  1. What's the best way for a scrpt to check and see if there's a newer version of itself? I want to distribute a free product which offers a free service to its users. However, I am hoping to support it later with advertisements. I need the product to check for updates to it's main script from time to time so that when I start using ads, the older models of the product will be updated as well as the new ones.
  2. I've been tinkering all night with the Linux version of Second Life. It wouldn't allow me to play on 64 bit Linux. I installed the 32 bit libraries and it wouldn't run. I then installed a 32 bit version of Linux in virtualbox and secondlife ran. The program was just larger than the screen. Next, I tried dualbooting a 32 bit linux installation. After installing it I tried to run secondlife and got this : jesse@Forget:~/SecondLife-i686-3.4.4.268864$ ./secondlife Running from /home/jesse/SecondLife-i686-3.4.4.268864 - Installing menu entries error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details. The program 'do-not-directly-run-secondlife-bin' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 30 error_code 11 request_code 154 minor_code 3) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) *** Bad shutdown ($LL_RUN_ERR). *** ******************************************************* This is a BETA release of the Second Life linux client. 3. Hey guys, I can't seem to get SL running on the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 12.04. Whenever I click on the icon, nothing happens :(. Anyone have any suggestions?
  4. I would like to start a new game. Each user will be given a comm device which will communicate with the nearest central comm hub (near or far, just whatever is closest). The hubs are going to be copiable by other land owners who are interested in the game. The problem I have is, I don't know how to find the nearest compatible device.
  5. Every time I design something, the item is automatically setup to give a certain group permissions to the object. What's worse is, when I turn it off, it still gives them permission. How do I disable this VERY ANNOYING auto permissions thing.
  6. I just finished a project which had 2 prims. The entire time, I was able to see the script (even when I linked the prims) now that I've started a new project, I am unable to see the script when I link the prims. How can I tell the object to show the script even when the prims are linked?
  7. What do I need to look into to place a web browser on 1 side of my prim?
  8. What do I need to look into to place a web browser on 1 side of my prim?
  9. Thanks fo the advice. I am just doing the 30 days thing to allow myself to expirience programming in LSL. It's all fun and games (game) for me. :-) I just lowered the price of my furniture, but now, I think I'm going to keep it as it was. I had it that way because I expressed myself in it. Again, thanks for the advice. Always better to lose a little business than to sell it short.
  10. Know any blogs in particular which would review a pager/doorbell? I've added it to my line of products. It's a freely copyable so the user can make as many as they want. It's also turns colors when the the patron clicks it to page you. Red if you're not online and green if you are, but it remains gray until then for privacy. This is just version 2 though. I plan on putting a ton of things in V3, but I would really love if someone could review it on their blog.
  11. How do I get a UUID of a prim that's able to be copied (meaning multiple people have multiple copies of the object) The object is 2 prims.
  12. Thanks. I just hate it when I don't have the correct terminology to search with. :-( Figured Google would make it easier.
  13. Finished product: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Pager/2671348 It's also FREE to the first 3 people who want to test it. The problem with needing to own your own land is fixed. It can be used on land which you don't own also. It's copiable (meaning you can use it in multiple locations) but non-transferable (You can't give copies away.)
  14. How do I get the online status of the owner of a prim? I've tried llGetStatus combined with llGetOwner. It was no help. Do I need to get the owner's key, or is there a better way?
  15. Wrote a paging device. Need testers who own their own land. It only works on land you or the owner of the device owns. Since I do not have land, I need someone to test it out for me and tell me what they think. Thanks in advanced.
  16. Thanks so much. I just started diving into LSL. Unfortunately Google isn't turning up very many results with the parameters I'm entering :-(
  17. How would I go about creating a time delay in LSL? Links would also be appriciated. I like learning from my questions and not just stealing scripts. Basically, I want the object to change colors and then go back to default after a few seconds.
  18. Working on that one. My next one is quite nice (if I may say so myself). It even has a script included. Thanks for the advice though. I'm going on a one product per day for the next 30 days. When I reach 30 products I'll give it a rest for a while.
  19. If I have an object for sale in world for 100 Lindons and then price it in the marketplace for 10, will the customer in the marketplace get it for 10 or 100?
  20. Basically asking how to sell. If there are public places where I can display my items for little to nothing. Once people get to know my products, they will know my business, and thus my sales will go up.
