K I've got Demos for Slink, Gianni, Jake, and Adam
I guess what's confusing me is when I was in there getting demos I kept seeing an OMEGA sign everywhere.. like I am guessing those are skins..?
So if OMEGA are skins.. why does it matter which brand of body I choose? All the bodies seem to look the same.. and if you can just change the shape anyways.. why does it matter?
-
Thanks all for the help and brand names and what not but what do I need to look for on the MP? I'm really not understanding what I need to put together a mesh av... like just search for ''mesh'' in the skins category? But then how do I adjust or get a shape for the skin to fit on?

most likely as Jeny said it's Signature....
BUT
if you'r back after a absence... go look around, try everything and dont buy anything yet before you know what is is! ... another very good mesh body is Belleza Jake, or Slink.
These two have the big + of having a lower renderingcost.
Demo..demo..demo and read a lot, for example here http://meshbodyaddicts.com/
don't step in the trap of buying TMP ... it's simply obsolete, and you'll regret it.
TMP? The Market Place?

They probably meant Signature Gianni Mesh Body. Remember to demo everything
Thanks yea I asked her and she said you were right lol so thanks!
But where do I find a Singature Gianni Mesh Body ? Who makes it? I really don't know where to start..
Do they make specific clothes or something for Gianni Mesh Body? I'm so confused =X

Just getting back into SL and first I heard bento is the way to go and someone today in SL said she heard Singular Avis were the best for men.. First time ever hearing of Singular.. but I Googled and have no clue what it is or what I'm looking for lol..
Can someone explain or break down what I need for the new bells and whistles in SL for a high quality male AV?
Thanks!
-
I'm a str8 male in both SL/RL and that title to this topic just happened lol
I'm a good ol Tennessee boy looking for a shopping buddy as all this new mumbo jumbo mesh/mesh body etc is a bit overwhelming
This is a new AV and I just want a fresh start.. my first AV is 7 years old but hated the username and didn't have much anyways aside from a good skin and some clothes and dances.
I was around for Mesh clothes and never really found any mesh hair I liked.. but now I'm hearing there's mesh everything.. like bodies..body parts.. etc etc so it'd be nice to hang with a female for a few hours to break me in on all this new stuff and help me look good again.
I haven't uploaded any lindens yet as I'd like to make a wish list so to speak and figure out exactly how much I need and then upload.
If anyone out there has the time and wants to make a new friend in the process hit me up in world. I will probably be on my old account hanging out til someone messages me as I receive offline messages to email so hit me up anytime and I'll try to hop on and we can do this
Thanks!

When you tell us you've tried it all and nothing works about the only thing we can say is... bye...
You can probably find out what's happening by looking in the viewer logs. Here's the How To.
-----------------------------------------------
Thanks. I saved a copy of the logs but I can not upload a text file to my post.. I am going to post them in a quote below.. hopefully someone that knows logs can figure out what's wrong.

Are you using Windows 10?
What's your graphics card? Are you able to run the 32bit version of Firestorm or does that also get stuck at Initializing VFS?
If you can run the 32bit version, please go to Help -> About Firestorm & paste all your system information into a comment here.
I was actually able to launch 32 bit just fine specs are below:

You didn't explain what sort of "everything" you tried, but if it didn't include a close look at your firewall, do that next.
I Have done everything on the firestorm website for vfs issues...
No clue what to do for firewall. Firestorm has worked fine for years on my pc. Just not recently. And I haven't made any changes to any firewall settings.

Before you attempt to login, Click Help from the Menu and then 'About Firestorm'. Copy and paste the results here.
How am I supposed to do that when Firestorm won't even open.......
I said it's getting stuck at initializing vfs. Therefore it won't even open to the login screen... -
For the last few weeks I have literally had to do a complete reinstall of Firestorm at least once or twice per week. It never goes past Initializing VFS
I've read through the FAQ about Initializing VFS and have done everything it says. It says the last thing to do if the other suggestions don't work is a complete clean install which I have to do a couple times per week and is highly annoying.
Now, I have just done 2 complete clean installs and I still can't get past Initializing VFS... I did a complete clean install and it didn't work so I did another.. still can't get past Initializing VFS
What else can I do?? This is crazy!
-
Well I haven't added any money in the last couple of years.. but surely that doesn't matter? If it does that's a bunch of bull
I checked my limits in the limits section and like I said, it's at zero.. everything is zero.. I can add money but I can't cash any out which is silly if you ask me.

Ummmm... you did try to simply log off your alt and then log on your main, didn't you?
In any case, this definitely sounds like a problem with your web browser's autologon function being a bit over-enthusiastic so if you can't get it to behave, try to log on with a different browser or on a different computer.
Yes I actually logged into the main Dashboard area where you can manage your lindens and everything with my main character. The lindens showed up and everything that's on him.. I just have a zero dollar cash out limit for some reason on him.. even though he's been in SL and payment info for 7 years..
I'm just here to find out why that is..
-
I've had payment info on SL for years. I haven't played in a while but I now have 2,064 Lindens that I would like to send to my PayPal account but under my trading limits it says that I'm a New Resident 2 tier.
Why is that? My limits for cashing out are literally ZERO dollars.
That's absurd considering I've added money to the game in the past.. I've been able to cash out in previous years.. why can't I now?
edit: For some reason it autologged me into my alt.. My main has been in SL for 7 years and has payment info on file for 7 years..
-
Thanks you two. Sounds really confusing but yes this is the direction I was looking for. Hopefully I can learn it pretty quickly lol
I do have one weird question though.. I'm not understanding how its a good idea to get a head separately .. I mean don't you add mesh skins to the mesh body? Wouldn't the skin not go with the body you got or something? I'm all confused lol
But will definitely start looking at Mesh Body Addicts. Thanks for that.

I don't mind how expensive it will be. I just want to know about this new stuff.. so I can begin planning for it and trying things on.. shopping.. etc etc.
I want to flat out know what's the NEWEST TREND RIGHT NOW in SL and I wan't to know all about it. Like a dummies guide.
For instance.. I'm not sure this is it or not but I've heard words thrown around like there's new AV tech that is on an actual skeletal structure.. I've heard the term Bento and Catwa thrown around.. is that the new stuff?
Can someone point me in the right direction? I don't want to live in the past. I want to grow and adapt to this new wave of Second Life no matter the cost.

I've been around SL for over 5 years now. Not every day by any means. I'll play casually for a couple months. Break. Couple more months. A year break. Play a few more months. Etc etc.
I try to keep my AV looking up to date but I am finding it hard to stay in the know and up to date on everything in SL.
I've been using "FRUK Knox Skin" for a while now which isn't a mesh AV but I wear mesh clothes and still get compliments.
I've always used the same hairstyle from MADesigns too as it's the only one I ever found in SL that I like. It's not mesh though and people have suggested mesh hair to me before but I never found a hairstyle similar to the one I have been wearing that I really really like.I guess I'm here for upgrade guidance as it would be nice to have a brand new skin/shape and hopefully I'll find some hair during the journey.
I've heard the newer stuff can even lower Sim lag so that's great news!Sadly. As I said earlier. I'm not in the know or anything so I have no clue what the new stuff is or where to find it.
Was hoping someone could point me to a guide or something where I can read up on it and how to use it. Where to find it. Etc etc.

Just getting back into SL from a few years break.. made a new AV to start fresh.. had some stuff on my other AV that was transferable like a pair of shoes.. there not that great but its something..
Anyways they look huge on my AV and I noticed I had a resize script on my previous AV so I sent that over as well.
The shoes perms are NO COPY / Transfer OK / MODIFY OK
But when I try to drop a script in its contents it's showing that it's locked for some reason..
What gives?

please delete this thread. It fixed itself after a few days.

Don't worry too much about it, especially as you can't spend money right now.
Think of new SL bodies as being like professional system cameras - you need to be aware of what "system" you bought into when you start shopping for them, but you don't actually need one at all to take snapshots. Eventually, yes; you might want to get one but there's no hurry.
As has been said, the "classic" starter avatars have a lot of fairly useful things for now. Another place to look is The Free Dove. Avoid anyplace with "Freebie" in the name. Seriously, most of what you'll find in those places will be ten years old by now.
Thanks but IDK I guess it would be nice to figure out how all of that works so when I do have money on here I can know what to look for and can get started shopping right away instead of spending most of my time running around stores like a chicken with its head cut off lol

@ChrisDiamond865 I've just gone through the gallery for the Men Only Hunt. Be aware that this is themed as a 'Hipsta Hunt' so if that's not your aesthetic some of the items won't appeal to you. However, I'm about as far removed from a hipster as one can get, and I still have a list of 16 items I want to get from the hunt, so it's worth doing. There are some great accessories and a few nice clothing items.
Since you've been away for a few years, there are a few things you need to look out for if you do this hunt (and for shopping in general).
- Anything that's marked with either a logo or text saying either 'classic', 'standard', or 'standard sizing' will work on a non-mesh avatar.
- Anything that's marked only with logos such as 'TMP', 'Slink', 'Signature' etc is created to work with a certain brand of mesh avatar. While these may work on a classic avatar, be aware that there very likely won't be an alpha layer to remove parts of the system body under the clothing, because mesh bodies use a HUD system to do that. It's possible to re-purpose other alpha layers that you have, so if the item is a freebie or a hunt gift it's still worth getting to try it out. You can get free packs of alpha layers for various body parts on Marketplace.
- Anything marked as an 'applier' will only work on a mesh avatar. This includes both head and body appliers for skins. (Example: there's a fantastic skin in this hunt from 7 Deadly s{K}ins, but it's applier-only.) While some designers will include a classic skin with mesh body appliers, these are increasingly being sold in various separate packs as people need to mix and match according to what body parts they have. Appliers can be body/head-specific (eg: Catwa head, Slink body, etc) or they may have the purple Omega logo (which means that - with the correct Omega relay HUD - they can be used on almost any mesh body part with the exception of TMP, which has its own proprietary 'installer' system).
- Many tattoos that have applier logos on them will also contain a 'classic' or 'standard' version for the basic system body. Sometimes it's not obvious from the ad image, so try editing the sale board and looking in the contents. With luck (assuming it's not all packed in a box inside there, or a vendor with just a script) you'll be able to see if there are standard tattoo layers inside.
One last note on customising a newb avatar on a limited budget: don't forget the inventory library. The avatar selection has been vastly improved of late, which you'll probably have noticed when you were creating your new account. If you check out the classic avatars in the library you'll find a surprising amount of usable stuff, from mesh eyes to some fairly decent skins and hair. Try each avatar on once to put it into your main library, then dig through those folders for stuff you can use. There's even a serviceable AO in each folder that will get rid of the duck-waddle until you can pull something better together.
Wow, thanks for that long lengthy write up. I appreciate it. That sounds really really reallllly confusing and overwhelming though

Men Only Hunt is going on right now, free stuff and will give you a taste of what shops are offering out there.
Awesome sounds fun! How does one find out about this Men Only hunt? Sorry it's been so long I don't remember where/how to stay in the know and find these things lol

Look up 'Vista AO' and 'Akeyo AO' on Marketplace. Both of them have a good basic L$1 male AO, and if you're familiar with editing things like that you can pull the animations out of both to create your own AO (or put them into Firestorm's built-in AO, if you're using that viewer).
Currently, there's a free fatpack male hairstyle at Exile, so that's worth getting. As to other stuff, join the Gabriel group, head to their store, and pick up some of their group gifts. Last time I checked they had some decent footwear on the group gift wall. Finally, Free Dove has a few good male clothing items, but the Dulce Secrets male skin pack there is definitely worth checking out to get you started.
Thanks so much! Sadly I only have $65L to my name and I can't really afford to be adding any more money on SL for a little while at least so any decent freebie recommendations are very helpful! Will check out the ones you mentioned. Thanks again!

I've been in SL off and on for ages it seems. Several years anyways.
However, I'm completely doing away with my last AV and want a fresh start since I haven't played in 3+ years. That means everything I spent $$$ on will be gone seeing as I can't transfer any of it since it's not transferable..
So with that said, I don't want to just jump right in and start throwing money into SL. I want to start slow and work my way up so to speak.
Are there any places out there that help out new comers/new AVs?
I've been on the Marketplace for a bit now and not finding any free stuff worth trying.
I remember back in the day some places would have a welcome package with a basic AO and a look or two to get you started but I'm not seeing a single free AO on the MP so curious if there's any in world places I could go to?
Thanks!
edit: Not sure what all has changed either these last few years.. I was around when mesh was out.. never found any good mesh hairs tho for guys..or a mesh AV.. some girl was telling me a few weeks ago that there's new tech in game where you have to update to the latest phoenix viewer to see it that the viewer before the latest one wouldn't even show it.. what was she referring to? It had something to do with a special mesh or something... I heard a term thrown around also called Omega? What's that?
Sorry for the questions at the end just trying to get caught up on things and get back into the swing of things without being/looking nooby
Singular avi for men?

Thanks so much I will definitely watch those video tutorials. I hate feeling like a noob. This is honestly so confusing to me but once I understand it better I will be fine. (whenever that will be, who knows)
I just really don't know which body to go for at this point.. I just don't understand why Slink is so good if it sounds like most the stuff wont work with it since they don't include hands/feet
