  1. A super belated thanks for all of the help, everyone! It's been an awful week but now I have all of this useful information to come back to! I'm going to check out the events and stores provided, and in the meantime maybe try not to be so old-fashioned. Back in my day, boys wore their pants all the way up and they liked it! Snow, uphill, both ways, etcetera, etcetera. If anyone happens to come across any amazing fuddy-duddy pants in the near future as well, please don't hesitate to send LMs my way in-world! ROAR. I WILL MAKE THIS THING HAPPEN!
  2. Good evening! First and foremost, much respect for every guy out there who has managed to put together a good-looking male avatar. I recently decided to give it a go and see what I could make on that side of the fence, and have decided that it must be one of the most difficult things I have ever tried to do. Everything feels so 5 years ago! Moving right along, I am at the point now where I am trying to build a diverse wardrobe for this guy and have identified one commonly seen oddity that I would like some help with. The vast majority of the pants and shorts I have tried on for this avatar are hanging considerably lower than they should be. http://puu.sh/ldrNU/9e38bf1121.png Initially, I thought this was due to my having picked up the Slink male body and it was some inconsistency between the hips on the system avatar and the hips on the mesh body. Then this month came along and I noticed several brand-new offerings with Slink sizes... and they are doing it too. Does anyone have some clue as to what the problem might be? If it were /all/ pants, I could understand that there is an incompatibility issue somewhere. Maybe 1 out of every 10 demos I try actually manage to sit where they are meant to be, so I think there's something very obvious going on here that I am just painfully ignorant toward. If anyone has any insight they would care to offer, I would certainly like to hear it! Dressing this guy has been a nightmare ongoing for far too long now.
  3. I have been interested in purchasing at least a couple of their petite kits since... wow. Late 2013? Something like that. Sadly, about two months before I learned of their store, it appears that the owners stopped logging in entirely. The last login for the creator was 09/02/2013, while her husband/manager person was last on 02/22/2014. This is bad news due to the fact that a Caspervend mandatory update needs to be processed on some of their vendor objects before purchases can be made again, meaning that a great deal of their store is no longer functioning (including the petite kits!) Somehow, the in-world store remains after all of this time with the proprietors away, although I'm not sure how or why since they can't be making much money with so much of the store broken at the moment. That aside, does anyone happen to know what is going on with those folks? Are they coming back at some point? If anyone has any information to provide, feel free to contact me in SL as well! I've been visiting the store and attempting to make my purchases (in vain~) at least twice a month for two years now, so it would be nice to hear that I am not entirely wasting my time! Thank you in advance!
  4. I tried that and got... something approaching results, I guess. I got the beach to look right but it also turned the entire southwest quadrant (where the beach is located) into a desolate, sandy mess. Maybe the terrain texture tools aren't precise enough for what I had in mind and I will have to fall back on one of those prim beaches after all.
  5. Good evening. I am trying to construct a little beach area on the homestead I just began renting. Being that I had no experience with terraforming prior to this, the whole thing has been an adventure but I think I am starting to learn maybe a fraction of the basics so far. I have managed to do the actual digging to a reasonable approximation of what I was hoping for and now I am trying to get the look right. I picked up some of the beach kits from the Marketplace but haven't really been happy with them. Too chunky, too clunky, and difficult to get to fit the way I want them to. While cruising around to different beach sims for ideas on how to get the sand part to work, I noticed that some sims have managed to pull it off where their lowest terrain texture only appears starting on the downward slope of their shoreline and all points lower than this (such as the seabed). This looks pretty great compared to what I was managing with the prim shoreline objects and would save on land impact as well, so I am wondering... how do I get it so that the first terrain texture (#1, which seems to be for the lowest of elevation) only appears at a certain elevation and lower on my homestead? The downward slope of the beach and the ocean floor are the lowest points on the homestead (other than the pool and the like, but those are covered by their own textures and it won't be visible there) so all I really need to do is figure out what exactly the beginning of the slope is elevation-wise and then find a way to tell SL 'HEY! Everything at this point and lower, use the sand texture thinger!'. Is there a quick and dirty explanation for how I go about doing this? I've tried playing with the numbers under the terrain texture settings and it just quickly becomes a mess all over the place.
  6. Good evening. This is probably a really silly question, but what is the best way to go about creating a cove sort of formation at a shoreline? Something like http://www.thecastleinn-lulworthcove.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/header-slides-lulworth-cove.jpg although much smaller in scale. I'm really beginner when it comes to this sort of thing and the best thing I can guess at right now is making a regular shoreline and then making clever use of prims to form the encircling 'arms' of the whole formation. I'm not even sure how I would do /that/ but it's about the only thing that comes to mind when I try to figure it out while standing here and staring at the water. Is there a better way?
  7. Good evening! I've been kind of curious about sim-building and management of land for awhile now, being that it is one of the few things I haven't at least dabbled with during my years in SL. I've also noticed lately that many of my in-world friends are homeless and kind of sad over not having a place of their own. So I was thinking that I might go and rent a homestead sim for myself, take some time to make it all pretty, put some housing out around the place, and then let all of my homeless people in to set home and make merry. Before I do this, I have some questions! 1) Are there generally any hidden fees when renting something like this? I've looked at a few and their monthly rental fee tends to all be at ~$125 a month, which is the same as the LL tier fee for a homestead. I've even seen some that dip lower, as low as ~$105 a month. If this money is barely enough to pay LL tier, and even less in some cases, I am wondering if there might be hidden fees under it all that I will have to pay on top of the rental fee. These people are in it to make money, so where do their profits come from if only charging the cost of tier? 2) Are there any good resources for a first-time landowner? A Building Sims for Dummies sort of thing! They seem to come with full estate manager and terraforming rights, so a crash course in the tools that I will have available to me would be super helpful. I can always puzzle it out if I have to. 3) Anyone else who has been down this road have any 'things I wish I had known before starting' tips to pass along?
  8. That was actually a super helpful post! Thank you very much~ I'm going to go and check this sim out as soon as I can get back online today.
  9. Hellu~ I've randomly become struck by the notion that I simply must put together a nice mermaid avatar. This notion has persisted for over a week now which tells me that I should probably heed it before it decides to start using rougher negotiating tactics. Unfortunately for me, I've never really kept up with fantasy trends and all of that sort of thing. I have, on the other hand, turned to the good Dr. Google for advice and have only managed to turn up results that are a little too outdated to take as gospel just yet (the most recent discussion was just shy of being two years old.) So here I am, hoping that those who keep abreast of fashiony-type information might have some recommendations for me. Before anything else, I am hoping to start with the tail. This seems like something that I would start with as a foundation for the rest of the look. I would like it to be a mesh tail and I'm not really concerned about costs. If the quality is good and its appearance pleasing to me, I'll gladly throw all sorts of money into the project to get this done with. So... do any of you fashionistas have a recommendation for me? A store to check out, a creator to talk to, a magical genie lamp to rub?
  10. Greetings. For the past near to a year now, I've maintained a small parcel of land on the mainland for use as a little retreat for myself. Unfortunately, I don't spend nearly as much time as I used to with my Second Life, and I'd really like to be done with the monthly fee for mainland ownership. I wish to stay premium however, so I'm not quite sure how to proceed here. How does one go about attempting to sell off their bit of land, so that I can revert to the standard premium membership without any additional land fees attached? Being that I had to purchase the parcel to begin with, I'd really rather not simply watch it default to LL now that I'm done with it. I'd appreciate any advice or tips on how to proceed from here so as to be done with this particular aspect of SL. Thank you in advance!
