Is there a setting to cancel out the edit/build mode?

I would have thought when I click on the ground after editing attachments or even a prim that the edit/build mode would cancel itself out where I would then have to right click again to start over.So what do I have to change to cancel out edit/build mode with our having to close the edit/build panel. I can get it to cancel out when I click on my avatar but not the ground.

If you want to let go of the selection but leave the edit window up, press Ctrl+E

If you want to open up the editor without a right-click and edit first, use Ctrl+3
