I've no idea what a 64-bit 084 update is. All viewers are 32-bit although they will work fine on 64-bit Windows OS. They install into the 32-bit Program Folder. You say strange inventory behaviour but no details so it's pretty difficult to help with no information to go on. You can add information using Options/Edit to the upper right of your post.

Personally, I never use the automatic viewer updates and have Preferences set to manual updates. When a new viewer version is released I uninstall the old and then download and install the new one. If an auto update has screwed up your viewer, try a clean install. Restart your computer before installing the new SL application. Your inventory will be reloaded from the LL server.
