Blender (collada) texturing question

I am happily making a runied temple mesh but am not bothering to do uv texture for faces that don't show. I could of course do the work, but is it needed?

 

Also I upload and the preview displays banded color. The mesh resolves in game anyway. Is this a server thing? I thought pehaps my untextured faces make the uploader hang.


I'll go ahead and texture all the faces that expect a uv map. Still curious.
