I am at the Crystals Hearts event today. Which is a good reminder for me as to why I can't really enjoy these events. 100 stalls with almost 100% gacha items. I want to spend money, but I can't be a responsible consumer by gambling for 100% of the items that I desire. Beyond the legal implications, its easy to see why so many people want this gone.

If you were to have a timer, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, whatever, enough of an inconvenience, where after that time expires the vendor will re-roll the offering, but a purchase of that item re-rolls it NOW, then you can create that effect with no forced purchase AND trigger impulse buying mechanisms.

If 10 people are watching the vendor, and the vendor only locks to the person who made the purchase for 30 seconds, they will have 30 seconds to decide if they want it or not before someone else could theoretically swoop in to buy it from under them. This removes the forced purchase of an RNG product issue, triggers impulse buy mindset, and could incentivize sim traffic of people idling near machines to wait for the next offering... For people who did want to just buy 50 of them until they get the one they want, that is still an option, but all forced RNG purchasing is removed by the addition of a timer.

 

I don't script vendors, and cannot push this model to the market if I wanted to, buy as the person offering the idea I freely stamp it as open source variation on the model so anyone else who wants can tackle the idea and noone can claim it was their idea and someone stole it.

 

It just feels like everyone is trying to come up with some idea that is essentially the same thing. Just with more layers to try and hide what it is. I really don't think this will fly.

Plenty, but the user base doesn't get to dictate the laws of nations. So while I am not surprised this conversation is 60 pages long, nothing anyone has to say here is going to reverse this.

The only reason they would change this now, is because there is outside pressure to do so.

Several creators are already working on a solution to offer a new gacha alternative that shows you what you are getting for your payment. Then the machine offers a new item for sale. This should be allowed under the new policy.

However, if the policy is interpreted or expanded as you are not allowed to take payment for an item that triggers a random outcome then this type of vendor would not be allowed. But then breedables would fall under this policy because the traits generated are a random outcome after purchase.

We anxiously await the FAQ for answers. 

Yeah that sounds like it would likely get the legs clipped out from under it. Wouldn't go scripting that just yet.

EDIT - Aren't you just gambling to see the next item then? The more I think about it, the more it sounds like the same thing.

I avoid no-modify items. Just like I avoid gacha. If folks business begins to dry up from this, they will undoubtedly offer modify items. Content creators often work together, but at the same time they are also in competition with each other. If dollars are being left on the table, someone is going to reach for them.

I've seen several cases where a vendor offers a no mod version and then a mod version for a higher price. I always reach for the mod version.

LL wouldn't do this if they didn't feel some sort of regulator pressure. So don't expect them to reverse it. Just get started converting items over to single sell or fatpacks.

I am in full support of anything in the gaming industry that removes lootbox/gambling mechanics.
