[Can I buy a free island for educational use?]

I am a professor at a university. I would like to open a course covering virtual worlds and distance learning. Second Life is an appropriate platform for my course. I wonder if Linden Lab offers a free island for educational purpose.

[SL update schedule]

I wonder if there is any website for us to keep up with the schedule for update. Through SL Grid Status Report, I know the schedule for maintenance but I could not find the information for updating software.
