Am hearing you " I believe a lot of real life bands could benefit if they made more use of SL machinima for their videos" but would add a word of caution, this is not a top down development field and all projects must involve the artists if the genre is to unfold. There is no room for imitating the music with avatars simply as proof it can be done, the future will have a far different face on it and as such should be developed hand in hand with artist so as to for lack of better words make it credible. What we in virtual worlds are doing in this music/machinima is to make it possible for all to be able to use these platforms as part of the creative process. We have done this with an artist and his recording company here in the UK , with emphasis on they having a part in all aspects, with our job mainly being both assist in them finding their way in this new platform, but most important of all managing expectations. Also of concern is copyright issues which if unchecked will lead to again lack of credibility.
