  1. Hi Jeanette. I stopped checking the blog when my problem eventually did get resolved, It was the ISP, just as I had narrowed it down to. I had to keep pushing and pushing until they sent out their top guns - a team of 6 techs came to my house and worked half a day. They re-wired my connection from where it leaves the street until it touches the back of my computer. They changed the router to a more powerful Cisco system, and changed the encryption to AES. Voilla. I was back in business. But I still had frequent crashes/lockups from my NVidia card that stopped whenever i took the card out and used the original on-board video. But I was also persistent with the retailer and Zotac and eventually - it was a very LONG story - they sent me a new card and the retailer installed it with new drivers and crashes are down to maybe once a week. I can live with that. Good luck.
  2. I still can't move around in SL and this problem seems to have everyone stumped. No one has come up with any new ideas I haven't already tried. I'm desperate. Anyone? Update: Thanks Luc, but I already tried that. There is no packet loss, and my speed test showed downloads of of about 16 mbps and uploads of 1.26. The temperature checks showed the core temps are in range. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks for your suggstions, but...I have already tried using a hard wire to connect directly to the Internet, bypassing both the router and the wireless modem. And I have strong security WEP encryption and a strong password, so I don't think I have a pervy neighbor surfing child porn on my connection. The problem has to be elsewhere. I have also already tried using an alt, and the problem happens with that alt too. It also hapepns when I log into SL from someone else's computer, so it's probably not my hardware or my graphics driver. And I have tried using an old Phoenix, Firestorm beta, Firestorm Mesh, and V2 and V3, so I don't think it's a problem with Firestorm Mesh. I know, I know. Everyone seems to be stumped by this one. As you can see from the list below, I have tried lots of solutions. I don't know what else to try. But someone out there will suggest something new, right? Symptoms: [*] Constant crashes -- I can stay inworld for a max of a few minutes in busy sims. SL crashes quickly whenever there are more than a small handful of avatars nearby. [* ] I can remain inworld awhile as long as the avie does not walk or TP from "home" (the entry/landing spot upon log-in.) [*] TP-ing to busy sims causes the avatar to (1) freeze - not move at all; or (2) turn but will NOT walk straight ahead or back, sideways or fly ; or (3) will walk for awhile in quiet sims but even then, after walking short distances, the avie will keep on walking (walking motion in place) until the program eventually crashes and offers the IM-Chat only option My system specs: HP Pavillion p6120f 64 bit purchased Jul-2009 Intel G33-G31 express chipset 8 MB RAM, Pentium dual core E 6300 @ 2.80 Ghz Just installed a NVIDEA Zotak GT440 Video card at recommendation of Secondlife Viewer support group Windows 7 Home premium with all recent updates Realtek RTL8168C Gigabit Ethernet NIC 684 Gigabit HD 391GB used, 293GB free NTFS Was NOT able to successfully do a system restore to go back 2 weeks in time when I didn't have these problems. (restore attempt failed for unknown reasons) Windows Firewall installed AVG Antivirus All Internet connections are set to recommended levels Network Access Protection Agent is not in use Viewer Software (Firestorm Mesh) Status: FPS jumps between about 26 to 60 Bandwidth use fluctuating widely from low of 20 to 150, mostly hovering around the 60's - 80's packet loss 0% and time dilation is .962 Ping 95 Ktris Draw 209 /fr and averaging about 13,000 f/sec 2311 objects Texture count 1520 Note: The secondlife forum tells me the settings above are all good What I have tried so far: Cleared the caches several times Tried logging in to the game from someone else's computer and the same problems occurred, which makes me think it is not something on my computer that's causing it. I have tried logging into the game using a hardwired connection to the Internet but the same problem occurs. That's why I am pretty sure my ISP is correct that it is not the router or the mod Downloaded a program to assess core temperatures but my system is not running hot. Tried using different viewers (Phoenix and V3) - same problems Tried using an alt - no improvement Tried stripping down - I did a character test which basically took my avie back down to default to eliminate my avie's clothing inventory as the problem Had my ISP change the frequency broadcast of my new and faster wireless router Reset the brand new faster modem that now runs at up to 56 mbs (note that my other Internet activites work fine) Added a larger antenna for the PC to get a stronger signal to the wireless adapter (always have at least 3 out of 5 bars of signal strength, usually 4 bars, often all 5) Bought and installed a new 1 MB graphics card that SL experts say is "up to the job" (Zotak GT440) Changed multiple settings and preferences as recommended by Ph/FS Viewer Support group members, including: Lowered the draw distance Lowered render quality to lowest setting set max bandwidth to 500 KBs and reset cache size to 512 Lowered the texture memory from 1024 to 512 MB Did a clean uninstall of all viewers, reinstalled Firestorm Mesh beta I ran a diagnostic test and there was no problem found with RAM Tried using a lower version of the NVidia card driver but it wouldn't install (it said the hardware wasn't compatible)
  3. Hi, Thanks for replying. Yes, I have tried it using a hardwired connection to the Internet but the same probelm occurs. That's why I am pretty sure my ISP is correct that it is not the router or the modem. I also tried logging in at a friend's house using HER computer, and I had the exact same problem there. If it was a firewall problem, I don't understand why the firewall would suddenly be a problem two weeks ago when I have been running SL on the same system with the same firewall for 9 months, and why my friend's firewall would cause the exact same behavior. I will try disabling it, but I don't think that's the problem. I could try posting this same issue on the "Answers" section, but people always told me not what its considered rude to post the same problem more than once in a web forum. I thought it might be a problem with my avatar, the walk AO, or the inventory, but the problem also exists when I went back and tried to use my old "original" primitive avatar that I created for the first 5 days I was in SL and havent used in awhile.
  4. Ok, in desperation, I just did a clean uninstall and reinstall, but the problems remain. Tried to check the "bridge" but it only helped me stand still at my home. Also cleared cache again and did an avie test and took the avie down to basic Ruth. But as soon as I tried to TP anywhere or try to walk into a busy sim, my avie would either freeze in place (not move forward or back but could turn) - or - it would walk and keep on walking until the program crashed. I called tech support for my ISP and they reset my modem & router to operate on a different frequency to prevent any signal drops but even though I am showing 4 of 5 bars of signal strength, it still crashes the same way. The same thing happens in Firestorm and Phoenix so its probably not the viewer. Until this gets fixed, I am essentially locked out of SL Please help.
  5. No, I didn't uninstall totally. I just re-installed it. But when I log in with Phoenix or with Firestorm, the same things happen. In fact, I crashed worse in Phoenix. What are the odds that it's the viewer if EVERY viewer does the same thing?
  6. I'm crashing every few minutes lately and can't stay inworld long enough to try any live groups. It's been getting progressively worse. Last night and the night before were so bad I finally gave up after at least 6 - 12 crashes or so. Sometimes I don't know I've crashed until I try to move or tp or click a dance animation ball. I can type IMs but of course I'm disconnected so they don't go anywhere. After a while I get the usual message saying I've been disconnected and do I want to view chat/IM or quit. My computer is two years old. It it’s a fast processor, 8GB Ram but a standard on-chip video driver so I know I could probably do better with a separate and faster video card. But SL has worked well for 10 months with the hardware, so it's unlikely it's that. I've cleared caches and even reinstalled V3. But I get the same crashes if I log in with Firestorm. However, if I log into Firestorm with a different avatar account, things work normally (just the occasional crash). So, my concern is that my inventory is somehow corrupted. If it's my inventory, I'll be totally pissed because I don't want to lose more than a hundred different clothing outfits and more than 10,000 total items (objects, clothing, skins, landmarks, etc. etc.) I have a couple thousand linden dollars worth of crap I don't want to have to dump and buy again. If it's corrupted, there must be a way to diagnose and repair it, right? It is also possible it might have something to do with my ISP. They upgraded the line this week and provided a new and faster modem (up to 54 megabits/sec.) that included a brand new modem and wireless router. Again, the computer and ISP seem to work okay when I log in with the other account, so I keep coming back to my inventory as a culprit. Out of the last 12 crashes, upon logging back in, I have gotten error messages saying it could not locate certain items (clothing, skins) etc. But then I see my avatar wearing some of them. So…? I am still crashing all the time and out of ideas about what to try next. I'd appreciate any help.
