If your audio freezes (ticks) and your mouse freezes momentarily it is due to your video card overheating. Even my computer clock would accumulate lost time. I burned out 2 video cards before I finally found one with mega cooling that has run 24/7 for 3 or 4 years now. You may be able to recover by removing your video card, check the fan(s) are running and blowing out any dust with compressed air.
