The "ultimate authority" of any land use restrictions for a region is its "Covenant" which you can access thusly:

Most of Mainland will have no covenant at all, which gives the ability to do everything you mentioned. In contrast, the Linden Homes regions (including the popular "Bellisseria" regions) have very elaborate covenants which make parcels on those regions unsuitable for your purposes.

Both Mainland and Linden Homes can only be purchased by Premium subscribers, and monthly land fees ("tier") are paid directly to Linden Lab. Alternatively, there are many privately owned "Estate" regions where you could "buy" land in parcels or entire regions and pay monthly fees to the Estate owner. Those will come with covenants you'll need to read carefully to determine what is and isn't allowed.

At the most extreme, you can become an Estate owner yourself, buying entire regions directly from the Lab and, again, paying monthly fees directly to the Lab. This offers the most flexibility of all—you get to define your own covenant, terraform without limit, define your own terrain textures, etc., at the unit size of entire regions.

well i was about to buy some land once and there wasnt anything written in the covenant at all, would that mean i could do anything i wanted to the land?

  2. I had an question about Land im wondering, if i want to buy land, which has fullrights? as in people are able to live there w rent/ have stores etc. What would that type of land be called, english isnt my first language, but i hope you understand, someone said thats called full region?

But how would you know you are able to rent houses there/terraform, and basically make it your own how could you tell, and also where can i look for land like this? if you have an link or maybe inworld? Thankyou.

  3. Anything for ios? and the iphone? coming out? maybe something simple as just to check your inworld messages? would have been pretty neat, something maybe created by linden labs directly.

Same way you would make one for anything else, you just write it out. In a notecard, on a website, etc, anywhere you can have it written out for them to read.

Ok so make an notecard tell that its, non refundable in your tos and make a demo?  aka create an demo version of the item.

Make an Demo of the item hand it to your customer,

They dont like it, Put it on the marketplace?

    Kapiche?

For significant sums (50+ USD), I would use PayPal invoices. That way you have proper channels for handling payment/refunds/disputes. They're gonna have a heck of a hard time pulling the "it was fraud" card when payment was done through an invoice.

paypal is just an hassle in itself, what would you even name the paypal goods your doing?? i feel like since Paypal doesn´t have anything to do with Secondlife besides cashing out, i dont think your able to use it with things like invoices, id rather want to do everything the right way (in SL) if that makes sense.

    I feel like you're making this hypothetical situation a much bigger deal than it really is. ^_^;;

It really doesn't matter if you're new or old. If you create demos of your products for customers to receive and inspect before paying for the complete item, that's really all you need lol. If someone turns around and claims it's fraud and wants their money back, just... tell them no? I'm sure there are people like that in SL but not to the extent where you should be afraid of starting. Have a Terms of Service for your commissions (even digital artists have one!) and in it, state payments are non-refundable once they've seen/received and approved of the demo or however you want to do it. That's literally all you need, and if anyone makes a fuss just quote your own TOS.

Absolutely! If they're going to charge RL currency, this is the best way to do it.

How do i make an TOS? for secondlife items?

Tipjars are usually used in places where there is an employer (like a club owner) an employee (like a dancer, host or DJ) and a client (person who goes to the club). If there are 3 people or groups interested in a transaction, then tipjars make sense and can do different good things depending on how they're scripted. If there are only two people or groups involved, you do not need a tipjar.

Oh ok, Okay well lets say its an job between you and me for example maybe you saw my items inworld and liked them you would like me to make you can custom mesh or/ skin for example. We agree on the price in chat, and then you send me the LS directly? what would happen if you might not like the job. and for example want an refund?

  8. 17 hours ago, LilNosferatu said:

As someone else suggested, you could always take half the payment upfront, then the other half after they receive the item! This is a pretty common practice for art commissions.

You could also create a demo version of the item (slap a giant tag on the back, or make big floating text over the avatar saying "DEMO") and give that to them before accepting the final payment. That way they can see if they like the item or not, but they can't really run off with it unless they wanna look stupid. xD Then when they send their payment, you send the real product, and boom! There we go. Non-refundable. They can't scam you, you can't scam them, it protects you both!

In the event that you give someone a demo version of their item and they decide not to pay for it? That's okay too! You can put the item up for sale on the marketplace for anyone to buy, or hang onto it in case another client comes along wanting something similar, or just have it around for your portfolio as an example of something you can make. :)

Thankyou so much this explained it great, yes i know i had an person hit me up inworld and not here from the forums thats why i was wondering well i suppose its the same if their from the forums or not

Just post as "Mesher looking for commission" for the topic and as for you info you can add samples of your previous work. You can also mention what kind of meshing it is, as in for clothing, or is it for objects. For your payment like Sam said, ask direct Ls. Don't use tip jars, this is not hosting or DJ'ng. You're using your skills, hard work and time for this, so tip jars payment should be out of the question.

Lastly, you can add your contact info, inworld, discord or email. Well email is optional, people prefer inworld or discord more. And as for the samples, if you put some pictures or a mp link, or even a flickr for your previous work [portfolio], if people like what you doing [can be objects or clothing or anything else], they'll contact you directly.

That sounds great, but alot of people now days want to get an mesh job for clothing for example done, just to regret it and ask for money back? What can you do in situations like this. To not look like you are scamming people, lets say they saw my ad contacted me inworld payed first and got their mesh/ jewelry made, what if they dont like it regret it etc? What if someone wants their money back for example theres alot of ways this can play out and im just making sure i know everything, what would i have to do then? Or how can i go by this?

However you and the person who employed you want to do it. There is no right way. Why not just a direct payment of Lindens to you? I don't get why they are using a tipjar for things like this but as long as you get the L's then I don't see an issue with it.

Okay great well what if the meshing is for clothing or jewelery for example, maybe they sent the Ls but then regret it and for some later are trying to issue an refund? Or maybe they put it up as fraud? What can somebody new like me do about this?

If this person was another resident, most likely they didn't answer or tell you what was wrong, because nothing was - they were making it up.  Contacting LL about it would not provide you any answer in that situation other than that some residents like to bother other residents, and if someone is bothering you, use the tools that LL has provided in the viewer for such situations, which is to block them.

If you're worried that you might be doing something that could get you in trouble with LL, then you might want to re-read through the Terms and Conditions that you have to agree to when you created your account.  You can find a link to them at the very bottom of this web page, in blue letters "SL Terms and Conditions".   As long as you know the types of things that could get you in trouble with LL goverance, and you know that you are not doing those types of things, then you have nothing to worry about when some other resident threatens you about reporting you or that you're "going to be kicked off the grid".

thankyou appreciate it yes i was just shocked i was like??

If the harassment behavior continues - for example, if you believe the person is creating alts to continue harassing you after you have blocked them, then the best course of action for notifiying LL would be filing an AR (abuse report) that outlines the harrassment, and then filing a new AR (referencing the others) for subsequent harassment actions, so that LL can see a pattern of harrassment occurring.

If it was just this one single incident, and blocking the account takes care of it, I don't know that there's much sense in reporting it - it would probably be viewed as a resident-to-resident dispute, which LL doesn't usually concern themselves with.    Any text or message about trying to get you off the grid - unless it comes directly from Linden Lab - can be ignored.  Someone was just trying to get you upset.

Yes i know they where but it gets you wondering thats why i wanted to call cause the person wont answer me or tell me whats wrong thats why i blocked them.

  13. Hey i got an weird text today about someone feening to get me off the grid, im wondering, what the problem was?

and the person didnt tell me the problem at all but continued to harass me so i just blocked them, i would like to call linden labs and tell them what happened exactly i need to call from Europe so im wondering what number i i need to call.

suggest that you start small. Buy some mainland up to some affordable tier size that won't break you if the land never rents

then use to your little land to learn how to set up and operate rental boxes, parcel controls and tenant group abilities. Create alt accounts of your own to act as your tenants til you understand how the mechanics of all this works, from both a landlord and tenant pov

once you have all the mechanics worked out then can start thinking about if this is really what you want to do

thankyou where can i find this mainland yeah its better for me to start small since its my first time

You have to have your plan completely worked out before you even buy or lease the sim.
If you think that you can all do that when you have the sim, the USD 399 starts ticking the moment you purchase / lease a sim.

Another tip: don't calculate on a basis that every home is rented out all the time.
Almost every sim that leases out houses or parcels has a percentage of vacancies all the time.

Look around, look around and look around a bit more on all those sims out there that already offer this kind of service.
How do they collect the rent? How did they split up the sim, How do they advertise it and where other than a sign on the land (or best IMHO, without a sign on the land)

I always had simular plans in the years when I first started in SL. I never had the guts to make it reality.
My final conclusion after years of investigating (with the idea on a back burner on and off):  Too much financial risk and too much time involved on daily basis, to do it right.

This can't be done as a weekend hobby. Tenants want answers and solutions when (or very soon after) the problem occurs or most of them will walk pretty soon.

yes thats right especially if im having tentants living there i just dont know where to start, i guess i wouldnt buy an sim for 399$ a week but id start somewhere small since its my first time buying a sim.

If you are going to run a sim with rentals and spend the money to get your own sim then you need to do some research on your own. No one is going to walk you though this whole process for you. Running rental units can be super hard.  People can answer specific questions but they are not going to do the work  for you.  Go visit some rental properties. Read the forums.  Goggle how to set up a rental system in second life.

    thankyou
