no that is a character length issue. the special char set WILL show just fine if i stay under the char limit. special chars can count as more thn one char, which i knew from scripting a gesture hud. what i needed was a way to knw if it was viewer or server side and how much char length for each. so i could adjust the display name i was trying to create. stop spreading misinformation just bcause YOU dont like special characters.
what confused me was the fact one of the chars did show aftr relog, but not the others. when scriptin my hud the script simply threw an error. i would have thought the display name would too.

not sure if the font uses a 2 byte charset or is from an extended 3 byte charset. However, if length is 1 or 2 (depending on charset) then the name has been truncated by the Linden dataserver somehow. If length is 16 (or more depending on charset) then it is the viewer truncating it
in either case file a JIRA, highlighting the issue

i'm startin to wonder if any of you actually read my first post.
the first character DOES show. all the characters are frm the same character set. but every character aftr the first one doesnt show once i relog. (and only show as the first character on my account page on the website even bfore relog.)
example: if "Lilith Abdelnour" were written in a special charactr set, only the "L" shows up. every charactr after that does not show up AFTER a relog. the change shows above my head in my name tag UNTIL i relog.
so if i type in 𝕃𝕚𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝔸𝕓𝕕𝕖𝕝𝕟𝕠𝕦𝕣 (Lilith Abdelnour), it changes to that. but when i relog, it has turnd into 𝕃 (L) wth all of the other letters gone as if i nevr typed them.
(see attchd pic for example)

This is a resident-to-resident help area, and the most common issue with display name issues is the font being used. I'm not aware of hearing about other causes for the problem you are having, so once you do find out what is causing the issue, you might consider updating this thread with the answer so that everyone can be more knowledgeable next time.
i thought id ask here bfore wasting linden time with a support ticket if someone had the answer. and yes, if i do get the answer elsewhre, i did plan to update.
ETA: update: pls see mollymew's helpful answer on how to determine what mght be truncating your display name

Not to mention that many people "hear" words in their heads when they read them. When the word consists of unpronounceable characters, they get pulled up short, mentally speaking.
Unless you're designing logos or something, text is one of those things that should be simple and as universal as possible.
considring i'm only rendering my actual sl name in special block characters, i dont have this problem. and the sl name shows below the display name. i KNOW there are ppl who dont like special characters. which is why i asked not to be lectured about not usin them. its my display name. only i have to deal wth any difficulties it might cause.
what i need is a technical answer as to why only one special character is showing and not the rest.

considering others are using these characters wthout issue, and that the first character DOES show, this is obviously NOT the answer to my problem. clearly the characters CAN be used. i'm bettin theres a limit on the # of characters, but need to know what that limit mght be. (ETA: and mollymews showd me how to find out)
but thanx for that dose of self-righteous condescension.
now if i could only get a TECHNICAL answer. (ETA: ty to mollymews for provding that)

i have been tryin to change my display name to 𝕃𝕚𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝔸𝕓𝕕𝕖𝕝𝕟𝕠𝕦𝕣 and have run into a problem.
when i first change the display name, it shows up properly as 𝕃𝕚𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝔸𝕓𝕕𝕖𝕝𝕟𝕠𝕦𝕣, and is changed above my head.
but in my profile, and on my account name on the website, it only shows up as 𝕃. all the other letters are missing. and my friends also only see it as 𝕃, even tho its showing as 𝕃𝕚𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝔸𝕓𝕕𝕖𝕝𝕟𝕠𝕦𝕣 to me. after i relog, it also only shows as 𝕃 above my head as well.
i've tried it wth differnt character sets as well, with the same problem.
has anyone else hd this issue, and is it fixable? i'm using both firestorm and catznip. (catznip doesnt show special characters at all for me, for anyone. the issue i'm describing is a firestorm one)
pls dont give me advice about how i shouldn't use special characters, etc.
i'd just like an answer to my question.
ETA: what i need is a technical answer as to why only one special character is showing and not the rest.

I am on board with this idea, but I agree with all the points Pussycat made. Homes will need to appeal to more than just mers to make it feasible for the Lindens to create a whole new theme. We mers are (like it or not) a minority community. So the builds will need to be attractive to landwalkers too. And special rules for what can be rezzed on the surface would be mandatory. Otherwise people would start rezzing "raft homes".

ok - im dyslexic an nt good at typing but im going to say my bit an thats it
if you have trouble reading my typing, pls jst dont read. dont insult or attack me fr something i cant help. no, spell check doesnt help.
i use caps fr emphasis. im nt shouting at you.
1. it doesnt mattr how YOU define gambling. your opinion doesnt matter hre. the only opinions who matter are the lawmakers in multpl countries that are making laws and defining it. THEY have decide ANY chance based mchanism involved in getting wht you want is gamblng and are in procss to make them iilegal. your opinion tht they are like gumbll mashines is irrelvant.
2. it dosnt matter which countris are doin this or whether they have establshd laws yet. they are ACTIVELY wrkin on it. LL legal cousel has advised them to chang things NOW to AVOID future lawsiuts. other companis, BIGGER compnies have already been sued - fr huge amunts of mony LL cld never afford if THEY were sued. so they are mitigating the risk to their business by acting NOW, before something happens.
3. your opinon of their decison doesnt matter. they are doing this to protect THEIR intrsts and th wider intrests of th SL community. no mater what YOU like doing/creating, SL DOESNT revolve arnd gacha. the majorty of ppl in SL do many othr things and wldnt want a lawsuit to sue LL out of existnce. LL doesnt want that either because then theyve faild their shareholders. so no matter how many times you say you think this is a mistake, or complain hw it affects your business, or that you nw have nothing to do in SL..... it doesnt matter. LL hs to become compliant with the laws that are being developd all over the world, BEFORE they go into effect, to protct their bsness, shareholders, an residnts.
4. trying to gt arnd whats coming by rushing to create new 'not-gacha' machines is pointless and dangerus. pointles because LL hsnt yet relesed guidelines of what will be acceptable altrnatves. dangerous because if you strt using unregulatd machines, youre riskin being in violaton of the ban. and no one currntly knows what consequence LL will levy for delibrate attempts to get around the rules.
5. demanding mor answers from LL before they are rdy to discuss it wont do any good. they are only goin to say what their lawyers have advsed them to. no more, no less. they will say what they are advsed to say, when theyre advisd to say it. crying, pleading, dmanding wll do nothing an only make YOU agitated, and you still wont gt what you want.
6. LL alrdy GAVE some rules on how this is goin to roll out. read thm. accept them. because those rules arnt going to change, no matter hw much you plead. and keep eyes open for further clarificatons and additonal rules.

tl;dr: your personal beliefs, concerns, or preferences do not factr into the decison being made here. it is a business an premptive legal decison that LL believes will be best for the company, shareholders, and the greatest amount of residents. LL WILL let us knw how to comply goin forward. and we have no choice but to do it. we residents are like hotel guests on LLs platform - we follow th rules of the establishmnt or we'll be 'fined' or asked to leave. (the 'fine' in this case would be things like stores retrnd, accounts locked, or similr things.)
sometimes in life, you jst cant have what you want. disappointment: it happns. this is something everyone lernd as childrn, or shld have.
