Jacques Susanti
Yes , on a Mac, same issue here... When I try to log in I get the message I can't log on because I'm not using the required update then get redirected to the downloads page. I must have checked the version number 100 times, but it is the exact same one as I have in my in my applications folder: the latest viewer update. Which worked fine until this issue popped up like 8 hours ago! I have 3 Macs, did a fresh download & install of this "required" viewer on each one just to be sure, but the issue still remains. Help! Jacques Susanti
As luck would have it I still had the download of mac viewer 3.6.4, I reinstalled it and yes, it actually logs you in. But 3.6.6 and the maintenance viewer 3.6.7 still don't!
Viktoria Dovgal
If you are running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) then the downgrade is intentional. This has been added to the 3.6.4.280048 release notes: Users running Mac OS X 10.6 have been restricted to this version because the Cocoa upgrade has caused a number of regressions on those systems. Snow Leopard's getting really old. It would be a really good idea to look into updating if you're not stuck on 32 bit hardware. The Mac upgrade treadmill can be pretty brutal, expect more of this kind of thing outside SL too.
Samm Florian
Oh that's ridiculous! I ran 3.6.6 just the other day and it was fine…better'n fine, the first release that actually did Advanced Lighting correctly! How 'bout leavin' it up t'us t'decide. Well, back t'Firestorm fer me. Viktoria Dovgal
You can mess with the version and channel if you want to force it to run on unsupported hardware.
Jacques Susanti
Well I can log in again using 3.6.6. without a problem. I hope that goes for everybody. If not I did report it as a bug on the bug tracker and any addtional info is useful. Thanks for the heads up Viktoria. I confess I hardly ever do more than glance at the release notes. But I would like to point out that if there is an issue with OS10.6 and viewer 3.6.6. it hasn't reared it's ugly head aside from the last 12 hours. It is odd to say the least that it would pop up so suddenly. Besides that it is even more odd one would get a redirect to a page where one can download the same version 3.6.6. that is causing the problem in the first place! Ok, 10.6 is "old" but it's not ancient and I know a lot of mac users that stick with it for one reason or another ( I'm more or less stuck with it for various work related soft- and hardware issues) So imho making 3.6.4 more easily available for 10.6 users would make sense. Jacques Susanti
A last heads up for any Mac OSX 10.6.xx users out there. I had reported the issue on the Jira (BUG-4017) and got a reply : "We apologize and the updater system has been fixed and the downgrade is now opitonal." I pointed out that in the first place 3.6.6. logs me in again without a hitch. But in the light of the warning on the SL wiki about Mac OSX 10.6 being restricted to viewer 3.6.4 I was confused if I should stick to 3.6.4 or could safely use 3.6.6. You can follow any further comments on the Jira if you happen to be concerned about the same thing.
