You can either verify your age using the link on the "My Account" page on the Second Life website, or buy a small amount of L$ on the same page (or simply add your credit card number or Paypal address as payment information, if you are a US citizen).

The latter is known as account verification, as opposed to age verification. Both types of verification give you access to the adult-rated part of the SL grid. There is only a handful of sim owners that restrict access to age-verified residents. For most adult sims, account verification is sufficient.
