Phil Deakins wrote:In AnnMarie's latest post, she says that Maestro Linden acknowledges that it is a bug
according to Annemarie previous posts the test she demoed to Maestro was the parcel object entry problem she been experiencing. guess that's changed into a http blocking test now

AnnMarie Otoole wrote:Thanks for all the EXPERT opinions but you don't have a clue what I'm talking about. .
you said linden blocked your http traffic. not everyone's traffic. yours. you gave no explanation for why your traffic has been blocked. you then said that the way you got around the block on your traffic was to change the address
you not appear to know why. like for what reason is your traffic being blocked? for what reason are linden blocking some http and not others? you don't know and just hack your way around it. and by posting here you telling people that this is the fix. doing this is not a fix. is a hack
+
we cant just assume this is an error/bug on lindens part and blithely hack our way around these things when they happen
sometimes we can easy get so caught up in what we doing that we not consider other reasons. like whats happening on the grid at the moment that might require blocking more than before?
is any number of reasons. but can try the obvious one on mainland. goonsquad. that be a really good reason for linden to start blocking some HTTP i would think
people need be really careful what they do in these situations when get caught up in them. even innocently
best to file a ticket. find out why you being blocked if you are. if you have been added to the chitlist then get yourself removed by following procedure
or can just hack and gamble that your hack is not going to come back and bite you

Orca Flotta wrote:lol 16, it's not easy as that. Unemployment and Health are public insurances and not connected to the taxman. Same as pension funds. Different pots so to speak. Those insurance premiums are automagically substracted from your monthly wages. And your employer pays roughly half of it on top. In Germany we say as a rule of thumb that an employers pays roundabout twice your wages.VAT goes to the gov'ment to do with it whatever they fancy.
(:
sure can make it complicated. or not. like how we think about it. tax. levy. insurance. rate. payment etc. some of the names just sound nicer. but they all pretty much compulsory no matter what we call it. it all end up as the same thing. money we pay for things
our tax systems belong to us. we get what we vote for in the end. if want to change then vote for change. cant expect other people who dont get a vote to pay our taxes for us. taxes we have in our own power to change
+
by comparison
Mar 2003 1NZ = 0.52US
Oct 2007 1NZ = 0.76US
Mar 2013 1NZ = 0.84US
so SL is cheaper for me now than it was back at the start. same for euro countries. not as much cheaper as us. but still cheaper

well is a bit hard to suggest a fix if you not want to say. so that leaves us with guessing (:
am guessing based on your mention of keypresses that they able to out maneuver other players using keyboard combinations at a rate that would normally not be possible
dont need any special viewer to do this. the simplest cheat is keyboard macros. advanced cheats intercept the network packets and mod them on the fly. is how cheats are done in lots of other games
+
you not say but i will make a guess. if am wrong then that's ok. I just say anyway as an example (:
seems like you into horse racing? maybe? thats pretty fast and furious. big money action as well
if so then one way is to shoot the horse in the leg (figuratively) if is going to fast. like in the horse script you set a maximum speed based on its breeding. in the race you monitor its speed. if the horse exceed the max speed for the breed then shoot it in the leg. the horse then fall over bc it lost its footing
if the horse keeps running after it has been shot then can def know the rider is doing something like the packet cheat
+
easy way to solve all this socially is to let all the riders/owners know this is how the horses/races go now. all the honest people be pretty ok with this i think
but if a horse still makes a habit of falling over then make it permanent lame. so no good for racing after that. can just breed off it ever after
something like that is probably how i would look at it
+
edit add: which then raise the social question. a social more even. why would anyone buy the progeny of a lame horse? (:
+
edit more: lol while am thinking about it
horse has stamina. like energy available. sprinters stayers etc. in any race tho then horse only got so much energy. some riders go mad at the start to get good track position before the first bend and then ride defensive. others happy to settle in behind and unleash withering sprint finish. either way it require energy. once is all used up tho then horse runs out of puff

just add to the chorus (:

it also depends on the FPU at any given time. in dynamic environments like SL the calculation can be moved between dif FPU types as the boxes upgraded. simulators swapped out and so on. so can get different lower order bits in these environments
works today. broken tomorrow. works the day after and so on. is not good practice to not take this into account in a dynamic environment which can change for any reason beyond your own control. just to save a few bytes of variable space. or a few microseconds worth of cycles

AnnMarie Otoole wrote:If anyone is interested I've identified the problem.LL has started blocking HTTP destinations. It is perhaps a throttle process to prevent overload although most, if not all of my blocked addresses are very low volume. But once an HTTP address is on the throttle list it stays there. The FIX.Change the HTTP request address in your LSL script and the destination .php (or other) program name to suit.
the fix would be to file a ticket and ask to be removed. what you suggesting is a hack

to OP just do what you asked. get the grade. get the qualification. leave
and then later on in life when you are in a position to actual change the system for real then do it then
right now at this time. just get the piece of paper. the qualification. is your ticket out of the CV rubbish bin

like: 300 applications for 1 job
first sort goes: any ticket/qualification goes on the table. no ticket/qualification goes in the rubbish bin
second sort goes: what ticket/qualification?
have to get past the first sort if going to have any chance these days

Quinn Morani wrote:Dillon Levenque wrote:16 wrote:+peasant rentals was the trigger that lead to the eventual breakdown of the feudalism system and lay the foundation for modern western democracy
I agree with that explanation entirely. The ability to move from serf to peasant was a huge thing. In fact, it's the very reason I refuse to allow a friend who maintains a teensy (and rarely used, sadly: she is almost never inworld) skybox above my property to pay rent. I told her it was straight up feudal rules all the way. Getting 50% of her produce hasn't worked out too well, given that she's produced approximately 0.00 so far, but one of these days her first born son will be old enough to join SL. I look forward to finally having an army.As the peasant (or is it serf? I'm so confused) in question, I'd like to point out that the produce I offer is friendship. And while I concede that said SL produce has been in practically non-existent supply in recent months (pesky RL and all that), I think you can agree, judging by a certain screen capture image I sent you a couple of weeks ago, that you are getting at least 50% of my SL produce.I'll start training my first born son for your army. By the time he's old enough for SL, he'll hopefully be better than I am at making time for his beloved SL friends!you defo a serf. you being enslaved by that vassal person. I am defo going to invade now to set you free. I not want anything in return ok. I just do bc I am for freedom
will be the same for your firstborn. he will grow up in a free land. and he will join my army bc he wants to and not bc he is made to by them vassal types what just come and take your firstborns just bc they can
is my cunning plan. am going to take over the whole world. oops! I mean set everybody free

Jean Horten wrote:Earlier versions of Firestorm will be obsolete soon with server side baking.....J.
yes. the latest beta from the firestorm team seems to have fix most of the pink problems as well. so that's good
I linked to the firestorm jiras so OP can read/learn more about what is the problem for them. so they can get a better understanding of it. was some workround fixes on the jiras also which was working for some other people. so OP could maybe try some of them in the meantime
by dl an older version of firestorm then OP can proof it for themselves. the pink problem. maybe even add to the JIRA if it goes good on this version but not on that one. helps the dev team when can show that

AnnMarie Otoole wrote:The beauty of my "drunken driver" sript is I don't need waypoints, I don't have to map every road and river. The vehicles just explore at random so all I need is a rez site and they crawl out all over the continent like ants foraging for food. Isn't that cool?
no it isn't. is lame
ants learn from past behaviours. your vehicles are dumb. they never learn. that's the problem
your scripting of them is a reflection on your non-understanding of the solution. same the statement you making here
the no-object entry intermittent failure is a fault. clever foragers are fault tolerant. when they aren't then they die. your vehicles die in the same way. that's not cool. or wonderful. or nothing. as a building/coding exercise is pretty lame
like o.m.g !!! my scripted creatures are dying. umm! i know!!! one day the rains will come and will be all good for the poor little things. in the meantime i just keep killing them the same way over and over. to make it rain

Teagan Tobias wrote:I agree, SL is expensive. VAT in the UK went to 20% on January 4, 2011. That brings $295(USD) a month to over $350(USD) a month. Not only is that a car but its a nice new car, and to put in prescriptive... Family decided to try camping and bought a camper and a truck to pull it. “His” truck was a Dodge RAM four door big V8, brand new off the lot not much over that $350 monthly, comfy to ride in and carried everything we needed and pulled the camper too. Not expensive for a big truck, very expensive for a place to play.
historical currency exchange rates
Apr 2003 1EU = 1.09US
Oct 2007 1EU = 1.42US
Mar 2013 IEU = 1.29US
can see why LL stop absorbing the VAT when they did. was killing them. amount left over in their pocket. even with the VAT impost then was still cheaper for EU people to go on SL than at the start
the exchange rate has come back since but even with VAT then EU people are no worse off than at the start. by the money left over in the pocket measure
and EU people get the society benefits that comes from the VAT being applied to their community. maybe not personal all the time. until lost your job or have to go hospital. then get it all back your VAT

jjccc Coronet wrote:if you want to video in hd you need 120fps anything less is low quaulity. way to test this rotate the camera view arround your avitar if its jerky on the edge of the screen then 60 fps isnt ennough and you would want 120 fps instead
true if you got a slow video card
ideally what you want is (60fps or whatever rate) to synch with your monitor MHz perfectly. no matter how fast or slow the camera is moving . then can free up the cycles for other stuff

is firestorm. is a 560. is a problem with the rendering on those as well as ATI with a version release of firestorm. collectively is referred to as pink screen. is the same section of problem code manifesting itself differently on OP screen is all
it goes away on OP screen if turn off shaders. like OP said
if OP rollback to an earlier version of firestorm then the problem will go away

marketplace is the right strategy for LL in the longterm
sales of digital and virtual goods are ever increasing realworld wise. all kinds of stuff now being sold in online virtual stores. the big ones at the moment are music video games and apps. is a flood of pennies but is a monster flood. is getting bigger and bigger every day. as the mechanics and costs/prices of delivering it are evolving
these all content. not spaces. at some point LL will allow creators to mark their marketplace products for sale to other worlds/spaces. mesh (collada) is the key to this. is a open standard and importable into pretty much any game/world/space
the biggest threat to LL isn't another inworld made by some one else. the biggest threat is people making content in SL leaving to create stuff for a 3rd party marketplace which don't sell back into SL and into otherworlds similar to SL

if on a sim that infested by bots to the extent that is affecting the sim performance then can AR them for unfair use of resources
if you sailing/swimming/flying on public sims and you get deny access bc the sims is full of parked up bots then can AR. unfair use again. same is if is your parcel sim and your friends/customers/etc cant come
you need a reason for the AR. the fact they are bots is not a reason all by itself. as bots are legal in SL
