I have seen group names  with leading space and the effect is to show up at the top of your groups.

Pretty cunning because it ends up always "in your face".

If Linden is making the changes across the board, then it seems fair to me.

I'm afraid you missed both the point and the question here.

It could had been fair if no one could do it (I agree with you on that, SaiJinhua, and I told them - In fact, I told them to also remove all characters besides latin letters and numbers) or if trully everybody could do it. If everyone can do it and some indeed do it, except 1, then that's simply something worse than unfair...

Most of us have seen such groups. The question here is: Have you ever seen any of them being changed??

Right now, all similar groups I know of, both older and newer than mine (the last one is some days old) are still untouched. If the procedure is indeed buggy, as Whirly Fizzle suggested, the least they could do is turning my group's name back as how it was when I paid to create it (we all know it's possible for them), and when the bug would had been fixed, the (alleged automatic) procedure would re-remove it. They didn't even have the courtesy to do that.

  2. I'm not reading the forum as often as I'd like to, but I was notified my group was mentioned here.

steph Arnott is right. The issue, from its technical aspect, is minor. That is why I prioritized it as minor on that jira ticket. But the case still remains mysterious, if not weird. ChinRey only expressed what many members of that group ask(ed) openly or privately: Was our group the only one changed? And if yes, why?

According to Caleb Linden, there is a procedure which strips those leading spaces. According to Whirly Fizzle, this procedure is buggy. According to this thread and numerous other experienced active residents, no one can indicate a similar group which is changed, besides mine, several weeks after the change was happened. Conclusion: This new procedure picked my group first, "fixed" it, and then stopped working.

I'm sure the fact our group was created as an in-world public forum for Project Sansar and also the fact LL seems to be a bit nervous, lately, about the kind of publicity their new baby receive, is just a coincidence.

To avoid misunderstanding: I'm not talking sarcastic. I do believe the change wasn't really made manually. Our community is not oriented against LL practices, after all. On the contrary, we are all Sansar enthusiasts whom only goal is sharing news about it and talking about how it can be a great next generation platform.

However, to some members, what seemed to be a selective treatment was taken as some kind of an intimidating warning for us to be very careful of what and how we discuss our topic, thus conversations dramatically decreased.

So the real issue here is not LL to change the group name back, but for us to have an example of equal treatment which I could use to prove the silliness of the conspiracy theories and thus to restore group's functionality.

Unfortunately, when I asked for such thing from Support, the official answer was that providing a publicly available information, such as a group's name, would become "an issue of a privacy concern"(!). (the full dialogue with Derrick Linden, Support Supervisor, is going to be available to any of our members, as he allowed me to copy-paste it at will, but I won't paste it here, on forum)

I'm not sure if ChinRey wanted to help the community by taking the initiative to search for that 1 example or she was simply curious (if first is true, I thank her), but I do know she doesn't believe on such speculations either.

PS. Creating a new group with a leading space is still possible for anyone.

  3. So, practically, it does absolutely nothing more (or different) than what the permalink does. What's the point then?

Visually, I still can not see any difference no matter how closely I look. ( I use Linux. Is it a Windows thing? ). Besides, if you need to look really really close, as you said, to recognize a highlighted post, then how that can be called "highlight"? You are right saying it is obscure. It is so obscure, it loses the point.

I still believe this button can be eliminated without someone missing it. However, this is not jira for me to make suggestions. I asked a question, you answered and a Linden verified. That's more than enough for me to accept it as solution and thank you.

I also gave you kudos for your thing → https://userstyles.org/styles/44855/community-secondlife-com-blue-goo-theme
It is actually so nice that -for that alone- makes me happy for starting this issue :-)

  4. First of all, Freya, when you suggest a solution, it should be visible as a separate answer or else the original poster can not select it as a solution (there is no "accept as solution" button here). Maybe you should move it where it deserves.

Second, I'm not sure what you're saying is related to the highlight feature.Sure it looks like so, but try also to do the same with a non highlighted post... I think what you described happens because you're using the link of the post (so browser trying to show you the target) either is highlighted or not.

  5. Which one of two is true? You and I can not know. Sometimes -and this is actually one of those times- only Lindens can answer a question. Do Lindens ever answer questions? (on this section I mean, not on forum) Have you ever seen that?

  6. Each section has its own needs as each section serves a different purpose. I can't see a problem in those examples you mentioned. In the case of the Highlight button, however, they should make it work or invisible.

  7. Someone, days ago, said Sansar should have 1st person look as a default. Assuming he/she didn't mean to restrict the platform to that mode only, I agree. Sansar is being created to be more immersive and Superman-look-through-walls just isn't realistic. Even using Oculus with visible interface on screen, while it will be possible for practical reasons, it won't make much sense in the direction of immersivity. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm NOT saying 1st person look should be the only look mode, but I can see when 1st-person-only mode or not being able see through walls could be useful besides privacy (better game experience with games such as those with mazes, haunted houses, solve-the-murder-case etc), but I believe adjusting camera to the content is something now can automatically be done with the Experience feature anyway. As for privacy, Jo Yardley already described perfectly a. WHY someone can not have privacy while on a foreign land and b. HOW can someone have real privacy on owned land. Most (not all) of the other comments were just attacks to someone having a different opinion by bullying with useless sarcasm. Is this the kind of forum we want?

Found it! Pls continue making useful suggestions.

That was a very useful post. Not.

I suppose security is an important part of the answer to why we don't have hypergrid access

I was talking about hypergrid between Sansar and SL exclusively.

What kind of security issues might be between 2 platforms of the very same company?

Now, that is perhaps the most important question still unanswered: who is Sansar for? Is it for the high end gaming computer crowd or is it supposed to be the platform for the "
10s and 100s of millions of people.
    "?

I heard in SL12B Auditorium it will not be for all. Not for Linux users anyway, regardless of how powerful their computer is. Regardless of how creative are or how much they contribute. No linux version official Sansar viewer... no third party viewers... worst of all: no hypergriding! I guess my questions to Lindens are:

    1. Will it be really absolute -no way- for a Linux user to enter Sansar?? Not even a work around? (Someone mentioned a program called WINE, but I'm not sure if that could be a solution). If Sansar is going to be -that- ambitious (100s of millions) then you're realising you're excluding millions of people.
    2. Why can't you let volunteer or short-term paid linux devs help you in creating a linux version official Sansar viewer (or official based) from early on? Most of TPV devs are trusted people I believe. Isn't it possible for a client to be closed source and still being able to run on an open source OS? (Sorry if my questions seems naive or something, I'm not a programmer). A Sansar Linux Viewer could be at the same status as the SL Linux Viewer. No maintenance = no LL resources spent! Right?
    3. Why not hypegriding? This is actually a question I heard by a lot of people, not just linux users. Don't you, people at LL, think the hypergriding ability is essential in helping Sansar to be populated?

Thank you in advance. I've read really great questions from people before me and some informative answers already.

  10. After April 24th, I was going to suggest a place dedicated to linux (and/or open source in general) as a tribute to Linux Community and as a reminder of Oz Linden's invitation for help. Unfortunately SLLUG's parcel in Maryport is small for a meeting like this and ama gi region seems to be (almost) deserted nowadays... :matte-motes-frown:

Well... Basilique is a nice and popular choice and I'm looking forward to meet you there.

I do, however, have a general suggestion: Maybe next time you could give us some guidelines as to how an ideal meeting point should be. I noticed not all suggestions were following modemworld's advices and also a confusion about whether we should be the owners of the place we suggest or not.
