  1. I have come and gone over the years in SL and know how you feel. The last time I stopped I cancelled my account and wiped out everything on purpose. I already knew from the past I would return after a break (I always do). So, this time when I returned I started fresh not a newbie in experience just looks it gave me some of the old feel of rediscovering SL. Not sure if that helps, but when I returned this time even without my inventory and old AV it was a bit more like the first time. The need to rebuild my SL life over again from the ground up also gave me insight into new things in SL and new ways to build and explore. So unless you have a big inventory you want to keep, or a reason to hang on to the old you dump it and start over when your ready. The only thing that concerns me now about SL is the direction it is going, hopefully it will not change from being a social experience with game options to a sorry to say place where the more shady side of life lives and grows. The search option use to be a place to find in world events and land for sale. Now it looks like something out of a porn magazine with all the ads. for phone sex and stuff. LL created an adult area for that and it seems to have spilled out into most of all SL these days unchecked. But whatever you do best of luck to you.
  2. Without more information it is hard to say for sure, but you state that your other avatars can log in OK so you can rule out a hardware problem, or viewer problem. Have you tried logging in with this avatar, but changing the last location to some place else it may-be that the avatar was last logged off at a location that is no longer there, or for some reason invalid. Would be helpful if you received a message when the avatar crashed to post it here will help in finding out problem.
  3. Welcome to SL. You did not say what viewer you were trying, or what graphics card you have(the accrual model#). Even thou your OS(MS-XP) is old it can still use SL with little trouble. I would suggest a third party viewer to use given the possible graphics card and memory being low. Here is a link to other viewers that will fit your need better. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory I would suggest Imprudence, or Singularity as both are less demanding on your PC. You may even try Marine Kelly's Restrained Love (RLV) viewer which is based on the Second Life viewer, be sure to turn off the RLV option. Firestorm and others are much to demanding on your PC as is the current SL viewer. Good Luck....
  4. Just to clear up my post. I canceled the bug report as a clean install of viewer stopped the overrun of CPU. I know that SLPlugins have multiple runs, but until new viewer never tried taking over CPU. As to other issues for high CPU usage those were stopped a long time ago before phoenix or any other viewer my PC was trained to handle them. My post was directed at the high CPU usages of the new viewer which were cleared up by my doing a clean install into another directory. As to the new viewer itself, well as it is not mandatory update I have rolled back to old version, do not need useless eye-candy distracting from my SL experience.
  5. Well I had it and dumped it while I used it all I was able to see was eye-candy for a small percentage of the SL population. At present it is not a mandatory update so I rolled back to prior version. I found NO value in this new viewer. Here is something for the Lindens to think about as they now bill themselves as a commercial service provider. I as a paid member, a yearly paid member who also pays high tier fees as well. Would much rather see something that enhances my Second Life, not distracted from it as this viewer does. You know what they say, "When the Customer is not Happy they start to look elsewhere". When they look elsewhere so does their few hundred every month in fees and those who are also family members who pay high fees as well looking elsewhere. Best to keep your customer base in mind that helps pay those bills. This viewer in my opinion should be scrapped as it distracts from the overall Second Life experience, and Yes I am a longgg term resident.
  6. Not to sure about new chat features, but can adjust. One thing they need to fix on the double is this bug that came with the new chat version where SLPlugin loads multiple times forcing your PC to run well over 70 some % CPU usage. I have reported it in bug reports and wish I had kept the older version prior to this so I can reload it. Will not make that mistake again. Also, be careful if you kill some of those SLPlugins to lower you overrun on CPU can expect strange results. Till it's fix may be forced to seek 3rd party viewer. Don't tell me that is normal it is not and no one program should be using that high a percent of CPU.
