  1. Many of you will have heard of the Giant Snail Races, run by RacerX Gullwing, which have been running weekly in SL since 2004 and celebrated their 8th birthday last Saturday. Well, it's always good to see fresh blood taking part, and to that end here's a special offer for anyone who's never raced before: come and take part in the races on Saturdays at 11am, finish one race, and 500 lindens will be yours; it's as easy as that. And that's not all: there are cash prizes for everyone who qualifies for the final race. Win it and you'll walk away with another 500 Lindens! And it really is the best time to start racing. The first six-race season of the brand new 2012-13 Championship year starts this Saturday. Win cash prizes of 1,500, 1,000 or 500 Lindens for finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in that. Do well in the other five seasons that make up the Championship and you could be in the running for the 5,000 Linden grand prize for top snail of the year! So, how do you start? Well, simply head to Devon Dream - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Devon%20Dream/154/95/777 - and when you get there click through the tutorial buttons 1 – 8 (you may find free gifts, too) and follow the instuctions within. Alternatively, here's a video giving you an overview of the course: And that's all there is to it, really. A race will consist of three laps around the track; when you're confident you can do that IM RacerX Gullwing (alternatively Tindallia Soothsayer or Safra Nitely) and say you'd like to apply for a snail racing license. They'll check that you can do three laps around the course, and then you can race on Saturday. If they're not around then they'll be at the track from 8am onwards on Saturday so you can do it then. We'd love to see you there. It's a lot of fun, and you can earn cash at the same time. What could be better? And your efforts will be fimed for posterity; all the races are recorded and shown on Treet TV: http://treet.tv/shows/snailraces So do come along, but do it quickly. The 500 Linden offer for new snails may be retracted at short notice. Hope to see you soon!
  2. Hi there. You may be aware of RacerX Gullwing's Giant Snail Races, which have taken place weekly in SL since 2004. Well, occasionally we take to the road to raise funds for Relay For Life, and Saturday is one such event. And we'd love it if you could take part! This time it's the turn of Sansara continent to get slimed, in a race that will cross 51 sims. We start out at Huron in the East and finish up at Noyo in the West. There's a detour that takes us past The Shelter, so expect a complete lagfest there. See the route here: http://treet.tv/content/clips/relay-life Oh, yes! There's prizes for everyone who completes the course, so come join us! Absolutely no experience is necessary other than an ability to engage mouselook, run mode and change into your special RFL giant snail avatar, which is absolutely free! Pick it up, and submit your entry fee (which starts at 100L) here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlif...am/151/100/777 at Devon Dream; the home of Giant Snail Racing. Busy at the time? Not to worry. The races are filmed by treet.tv. Take a look and see what Giant Snail Racing is all about.
  3. Urgh. What a frustrating evening. I'm wanting to build a covered wagon, so I've knocked up some wheels and added a rotation script I found in my library. Now I should state that I know *nothing* about scripting, so I was quite pleased with myself when I managed to get it to rotate about the right axis by altering a value in the script. And that's the most extensive scripting I've done in my four years, so that's the level you're dealing with here. So, great! Four wheels on my wagon, and even a couple of axles; link them all together...and the entire build starts rotating. And me trying to edit things only makes matters worse; I'm currently sitting here watching axles, wheels and wagon rotating independently. So, as per the title, is there an easy way to achieve the effect I want? It's as if the rotation script has transferred from the wheels into the wagon. There has to be a way around this, surely? Any advice would be muchly appreciated!
  4. Hi there. So you fall out of the sky and it's the one time you've forgotten to pack your parachute. Typical. You splat hard against the ground, then get up and dust yourself down. My question is: Is there a way to completely disable this animation? I should state I don't want a different animation; what I'd like is no landing animation whatsoever, so I can go from falling to walking instantaneously. Rummaging around on the net I've found a script which is supposed to achieve this, but here's the next problem: I know nothing about scripts and can't get it to work. What I assume you do is copy it, open a new script, paste it, save it, put it in a prim then wear the prim, yes? It doesn't work for me; I still hit the ground hard. Am I doing something wrong? Failing this, is this something that could be achieved using a different viewer? Thinking about it I may have read something along these lines a couple of years ago. Thanks for any help.
  5. Hello there! You may be aware of RacerX Gullwing's Giant Snail Races, which have taken place weekly in SL since 2004. Well, occasionally we take to the road, and Sunday is one such event. And we'd love it if you could take part! This time it's the last of our monthly fundraisers in aid of Relay For Life, and it's a monster! A 60-sim marathon from Ranunculus at the North of Heterocera Atoll, following the coast road and ending up at Calleta in the South, 50 minutes or so later, give or take a wrong turn here or there. Absolutely no experience is necessary other than an ability to engage mouselook, run mode and change into your special RFL giant snail avatar, which is absolutely free! Pick it up, and submit your entry fee (which start at just 1L) here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlif...rne/180/149/33 The normal races have a different theme every week, and our charity fundraisers are no exception. This time, since the theme of this year's Relay is 'Seasons of hope', we're going for 'Autumn'. Or 'Fall', if you prefer. If you like you can customise your snail in this theme, and maybe win 'Best in show'. Can't make it but would like to watch anyway? No problem; the races are, as ever, shown live on Treet TV: http://treet.tv/ Find some more information here: http://treet.tv/forums/relay-life/topics/giant-snail-rfl-races-2011 I hope you can make it; it really is a lot of fun. If you've thought about racing before but never tried it then go on: make this your first time. Let's make it the laggiest Giant Snail Race ever!
  6. Anybody else or just me? Just upgraded, and when I logout I crash on every occasion. Not really a problem, I suppose, as it doesn't affect my SL experience. But should I send the crash report every time? They'll soon get fed up of them, I imagine.
  7. Or specifically Viewer 2.3, as that's the version I use until that trouser flare bug is fixed. Have they become incredibly troublesome for anyone else? These days it seems I can only cross a maximum of five sims before I start drifting and then get the *ting!* "Darn. You have been logged out of second life. You have been disconnected from the region you were in" message. It's incredibly irritating, especially when I'm racing. This is running, by the way; it's not with a vehicle. At first I put it down to running at Ultra settings, but it happens at low settings, too. And using a no-attachment avatar. But still the same problem. I can't quite remember when this started happening, but I don't recall having the problem with early V2 versions. Anyway, in desperation I went back and tried 1.23.5 and guess what? Sim crossings, even at Ultra settings, are easy. I went for a 50 minute run last night: not a single failure. So has anyone else had this problem with this viewer? I mean, I know crossings have never been the smoothest, but constantly being logged out (and just being logged out. Not crashing) can't be right. I can't see that anyone's filed a JIRA about it, save for the catch-all, 'Region crossings fail' one, but who reads that these days? So for racing I'm back on 1.23.5, but I have been thinking about investigating TPVs. I'd be very interested to hear of someone fixing this problem by switching to one.
  8. Giant Snail Racing FTW! As I believe the young people say:
  9. Thanks, everyone. The correct answer was...get someone who knows how to build properly to do it for you
  10. Hi all. I've got an odd shape I need to create, and I'd really like your advice on how I can achieve it if indeed it's possible. I've got these two shapes: The smaller ring is then raised 0.356m above the bottom one, like so: Now, what I'd like to do is create a shape that will join the two rings. I've made a decent enough stab at the front of it by taking a ring, path-cutting it and playing around with stretching and tapering it: What I'd like to do is finish off the other half in the same vein. The problem I have with that is that I'm trying to make a shape that's curved at the top, and either flat or more curved at the bottom. I've been playing around with cutting cones, hemicylinders, tapering cylinders, stretching them and so on and so forth, but it's a real bind. Are there any experienced builders out there who could give me some hints and tips to more easily achieve the shape I need? I hope this is something that be done with standard prims. I suppose it could more easily be done with sculpties, yes? Unfortunately I'm not a builder and know absolutely nothing about them, so any help you could give me would be much appreciated :)
  11. Thanks, Griffin, Hippie; that's exactly what I was looking for
  12. I have a 42 prim pre-built object, to which I've added 41 prims of my own. To link them all I did a mass selection, thinking that the root prim would be the root prim of the pre-built object, but it's one of the prims I added. So is there any way to select the root prim in a mass selection? It seems to be the last one that's highlighted when you drag the box around it, yes? Unfortunately, due to the way the item is constructed that's not going to help. Is there a way I can do a mass selection and then click a prim to select it as the root? If not then the only other way is to select them individually, but I'd rather not do that, thanks all the same
  13. Thanks Vick, Peter; this seems like it could be a good workaround; I'll give it a try
  14. Thanks, Marigold; I suspected as much. And yes; you're right. Such an ability would prove very useful whilst Giant Snail Racing
  15. Is it possible to have two minimaps running at once? Ideally with different levels of magnification. It's no, isn't it?
