something else. Both the Firestorm and SL viewer are like that. I had Microsoft support do a remote check. I did a clean install as well since I checked the grid status first and saw no other similar issues being reported. Been over four hours for me now.

I can't even see to log in....the whole screen loads black. I can move the mouse around and see where I am supposed to type but it doesn't allow me to nor the pw. There are no graphics. nothing. I never see a progress bar at all. That is what I meant by never experiencing this before.

I was just hoping for someone to say that they too, saw a black screen. LOL. From what I gather, there are degrees of issues?

Geez, why did I even bother to try and get a serious response. I was only curious if people were seeing the same thing I was, which is nothing. I've never had this happen before, trouble logging in yes, but never just a black screen without any graphics. Pardon my curiosity/concern.

I can't even see the graphics to log in, just a big black page. Is that what you guys see?

Is anyone else experiencing log in issues? I get a black page no matter which viewer I try to use.

64 bit Viewers black background vs 32 bit work great

I had the same thing happen in June. I dropped to 32 and ran fine. After using it for a week or so, I attempted 64 again and was okay. This situation is odd in that this time the screen doesn't even load at all. After "initializing" it appears to go back to the icon on the desktop. And what I find odd is that the SL viewer does the exact same thing.
