Hojo Warf

Netgear R6350 AC1750 is the router that had problems. I do not know if the one I bought was faulty or if its behavior was the result of Netgear adding too many features which just caused problems. I replaced it with Linksys MR6350. Cheaper, less bells and whistles but so far completely stable with SL.

Thank you all for your help and time. I'm returning this router and getting something different. On the bright side I learned quite a bit about router operations! thanks again

What should I look for in the task manager that is an indication of concern?

Still getting disconnects. Nat filtering is set to open and SIP ALG is turned off. Awesome. Thanks so much! I was ready to return this router to the store. I am switching that now. What about SIP ALG? I looked it up and many sources say to turn it off for VOIP. Should I disable that as well?

All valid points, Henri and Ardy, thanks! These are things I can look into. The thing is it happens independently to me and my fiancee. We are both on the same router on different computers in different rooms. We both get disconnections that we didn't get before the new router but never at the same time. If there was a packet interruption beyond the router wouldn't we both get disconnected at the same time?

I believe it is absolutely my new router. Question is is it working as intended and there is some new protocol that Netgear put in that decides that certain connections are stale and just cuts them off or is there a hardware fault? So back to my original question; Does anyone know of a reliable outbound port number that I can use for port triggering in the router to force the router to keep SL connections open?

Yes. The old router never randomly disconnected SL. It just randomly lost connection to DNS and needed to be rebooted constantly.

Thanks for the reply but I am not on a closed network and there are no blocks to SL in my router firewall or either computer involved. I am working on port triggering after exhausting multiple other options. I have to suspect that my router is doing something like timing out the udp packets coming from SL and doing it at a level where I can't see it configured in the router interface. I am hoping that port triggering will explicitly keep those ports open and stop the disconnects. With that being said I just need one reliable outbound port number to trigger on and use that to trigger as many inbound ports as needed to keep SL running. I already have a nice list of ports I want to keep open. I just need to know the best trigger port.
