  1. I use the Yahoo instant messenger to keep in touch with my SL friends. Unlike Facebook, Yahoo does not spy on me, it doesn't track my browsing habits, and it doesn't require me to sign up with my RL name. And even if I do, Yahoo won't share this information with every yahoo on the internet. Plus, Yahoo IM wasn't developed by some antisocial kid with the emotional range of a sea cucumber and the business ethics of a tapeworm.

  2. You can disable this in Phoenix under Preferences --> Phoenix --> tab "Page 1" --> tab "TP/Login" --> Disable Login Progress Screen.

If you use a Linden viewer, you could delete the image file instead. It is located in the same folder as your chat- and IM logs. On Windows 7 or Vista systems, this is usually C:\Users\*your user account name*\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\*your SL account name*\screen_last.bmp

The first and last name of your SL account are separated by an underscore ( _ ). So if your Windows login name was Baconsandwich, the screen_last.bmp would be in C:\Users\Baconsandwich\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\Domitan_Redenblack\

In some cases, there is also a screen_home.bmp. I have no idea what the difference is between the two files, but both might be shown during login (I assume it depends on if you log in or out at your home location or elsewhere). Both files can safely be deleted, in which case the viewer will show a generic picture during the login process.

The file deletion can be automated with an executable batch file. Create a new text file on your desktop or in a start menu folder (right click --> New --> Text Document), open it, enter the following two lines, and replace Baconsandwich with your user name:

    DEL /F /Q /A C:\Users\Baconsandwich\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\Domitan_Redenblack\screen_last.bmp

    DEL /F /Q /A C:\Users\Baconsandwich\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\Domitan_Redenblack\screen_home.bmp

If you have alts, you might want to add their folders too. Simply duplicate the two lines and replace Domitan_Redenblack with your alt name(s). Then save the text file, rename it, and change the file extension from .txt to .bat. Now you only need to remember to run this batch file after you log out of SL. Alternatively, you can switch to the Phoenix viewer :)

I think people who have their established posse in SL already should use offworld forums for reinforcing their posse, and not try to exploit the SL forums for this purpose, especially when their posses aren't open to recruit new

    advisors, contributors, helpers, or VIPs.

    FIFY :)

(Let's stay rank-inclusive, shall we? This is not India, where people are expected to socialize only within their own caste).

  4. It's probably because the item contains no-mod scripts. It will show as +mod if you rez it and as no-mod in your inventory, but you can usually still modify it when worn. The only drawback is that you can't rename the item in your inventory.

  5. All Dutch people that I ever met were able to communicate in English.

Besides, take a look at the German boards. Germans are one of the largest non-English communities in SL, and their subforum is pretty much empty. There are only five short threads that weren't started by a Linden. With the exception of the Spanish forum, the other international forums are even more void of content. Do we really need yet another forum with two lonely threads in it?

No problem I said in my descriptions if Disney did not like me selling it I will stop.

I think you can be pretty certain that Disney won't like it and will have a problem with you if you use their trademarks without their permission.

You know if all the intelectual property was removed from SL. Linden might lose most of it's income.

No. Most SL content is original and legal.

Is it possible to get permission from Disney?

Yes, if you're prepared to pay their license fees. That's a lot of L$ that you have to earn back though.

Please limit threads, the spam is ruining the forum! I love these forums, don't let them be ruined please.

Alternatively, LL could give us the 24/7 moderation that was promised for the forums. At this point, I'd even be glad if they brought back resmods.

@Ishtara: I can't believe that you are advising people to avoid stress! Here! In the official SL forums! Where you yourself have been exposing yourself to manifold stresses for the last year or so at least! Get on that exercise bike and get out of these forums NOW! For your own good! Cato PS Apologies for all those potentially stress inducing exclamation marks. I have been told that I don't suffer from stress but I am a carrier of the disease. Sorry!

It wasn't really stressful for the most part. In fact, I find heated debates to be quite relaxing :)

@ Ishtara: Well I am flabbergasted (and impressed)-- yes, whoever markets this thing will become a billionaire many times over. Why not you?

Perhaps not a billionaire, but I'm quite sure that there is money in the idea of a fitness workplace or a computer desk add-on for existing sports equipment.

Alas, I'm not allowed to earn more than 400 Euro a month in addition to my early retirement pension. At least not until I'm 65. I'd rather not lose my pension and have relative financial security for the rest of my life than taking any chances. So if anybody wants to market something like this, go ahead :)

  10. Blasphemy! Nothing has changed, simply because we were told that nothing would change once the teens are here. It can't be. Everything is just like before. It's just the SL adult industry that floats belly up, and we are no longer wanted here anyway.

Mute them. Then go to their store and purchase something cheap. IM them and complain that you didn't get your purchase (you really won't get it if you muted them). Since you cannot see their answer to your complaint, IM them three times a day. Threaten with abuse reports. Threaten with legal action. Let them figure it out.

    Doesn't IM'ing them un-mute them? I think so. :smileysurprised:

Does it? I'm not sure. Well, in that case the OP could just pretend :) The idea is to give them a taste of their own spam , and also a broad hint that their own customers are muting them if they overdo it.

  12. I would also add high calory drinks to your point 4, such as most soft drinks. They are a main contributor to weight gain. Stick to water, tea, and coffee (coffee drinkers should drink a lot of water in addition, since coffee dehydrates the body). And sugar-free isotonic drinks in the summer months, which help to replenish the minerals that one loses through sweating. A glass of fruit juice is not a drink to quench the thirst, it's a small meal (not to mention a can of coke, which is pretty much the caloric equivalent of two breakfasts).

That was a very good reply and I couldn't agree with you more. Here are some other ideas that you might want to employ (if possible)

    1. Set the alarm clock of every 30-45 minutes and when it goes off use that time to get up and stretch, get some water and generally move around for about 10-15 minutes.

    2. Get up and eat your meals away from the computer. Your body can't digest properly if it is distracted with playing SL.

    3. Stay hydrated... When you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated and chugging water is not going to fix this. I recommend having a water bottle or glass of water near you at all times.

    4. If you are going to be sitting playing SL more than you are going to be moving around, stay away from the junk and high starch foods. These will only make you gain weight faster if you are eating them and not moving around.

If we can all incorporate just a few of these healthy suggestions, we can maintain a healthier RL and in turn a healthier SL.

I agree with all of that except for second point :) The only danger of working or reading while eating is that one doesn't really concentrate on the task at hand and forgets to chew properly. Aside from that, the gastrointestinal digestion process only really kicks into gear after your meal and continues for hours. If you couldn't digest food while sitting at a PC, you could never use a PC at all.

The important thing is to avoid stress as much as possible. Stress pretty much disables many of the internal processes that are controlled by the parasympathetic and enteric nervous system, such as food digestion. That's why stress can lead to all kinds of digestive problems. Which means that if your computer activities are not stressful for you, there is nothing that speaks against eating at your desk :)

It also means that if anything stresses you during the day, don't do it anymore. Quit a stressful job, get divorced from a partner that annoys you, give your kids up for adoption, and generally do whatever it takes to avoid stress as much as possible. Very few things are as bad for your health as stress.

[...] Many of us don't realize how much time we actually spend at the computer in Second Life and how our health can suffer for it, thus causing us to have less time on Second Life than we would like. Who knows of some ways in which we can combat this effect and still stay on Second Life the amount of time we do?

What makes you think that people are idly sitting in an office chair when they use their computer? :) I, for one, am often walking, jogging or biking when I browse the web or play Second Life, for at least two hours a day.

This is my treadmill setup. I've added a little desk and a monitor platform:

    s02.jpg

It's hard to type while I'm jogging, so I usually either walk at a medium pace or stick to computer activities that don't require typing, such as reading news articles or forums.

What works much better for all kinds of online activities is a stationary bicycle, which is the newest addition to my little multimedia fitness studio:

    s03.jpg

    s04.jpg

Instead of a monitor, I use my 50" plasma TV. But the little selfmade desk would also be perfectly suited for a notebook.

I'm amazed that nobody sells something like this as of yet. One should think that in a world where more and more people are online for 12 hours a day or more, a lot of them would be looking for a way to stay connected while working out.

And a stationary bicycle is just perfect for computer work. I often don't even notice anymore that I'm using my legs. I could sit there and work or chat while pedaling away for hours on end, and I often do just that. A padded gel cover for the saddle is a must of course :)

PS: Every workplace should have one of these, imho. The employees could take turns during the day. Imagine what that could do for the public health.
