  1. According to the LL Viewer, my avatar is 5 feet 7 inches, so I am small compared to some others, but by no means compared to all others. I have a shop bought skin and shape, which I have not adjusted and which I am very happy with and I have noticed avatars seem to be getting smaller. At that height, I feel more comfortable with my avatar's height and size in SL, as it compares well to the average height of the people of the South East Asian country that I live in RL.

It seems from what has been posted here, that the height measurement for the LL viewer versus the FS viewer is just the difference between something inside the head and the top of the head? If that is so, then this doesn't seem like a big thing.

I caught Abnor lowing the land around new train tracks at Three Sheets & adding pillars to support the bridge crossing to the Welcome HUB. The area looks great & makes me think it won't be too much longer before the northern cliff edge of the Log Homes regions will be added.

Abnor running across the bridge (possibly caught by lag).

You can just make out, from these pics, that the new tracks go east at a higher level and west at a lower level, in the new region, Three Sheets. The new railway bridge is spectacular.

  3. This is from another topic about the work being done to resolve this issue. It is a quote from the Simulator User Group -

[2023/05/02 12:04]  Rider Linden: So.  Kicking things off in Simulator news.  Today we just bounced the main channel, so nothing has changed there.
[2023/05/02 12:06]  Rider Linden: Tomorrow morning we're going to be expanding the new simulator to the rest of the RC channels.  We'd hoped some of the changes there would have helped with the online friends issues, but it would seem that there are still some issues there.

It has been happening too often now. Even I'm logged in, my friends don't see me online. Only after I've sent them a message, I suddenly appear online to them.

It has been happenig almost every day, for many month now.

    Here are just two examples:

[11:49] .: Martin Mouni :. (martinmoun): technical question.. did you see me online?
    [11:50] friend 1: no
[11:50] friend 1: I see your name on now

[11:50] .: Martin Mouni :. (martinmoun): technical question.. did you see me online?
[11:51]  friennd 2: now I do, not before

Why is that? Does anyone else experience this almost every day?
This is a serious problem. It causes a lot of misunderstandings.

The Lindens are always ambiguous on completion dates. So...  soon™. When they do they will announce it on the SL Blog's Featured News.

You can check in the viewer by opening the Complete Avatars panel. There is a button and in the top menu Avatar -> Complete Avatars.

Thank you. I checked where you said, in the viewer and only the old new avatars appear. I will wait for the big announcement.

Have you tried power-cycling the modem and any other network hardware you control between your SL client machine and the ISP? It is possible for network performance to be fine to everywhere else, but held up only for connections with the CDN whence all textures come. (It could be the ISP throttling specific traffic, too, but that's harder.)

It is certainly possible for time of day (and many other things) to affect CDN performance, but this level of degradation seems more likely something between the CDN and the screen.

Thanks for your comments. I did more checking and it does seem to be related to time of day. Maybe as my day is SL night, there is maintenance going on.

One thing to check because textures are either fetched across the internet of loaded from your disk cache. If you have any antivirus checker which is constantly looking at the cache directory this can slow down reads and writes in this area of the disk.

Thank you. I do not. This is a new issue.

  8. Apologies if this is not the correct topic for this.

    Since this on 18 Feb

Scheduled - Second Life is currently experiencing a database outage, and we are working to correct the issue as quickly as possible. During this time please refrain from transacting inside Second Life, as in-world L$ transactions and Lindex purchases may fail. Additionally, some users may be logged out, and users will be unable to log in. Users that remain logged in may experience teleport/region crossing failures, and may find other in-world service unstable.

I have found texture loading, even for things from my inventory, really slow. For example, I added a BOM skin texture and 16 minutes later, it loaded and changed from grey. It does not seem to be region related. HUDS are the same in loading slowly.

In case it matters, this is the viewer I am using -

    Second Life Release 6.6.10.578087 (64bit)

Is there something going on that is causing this? Is it the time of day? Is it the viewer? My connection is as usual, with no difference in performance. I never experienced such slow loading textures before.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

Also, if it is using particles, ensure that you can keep them within your parcel - particles can drift into public areas and even onto other people's parcels, if they are too long-lived.

Oh yes, a very good point. I have experienced leaves from a neighbour's tree, falling in to my house. I absolutely will not be using a weather system.

Thanks to all for making valid comments.

There is nothing in the covenant saying you can't; but the point I was making is that there are many many things not in the covenant, but they could be. So the question residents want to ask themselves isn't can they do a particular thing, but should they do a particular thing. If it becomes a practice that enough people find objectionable it could become something we have to address in the covenant. If you do use one, I would make sure it was as considerate to your neighbors as possible. Perhaps even something you turn on when you are home, but doesn't run when you are offline or away.

This is an excellent and well explained answer. All of the points you make are reasonable and valid. Thank you.

  11. Are weather systems allowed on Linden Homes plots, such as rain, thunder, lightening etc.? I have seen some that I think are pretty cool, but I would not want to use one, if it is against the covenant.

    Thank you.

Inworld search is worse than before.  It used to leave the results up on the page before but now as soon as I resolve the search and use one link, it resets.  I'm annoyed to keep posting my search term over and over.  It never used to do this.  Also, when I open search function, I have to wait a bit before putting my search term in because of, I guess it's lag?  Never used to do that either.

When first loading, it can be very slow at times.

  13. I just managed to get a traditional. I couldn't get the content creation pack or the security system. I have no one blocked and I did the reset routine and still nothing, except the notecard keeps getting delivered.

Update - Tried the reset again and then it all worked.
