  1. Thanks. I found the answer. On the log-in page, instead of logging in to either Home or Last Location, I typed in that name of a different region, and was able to log in successfully.

  2. 1) How many people can a region hold?

    2) How many people can a half or a quarter of a region hold?

    2) How many more people can a region hold if it has (what I have heard called) "event sim status"?

    3) Can you get "event sim status" for a single event on a singe day?

*sorry if it's cheating to ask more than one question at a time . . . . thanks ~ Haiku

  3. Further information on the problem: I cannot access* some of the LMs in the Second Life viewer (but I CAN access all of them in the FS viewer).

BUT 1) if (while in the SL viewer) all the textures are removed from the notecard, I CAN access all of the LMs.

    2) If no textures are deleted, but some of the "good" LMs are removed, I CAN access all of the LMs (while in the SL viewer).

So it appears to be a memory problem for me in the SL viewer. (NOTE: other people cannot access some of the LMs in the FS viewer, even though I can.)

How do I find the size of the notecard to see if/when it exceeds the 65,536 byte limit?

*cannot access = click on the LM in the notecard and nothing happens: you don't get the Place Profile with the teleport button, and you don't get asked "Copy to Inventory?"

  4. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I think my notecard may be too large: it contains many textures (pictures of the landmark locations) as well as landmarks. In Rowan's link I saw this: "There is an old problem with old notecards created on V1 based viewers (including old official 1.23) - some of these old notecards that contain a very large number of full perm assets, for example sounds or landmarks do not work properly when attempting to copy the stored assets back to inventory. A lot of the assets will fail to copy over. "

And in https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Notecard I see that "The maximum size of a notecard is 65,536 bytes. "

Since there is no consistency among the people who cannot access ALL the landmarks, it may have to do with their cache?

Also: I myself can access all the landmarks when I am in Firestorm, but not when I am in the Second Life viewer.

How do I find the size of my notecard?

  5. thanks. I'm pretty sure it's not the landmark because I threw away the first batch and revisited all the locations to get all new landmarks. I then recreated a new notecard (full perm) and embedded these new landmarks. Again, they all worked for me, but only some of them worked for a friend. And there didn't seem to be any consistency among the landmarks which worked and didn't work for the friend.

Is there some setting in Preferences or the Drop Down menus that might be different from me and my friends, which would seem to explain the inconsistency among the working and broken landmarks for different people?

  6. While in the SL viewer I made a full perm (next owner, group and anyone) notecard with landmarks embedded in it. The landmarks are in different regions.

The notecard is full perm for the next owner, group and anyone.

All of the landmarks work for me and for some of the people who receive the card.

But other people say that some landmarks work and others don't. And it is not the same landmarks that are broken for everyone. Different people have different landmarks that don't work for them.

How can I create a notecard with several embedded landmarks that work for everyone?

  7. Thanks for the suggestion. I did file a support case, and just received this response:

    Hello Haiku Quan,

Thank you for contacting Second Life Support and for your patience.

I'm sorry for the trouble you are having with your events. We are aware of an issue in our events system that can cause new events to be flagged as a duplicate of a past event, even if that past event is already disabled. Our engineers are working toward a more permanent resolution, but in the meantime we do our best to find creative workarounds.

If you need to make a correction in your event's description or title, you should be able to use the Edit option in the Events menu. If this is not working for you, please contact Support and we may be able to make the changes from our side. Once an event is deleted, it will no longer be visible from your side and cannot be changed. However, we can also re-enable events you have deleted if needed.

Has the event you were trying to create already passed? If not, could you please tell us the date, time, and title of the event? If you still need changes to be made to it, we will be happy to assist you.

We look forward to your response!

    Best Wishes,

    Mint Linden

  8. I wrote a listing for an event and posted it. I immediately realized I had written it incorrectly, and deleted the listing. But now when I try to list that event, I am told I cannot because it is a duplicate of one I already listed. The deleted event is not in the Event Listings, so there is no duplicate. But I keep getting told, even days later, that the listing is a duplicate.

How can I get around this erroneous refusal of a non-existing duplicate, and list this event?

  9. A friend has contacted me. She received an email saying access to her SL account has been terminated due to her violation of community standards regarding *****. The letter did not specify what she was accused of, or of how she might clear her name and restore her account.

She has a "16 year old" minor as a variation of her avatar, but the minor is simply the "daughter" of her usual avatar and has not engaged in any sexual activity.

Is there any appeal from such a termination?

Is there some way she can ask for an explanation, and tell her side of whatever it is she is accused of?

She has been in Second Life for years, and has invested significantly in her inventory. She has never before been accused by anyone of anything.

  10. I'm trying to open a Marketplace Store.

When asked for the Link to Inworld Store, I type "Leodegrance ( 169, 203, 66)", which is what shows at the top of my viewer when I TP to the store.

But I'm told "Link to inworld store is not a valid url".

What should I be entering as the link?

  11. What are the best ways to let people know about my Free Museum (Leodegrance: 169, 203, 66)?

It is not commercial, there's nothing for sale. I have contacted some of the best artists in SL and purchased the right to give away copies of almost 100 of their best works. It's just my way of giving back to SL.

How do I get listed in Search? Might the museum qualify for the Destination Guide? How else to get word out?

  12. How do I create one of these?

I saw a sculpture (alphatribe 162, 183, 22) that had an invisible object sitting next to it. The object emitted a nice melody that you could not hear until you approached within about 20 meters from the sculpture. The closer you got to the sculpture, the louder the melody got, until it reached a nice volume when you were next to the sculpture. But the melody could not be heard beyond about 20 meters.

I have my own sculpture. I know how to create an invisible object (Texture > Transparency > 100%). And I have the MP3 of a melody I like.

How do I create one of these soft-playing objects to put near the sculpture?
