  1. If the fixes are not working then please do take the time to update the FS JIRA - otherwise the developers will never know.

The issue is (as far as I am aware) caused by Apple tightening up on access to devices like the mic so that code which is not signed can no longer access that - which is why the pop up never appears. Adding in the app manually to the accessibility option instructs the OS that it can bypass those restrictions normally in place and it will generate the prompt but this may take a couple of attempts. So it all depends upon which version of MacOS your straw poll of Mac users were running on (in addition to which architecture).

It makes perfect sense not to allow unsigned code to access things like the mic and camera - who wants an app to potentially spy upon them with no way to tracing back to the actual culprit. I am sure that when FS stopped singing the app (due to costs) they did not envisage these changes that Apple would make to unsigned apps and device access.

Please, if this is not working then rather than posting here - take it to the FS JIRA so it can actually get looked at and worked on for you.

  2. I don't actually think that there is enough demand from people for what will be just a text based client to justify what will be quite some serious development costs. From my experience of text based clients and those using them have been of orange clouds that go offline if the app no longer is running in the foreground and a very poor user experience from the UI.

I am sure that some people do want and would indeed use a mobile client but that's is tiny fraction of the population and there are already mobile offerings.

  3. There is a new fix for this on the latest release of Firestorm ......

Okay, so I have a workaround that I've used on both of my M1 machines and both of my Intel machines and while it's a bit of a PITA, once you get the magic mic permission box to pop, it's permanent and you don't need to do any more workarounds.

See if you can get this to work or if we need to add something to these instructions:

Get everything downloaded and running as you normally would.

Go to Firestorm Avatar -> Preferences -> Sound and Media -> Voice -> Uncheck enable voice

    Exit firestorm

Go to mac System Preferences > Firewall > Firewall Options and click on the add button and add Firestorm-Releasex64.app

Now under the privacy tab in those same system preferences, scroll down to Accessibility

Click on the add button and add Firestorm-Releasex64.app again.

    Now log into Firestorm.

Wait for things to render and settle.

Go to Avatar -> Preferences -> and click on the enable voice check box, then hit refresh.

I was able to get the mic permissions box to pop and then things work like they should.

On one machine, it didn't work the first time, so I unchecked, logged off, logged back on, let it sit a minute, tried again, and it worked the second time, so ymmv.

    Good luck!

Full details of the issue can be viewed here - https://jira.firestormviewer.org/browse/FIRE-31395

  4. This is what is called a false positive - many malware and anti-virus apps build up a list of known trusted apps that they refer to. As this is a new version of Firestorm it is not yet on that list so it flags the app up as potentially troublesome. As long as you downloaded from the official site for FS then no need to worry.

Have to echo what others have said - if you are using Windows Defender there is absolutely no reason to have Norton as well (especially as they charge for the thing). You are running two file scanners on your system and that will impact performance.

On an occasion when I applied to purchase some land which had just been abandoned, it was pointed out to me that the wait for seven days was actually a grace period for the person that abandoned the land, in case they changed their mind and wanted it back.

It's great that they do that - I'm sure some people abandon land and then regret the decision not knowing they have have it reversed if they ask.

  6. Savvy sim owners do their best to ensure that their creations are covering as many timezones as they can - to cater only to US evening means they miss out on the EU market. Additionally those that only cater to the EU miss out on the US market.

  7. I did this myself on a plot of land that was abandoned adjacent to my own parcel. I got a reply saying that policy is to wait seven days from the plot being abandoned and if more than one raised a ticket then it goes to auction otherwise it gets set for sale to me for 1L$ per sqm

because of the sheer bloody volume of inane club chatter and gesture rubbish they were getting from SL translator scripts

Oh, I forgot the infohub spewage.  I am sure that "helped".

This and the fact that the $$$$$ making machine that is Google saw yet another way to pull in people so that got used to the app and then put it behind a paywall.

  9. My own view on IMVU (having tried it out a couple of years back) is that it actually offers nothing for those used to the Second Life experience - it's nothing really other that static chatrooms you can dress up and stand or sit in various poses. No walking around - no exploring and discovering fantastic interconnected places.

They may both be an online social platform but that deliver it in totally different ways. IMVU is (as far as I understand it) for the generation addicted to their mobiles as it runs on that.

    No thanks

While the new homes are in short supply right now, all styles are periodically available, as they are regularly abandoned by previous owners.  It may take a little patience and persistence, but you will find something eventually if you keep at it.  As for the issue itself, I'm sure they are aware of it, and will resolve it at the earliest opportunity.

It nothing to do with availability - they show as available but the web server itself returns an error 504 (general timeout error) once you accept the terms & conditions.
