I've cleared cache and it keeps saying Login Failed Updating Friends List

It wont allow me to log into SL. it says its updating my friends list and i've been trying for almost 4 hours. has this ever happened to anyone else?

im on pheonix and someone went offline, but it still shows them online and instead of an outline of a head, theres a green box, what is this?
