Answered my own question! The answer was anti-aliasing, screws it all up I guess. I'm still wondering about where the circle of confusion has gone to though.

Call me country bumpkin but where did CameraCoC go? I guess it changed names to something else in a recent release but to what? Also, with shadows turned on I can't see any lighting effects or shadows unless I cam in unreasonably close. With all previous mesh betas I had absolutely none of these problems and things worked beautifully so I'm not sure what's going on.
