If I remember correctly, people already said "SL is dying!" back then in Feb 2008, when I joined.

So... IF SL were really dying, it must be a real slooooooooooow death.

I wonder if there could be a way to turn it as a theme song? "SL is dying, lalalala... since 2003, lalalala..."

This might be semantics(well, to some) but you just negated your own statement here.

A feature *not* utilized by 99% of the users(that's a random made up number here since I don't think anyone outside of LL knows the actual use of the feeds, lol), regardless of it's availability, is not going to be prioritized over a feature available to the same number, but utilized by a larger number. Make sense? I can put it a different way....if the front door on my building is used by 75% of my guests, and the side door is used by 25% of my guests, but both doors are available to anyone at any time...and both doors break..which one will I fix first? It won't be the side door, which is more convenient for people that like to use that one, it will be the door *used* the most..regardless of the fact that anyone can use any door. If the numbers were reversed, it would be the side door..still the door used the most.

LL has said they're working on it though, and I'm sure they are. :)

If the side door stops to work for all users, wouldn't you ask for it to be fixed? I made no mention about a front door because I know no comparable SL feature to the Feed so I don't think there's anything else that can have a comparable priority... or were you refering to the bug reports about the other features on SL profiles (friendlist broken, profile picture not updating, etc...)?

"LL has said they're working on it though" Yes but it's not the question.

I've an analogy for you too :

    "-Hello, what time is it?

-We're working on it, please be patient."

    :)

  3. I discovered SL Feed 4 years ago, accidentally when I was updating my profile and then... oh? what's that? a Feed?...

Since then, I liked to use. I liked to be able to snapshot ingame and to post 'outgame' and share my explorations, my online activities with every and any SLers. I liked that SL Feed had this "Instagram-for-SL" feeling. I've nothing against FB, Flickr, Instagram etc but SL Feed was specific and designed to and for SL.

Then there's the community. People on SL Feed are usually social because we all share one thing in common there and its name is Second Life, which is not an unanimous common field on other social medias. This is also what I liked about the Feed.

On the Feed, I didn't needed to look after SLers, like on other social medias. All of them were SLers.

I hope that nowadays, most people learnt that numbers are a wonderful tool to justify everything and very often anything. So...

While SL Feed might be used by less than 1% of users, on the other hand the Feed is a feature available to 100% of users. So I hope that LL will consider that a feature which doesn't work for 100% of SLers is a more important number that only less than 1% of users are actively using the Feed.

  4. I've seen too many nice mmos that closed after too many unresolved bugs turned the players away. and then there are games still active despite being bugged in every corner. What I was trying to point is that the context can make a huge difference.

In point of fact, buggy software is now the norm, the idea of constant mega broadband connections and 'auto-updates' means its common to ship out defective crap and just spend a year or three patching the hell out of it before selling the next major rewrite.

SL is stable as hell compared to may software products on the market these days.

I joined SL only in 2010 so I can't tell if it was a defective crap from the start.

Most of the "SL is dying" claims are based almost exclusivly on the fact that during the 2nd Wave Lastnamer influx, 20 odd million people all rushed in, mostly for the wrong reasons, ran around like mad things for a couple of years, then disappointed, rushed out again...

I can't speak for them but yes, it does sound like they're comparing numbers out of context.

And this doesn't mean I don't want more from SL or I don't have things to rant and complain about SL, lot of things I believe that could be done to make SL a lot more user-friendly.

There are so many bugs, SL is never stable. One day this works, next update/maintenance it doesn't work anymore. In another context, a product with such a high fail/bug rate would certainly had been shut down a long time ago.

  6. Hmmm... I don't see where SL is dying?

Sure, there are less people logging in daily in SL but does it really mean that SL is dying? Or does it mean that SL has reached its average userbase ratio?

I don't believe there are so many geeks, which is also why I don't believe Sansar will be more successful than SL. The few vids I saw about Sansar are terribly boring : bunch of geeks hanging out and doing... nothing.

I believe also that the loss of SL population is a lot more related to outside events (economy, social medias) rather than inside SL. So I don't see any form of death in it, but just a normal readjustment based from external factors.

  7. I used to use the SL Feed then I took a bug in the website.

There are rumors that this and rumors that that. For me, the most important part is not so to know what happened (this info is needed for the maintenance staff) but more to know it's been investigated and we know it is.

While I do understand that business is business and to invest to maintain a free feature (SL Feed) that is a cost-with-no-benefit is not a priority, I still disagree with the way LL is managing the Feed. Like it or not but FB is common nowadays and SL Feed could -should?- be better than a broken free feature put at the bottom list of priorities.

Lots of people like to take snapshots and we should not 'need' to post somewhere outside of SL.
