I have been looking into buying a new desk top and would like some opinions on these two computer configurations.

1. HPE510t series

intel core i5 6mb cache

6gb ddr3-1333mhz sdram

1TB 7200rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive

1GB DDR3 nvidia geforce 405

premium wireless-n lan card

 

 

2. Dell XPS 8300

INTEL CORE I5 6mb cache

6gb ddr3-1333mhz sdram

1TB 7200rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive, 16mb cache

ATI radeon hd 5450 1gb ddr3

dell wireless 1501 wireless-n pcie card

standard usb 2.0 + 10/100/1000 ethernet

 

Are the graphics card good enough for second life? opinions on the processors? any opinions on HP versus dell?

They will probably both run SL but I would advise not using a wireless connection all the time. You can get packet loss using wireless with SL and that is not conducive to a pleasant experience. Good luck

Both of those cards are very weak, the HD 5450 I believe can run on mid settings but that's the best you can hope for. Altho after looking at Dell and HP's web sites I have to say their selection is limited and they tend to over charge. So I say buy the machine as is and get your own video card.
