  3. Crimes of Passion 2012 Passion Competition Rules and Guidelines A Crime of Passion, or crime passionnel, in popular usage, refers to a crime in which the perpetrator commits a crime, especially assault, murder or rape, against someone because of a sudden strong impulse such as sudden rage or heartbreak rather than as a premeditated crime. A typical crime of passion might involve an aggressive bar patron who assaults another patron following an argument or a husband who discovers his wife has made him a cuckold and proceeds to brutally batter or even kill his wife and the man she was involved with. Maybe the scorned wife finds the husband cheating. A diner goes into a rage over someone else's cell phone use. The soldier who loses it on the battlefield after seeing a fellow soldier killed (revenge or retaliation). The possibilities are endless. The task at hand will be to make a film showcasing your interpretation of a Crime of Passion. Rules and Guidelines Dates: September 1, 2012 to November 3, 2012 (12 midnight EST) Film Length: The film can be any length. It is preferred if the total length is not over 30 minutes but longer films will be accepted. All judges are required to view the whole film so the longer the films, the longer it will take to judge. Engine: This film can be made using any program you desire (iClone,Moviestorm, The Movies, Poser, Daz, The Sims, game engines such as Halo, GTA, COD, WOW and more) or live action. Where to upload: Can be uploaded to any site (YouTube, Vimeo, TMU, etc.) but a link must be given in the submission form. (example below) Keep in mind that if the site you upload to requires registration or membership, the videos might not be viewable by the general population. It is preferred that sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion and others be used. Warnings: Since this competition is open to all ages, if any strong language or nudity is used, a disclaimer must be presented either at the start of the film or on the film page. Credits: Any use of voice actors, music not supplied with the program of choice or composed by yourself, any mods not made by yourself or an official add-on is recommended to be credited either in the film or on the film page but is not required. You can reach the forums either by going to the main site or by going straight to the forums themselves. We hope you like the new place to visit. Second Life users are highly encouraged to participate. Reallusion has shown an interest in you and are hoping some of you may try to combine the the different engines and make something grand. We also added a page to the main site letting people know a little about who Harb40 is. For those who are interested in this competition, please go to the forums section and let your voices be heard. Who knows, the sponsors we already have, and those I am trying to get signed on, may look at the posts and help out more if they see more activity. This will also give us some ideas of what you are looking for in a competition and keep the themes fresh. Let us know if there are any sponsors you would like to see and prizes you think would be good. Post them in the forums on the Passion Competition website current and future sponsors can see. It is our hope that the Second Life community will be more open to this competition and participate more. There are a few places in the Second Life world where the competition is being advertised. We will try to get more adveritising in-world as we can find more SL'ers willing to help us out.

  16. A question was posed by Ken during the announcement of the competition on the Ken & Cathy show about multi-part films. Would they be considered 1 film or each part a seperate film? Answer: If the film was too big to be released in 1 part, then all parts would be considered 1 film as long as they are all submitted as 1 entry. In other words, you had to upload it in 2 or 3 sections due to file size limits, time durations, etc. If the film was made in the likes of the Indiana Jones saga (each film had it's own seperate storyline) or like Star Wars (each film had a different episode number) then they would be considered seperate films. Films like Conquest, The Dark and Chronicles of Humanity, (these are machinima films) each seperate film would be considered a seperate entry.
  17. 1 week into the competition and things are starting to heat up. Submissions are already being made. Just remember, the dealine for submissions is November 12th. We are hoping to see many many wonderful films this year.
  18. It is now Sunday, September 4th. Submissions are now being accepted for the Passion Competition. See the link for the TMOA Radio forums above for more info on how to enter.
  19. I forgot to add one important note: Number of entries per person/studio: You may enter up to 3 films but only 1 prize will be awarded per person/studio.
  20. Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, machinimators of all ages, once again it is time for us to embark on the journey through people's minds and creativity and see what their ideas of passion are. So, without further ado, I give you the: 2011 Harb40 Passion Competition. 2011 Passion Competition Rules and Guidelines Ethics also known as moral philosophy, is a branch of philosophy that addresses questions about morality -- that is, concepts such as good and evil, right and wrong, virtue and vice, justice, etc. Good against evil contradiction is the eternal story of mankind. The universe is made of oppositions, contrasts, conflicts and dilemma. The stories of God and Satan highlight this. There are also examples such as police forces against criminals, arguments between husbands and wives (the wife is always right, right?) and even land owners against city expansion (eminent [imminent] domain). 23. In 2007, I started a thing called the Passion Competition. That year it was basically for fun with virtual credits through the Lionhead forums as prizes. Over the past few years it has grown and has now become a very serious yet fun competition. Basically what it is is a film making competition. The first 2 years the theme was to make a film based on the dictionary definition of passion. Last year I made the theme based on the 7 Deadly Sins. This year will have a different theme based on passion. There are set guidelines and rules for entry that are posted each year. All platforms (iClone, The Sims, The Movies, Moviestorm, Poser/Daz, Second Life, Muvizu and more) are allowed. Also allowed is live action films. The prizes have grown over the years also. The second year, I put up my own money and offered online gift certificates. Last year, Sony Software donated Sony Vegas software, Reallusion donated iClone and CrazyTalk software and Moviestorm offered up thier software as prizes. I also added a gift certificate and some other software as prizes. This year, Sony Software, Reallusion and Moviestorm have all come onboard again as official sponsors and offered quite a bit of software for prizes (all totaled over $3000 worth). The official theme will be announced in late August with the actual competition taking place between September 4th and November 12th of 2011. I will make more announcements as the competition draws closer. The official entry point for the competion will be on the TMOA forums located here: http://www.tmoaradio.com/vb/index.php. Registration is free and easy. I use that forum simply to have 1 location for all entries and to make it easier for the judges to know who has entered. I have also made a Facebook Groups page for those who have Facebook access with information about all the previous competitions including winners and prizes: http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_211515672195252&ap=1 Check it out. I am hoping to see some entries utilizing Second Life this year. Feel free to ask questions if you want more information.
  24. A friend helped me out. I had to go to the advanced menu/debug and look for RenderUnloadedAvatar and set it to true. Got my avatar back.
  25. Not sure what I did but it happens when I use the Second Life Viewer 2 or if I use Firestorm viewer. My avatar shows up as a white oval and I cannot make it show my avatar. Therefore, I cannot make any changes to my avatar since I can't see it. Any suggestions? I have updated all graphics drivers today and that didn't help.
