We are excited to announce that as of today, you can start using our initial release of 2k BOM (Bakes On Mesh) support on the Aditi beta grid! While we have conducted internal testing, we would love for you, our dedicated residents, to explore this new feature thoroughly. Your participation will help us identify and resolve any potential bugs that may have slipped through our testing.

In conjunction with the introduction of 2k BOM, we have also streamlined the process for accessing the beta grid. Previously, residents were required to submit a support ticket to manually copy their accounts to Aditi. This process is now automated. Upon your first login attempt to the beta grid, your account will automatically sync, significantly simplifying access. Please be aware that the initial login may experience a brief delay as your account is copied over, but subsequent logins will proceed without delay.

We anticipate a temporary increase in system activity due to these enhancements. If you encounter any issues with these new enhancements, we highly recommend attending the Server User Group meetings held every Tuesday at 1 PM PST in the Denby region. Alternatively, you can submit a bug or feature request on feedback.secondlife.com. Your feedback is essential for refining and improving our services.

    How Does 2k BOM Work?

You might be wondering, “Will all these new 2k textures slow my GPU to a crawl?” Fear not! There are built-in limitations that keep things running smoothly. Bake will still produce 1024x1024 textures if no 2k textures are included in your layers. In fact, it will always use the highest resolution among the inputs. So, if you only have 512x512 layers, your result will be a 512x512 texture. And for those worried about 2k eyes—they’re safely capped at 512x512.

    Here are some quick examples:

    • Several layers with 512x512 and 1024x1024 textures: The largest resolution is 1024x1024, so your bake will be 1024x1024, with 512x512 layers upscaled to match.
    • Layers only with 512x512 textures: The result will be 512x512, no changes there.
    • Several layers with 1024x1024 and one 2048x2048 texture: All 1024x1024 textures will be upscaled, resulting in a glorious 2k bake.

    Inventory Synchronization

Each night, the beta grid will sync your inventory from Agni, provided you have logged into the beta grid within the past 24 hours. If you encounter issues where inventory items appear to be missing after synchronization, clearing your viewer's cache should resolve the problem, as it may have cached your old inventory.

We encourage you to dive in and explore these new features. Your input is key to ensuring the success of these enhancements. Happy baking!

    Best regards,
    Pepper Linden

  7. Hi Everybody!

I would like to introduce a new member of the Linden Support team, Boxy 5000.

Boxy 5000 is a virtual assistant/support bot trainee.

But wait, wasn’t there already a chatbot who answered questions for premium users? Indeed there was! Boxy 3000 was the earlier model of the trainee chatbot.

We are learning from some design flaws and moving forward with a more advanced bot. Boxy 3000 has been re-invented and given an extra 2000!

But wait a second time! Won’t this bring about the machine apocalypse? Not just yet–Boxy 5000 is more advanced and learns as they go but Skynet is still a few upgrades away.

The upgraded bot will be a 24/7 support option for both premium and non-premium residents! (Previously only available for premium customers.)

Boxy will have the ability to answer commonly asked questions, keep you up to date on current issues, help with ticket submission and in some cases handle a support request.

Boxy has uses for all residents, from early adopters to fresh new faces.

For new and more casual residents Boxy is available to help them find the support they need.

For our seasoned veterans Boxy can offer support options for some specific requests. Specifically, Boxy will be able to submit an abuse report on your behalf and in some cases help with the restart of a region!

Boxy will continue to learn as we go. Boxy might not have all the answers currently, but we will continue to review questions posed and help the bot to better answer your support queries.

We realize that a chat bot is not a substitute for a customer support representative, and this bot is not meant to be. It is however meant to help when we are unavailable or may be experiencing higher call volumes.

For premium residents Boxy will only be the first point of contact before being passed to a support representative during office hours. Utilize Boxy to help better explain your issue once you are transferred to a support representative. Outside of office hours Boxy can help or create a ticket for when we are back in the office.

The ability to get an answer to your question or to get your issue resolved without having to wait until our Support Lindens are available is Boxy’s primary directive.

Anyone interested in saying hello to Boxy can access it by logging into our support portal. The Boxy 5000 chat widget should appear in the bottom right hand corner of your screen.

    Boxy 5000, it’s advanced…
