Amodtha Barineaux
Hello there :)I am new to SL and am doing an Ethnography for my university on the culture specific to SL. I study Applied Linguistics at Georgia State University.I am hoping to meet some people through these forums who wouldn't mind guiding me around a bit as well as perhaps participating in some casual interviews. If you think you would like to do this, or would like some more information, please contact me here or inword via PM.
VRprofessor
I've only read the first chapter, but this book should have some guidence on ethography in SL. My own advice is to put some info in your profile and start hanging out at popular places or places that intrigue you. Someone will eventually read your info and get intrigued. Become a participant/observer.
iheartmyself
I think SL studies would be difficult to do in SL because the information people freely volunteer may not be useful. I think you might want to look at the marketplace and see if you cannot count the number of skins on the market that caucasian looking versus asian, black and native american. Then create a Venn diagram and compare the skins on sale to the world population for the races. Then see if you cannot find some way to compare sales of skin by race as a type. I bet that there is an inverse relationship between ethnicity and skin sales for certain demographics.
