  9. On the Second Life team we are always talking about ways to improve the in-world experience. Often we hear from the Support team about problems with inventory loading times. We dug into this problem and discovered that many of you have inventories which may partially or never load, and even worse, can prevent you from logging in. We have identified a couple of ways the Support Team can fix the most common issues for you. Starting Tuesday, June 21st, Support will implement a process to stabilize only those inventories affected. For the small group of Residents this affects, you may see a change to the organization of your inventory, but all your objects are still there. If you encounter any difficulty with your inventory, please reach out to our Support Team https://support.secondlife.com Why it’s important to organize inventory You can do your part to make your inventory load completely. Organizing your items into folders with fewer items at the same level can make a big difference: Ease of use: Finding what you’re looking for when you want it Saving money: Not buying something you already have because you can’t find it Saves you time: Do you really want to scroll through thousands of folders looking for the outfit you bought last week? Or is it faster to go into your Clothing Folder? The Vehicles Folder? Tips! Start organizing your inventory early It’s a great idea to create a few top level folders which represent common things you buy such as Hair, Jewelry, Shoes, etc. Many people also organized clothing into categories. Get rid of demos When buying a demo and trying it out, you know pretty fast if you like it -- and usually if you do, you buy the non-demo version soon after. As a result, search for demos in my inventory and if you no longer need them, move them all in the trash. Clean your trash out regularly And speaking of trash, it’s much easier to catch an accidental deletion when you’re only looking through a few dozen folders versus thousands of items. Renaming Folders Did you just buy an exceptional item but the folder’s named in a way that it doesn’t identify what it is? Rename it. Think about naming an item “long lace dress with high neckline - Red”. Your own name for an item is more meaningful to me than “**~~XX BRANDNAME~~** Tiffany Red” Clean out Lost and Found If things are returned to you or possibly detached, they may appear or get returned to your Lost and Found folder. Many times it’s going to appear as a Coalesced Object (a collection of different objects returned as one mass, shown with an orange box icon with a bite taken out of it). Rezz these coalesced objects and take each item back into your inventory so you can find them again. Sandboxes are a great place to do this. Don’t have a Lost And Found folder? That’s great! It means you don’t have anything in it! Move things out of your Received Items Folder You can wear and use items directly from your Received Items section (at the bottom of your inventory window). But it’s not a good place to keep them long-term. Take a moment each time you receive an item to move it somewhere in your main inventory that makes sense to you. Troubleshooting Inventory issues Missing or Lost Inventory? Second Life is very large and very complex, but not all missing inventory is truly lost. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_Recovery_Steps Antivirus, Firewall and Security Applications While everyone should keep their home network and computers safe, sometimes overly cautious applications or settings may interfere with the communication between the Second Life Viewer and our Inventory servers. This could result in errors like “body part missing from database” and in these cases those assets may be permanently lost.. Here is further information about setting up a firewall to work with Second Life: Too many friends It is possible to have “too many” friends. Check your Calling Cards folder and remove any duplicates. New inventory error message “There was a problem loading your inventory. First, try logging out and logging in again. If you see this message again, contact Support to correct the problem.” This error message is new in the Second Life Viewer and is shown to let you know that your inventory has problems. The sooner you contact Support to resolve this problem, the better! Inventory problems may worsen over time if you keep trying to connect to Second Life before getting assistance from Support. Please note -- clearing the cache and relaunching Second Life will not resolve this specific, new problem that results in this warning message. Note: We have reports that residents who have changed the “NoInventoryLibrary” debug setting to “True” will see this error message and not be able to load their inventory. That issue has been reported at BUG-231865. The quick workaround is to change that setting to False. If you have changed this setting and are still seeing the error message, you should contact support. You may contact Support directly at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case. Choose “Submit a Case,” select Technical Question > Inventory Issue, and complete the rest of the form to get assistance. Our amazing Support team is aware of these issues and is on the lookout for these new cases. Second Life University Second Life’s Director of Product, Alexa Linden, will be on a Second Life University livestream tomorrow covering these inventory management tips, and more! Watch it live on May 19th at 11:30am PT on the Second Life YouTube channel. We will be monitoring the YouTube chat and answering your questions.

  12. Would you like to learn more about creating and modifying your Second Life avatar? Explore more of the Destination Guide? Perhaps you’re looking to acquire advanced knowledge of scripting and building in Second Life, or learn all about amazing inworld photography. Welcome to Second Life University, a new project that aims to teach people all about the vast virtual world of Second Life! There are many videos and tutorials out there for Second Life already, including Second Life Tutorials on our YouTube channel as well as those created by our Residents, — and we’d like to consolidate information in one place as well as ensure that all content is up-to-date. We will begin with topics that are particularly relevant for newer users. This is a huge project that will take time, and we’re excited to work on and collaborate with the community to make it easily understandable and fun. Also, we are keeping in mind that everyone learns in different ways, whether that’s watching and listening to a video, reading a text tutorial, or participating in an interactive Q&A livestream — so what does that mean? Thursday, April 7th, at 2pm PT, we’ll be kicking off Second Life University by doing our very first interactive livestream all about Second Life Viewer Basics. After the livestream, we’ll be posting general notes on topics covered in the video here in text format, too. You can also get written information and assistance from our Knowledge Base and the Community Forums. Stay tuned for future updates. Happy learning! UPDATE: Look in the description of the video on YouTube for a list of all topics covered, along with a timestamp to the exact moment it was covered in the video.

  14. Hello everyone, The reason I have decided to post here for your help, because my goal is being a creator on SL. I would like to gain new experience when I start working on mesh clothes for the future. It would be a good opportunity to learn how to make mesh clothing. However, it does not get enough help from tutorials on YouTube. So, I am looking for someone who is willing to teach me how to do it or take a class at inworld college. I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me with this as we meet up instead of YouTube. Then it would be helpful to learn from one of the creators if possible. First of all, I understand your concern because you might think that I will use you or steal your ideas. That means the creators do not want to help "new creators" to make success like you. That's why some of my friends told me what's going on. There is no reason how they are afraid of people who will steal things from them. But for me, I would never do it like that. I respect the best creators because one of them would be my tutor and adore her/him. Or if they're friends and creators could teach their own friends. When I will be successful in the future, then I'd like to say thank her/him as my teacher for that. If someone doesn't feel comfortable meeting up to teach me in person, then I definitely understand but I really hope the one is willing to do it. I also hope to hear from you as much as possible. Thank you for your advice. Respectfully IW: Keoniio Legecy: ᴋᴇᴏɴɪ ᴊᴏɴᴇꜱ ɴᴏʙʟᴇ
  15. Its always been my experience that raw snapshots taken in Second Life are not as focused as they could be. They tend to be slightly undefined. Taking snapshots with the Black Dragon viewer makes a difference, but can be very impactful on PC resources. Whichever viewer you use, knowing how to sharpen a Second Life photograph is essential, as its one of those select tools that can help make your images pop. Click here to view the tutorial
  16. In this tutorial we focus on creating Second Life panoramic images that scroll seamlessly and continuously across the screen when your PC is idle, using a lightweight and free programme called WPanorama. https://www.sl-inspiration.com/2020/02/create-panoramic-screen-saver-using.html Below is an example of a screen saver I made using images taken at DLabs. Click the link above to view the tutorial.
  17. Hi, here is something I put together with photos I edited,... ok ok me and my Alt did it, shes giving me this look so I had to include her..:p( Spoiled Princess) I have everything on a neat lil notecard too so just holler at me to get it Gem Strait(gem oxygen in-world. I am Gem Oxygen, me and my alt have put together a little something to help you learn how to set your parcel to prevent griefers and maximize your enjoyment of your home. I have included photos for visuals. If you still don't get it please join the Bellisseria Citizens group and lots of helpful residents will help you. So you got a Linden lab home and have no idea how to set permissions let's start with getting to the parcel detail window: Click the land and you will get a pie menu popping up , click the ABOUT LAND button and a window will pop up, this is your parcel details. This whole window will give you magic ability's. Please use the photos, it will help you a lot. Parcel Details button: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So lets run down each tab in the window: 1. General tab-- Highlighted in GREEN A.This tab you are going to name your parcel and put in a description. This is highlighted in GREEN. B. You will need to have a home group a group just for you, visitors, friends and family can join to be able to build, use furniture, run scripts and set their Home landing point, this is how you set restriction for the parcel which I will show you in a bit. If you do not have a group you will need to make one, this is very important because Linden Labs does not allow you to restrict the land to the public which causes ban lines and those are a no no in Bellisseria residential homes. Click the SET button( Highlighted in RED) and a pop up window to the side will appear, find your HOME group, select it and hit the OK button. You will see the parcel now set to your group. WARNING********* You do not need to deed your parcel to a group. 2. Parcel Covenant tab--Highlighted in GREEN A. The next tab has the Linden labs rules and guidelines for the parcel. It is very important you read these. Oh I know everyone hates reading the fine print and TOS blah blah but these rules and guidelines not only will prevent you from getting that dreaded Linden Lab email or a IM from a Linden Mole but it will also make you a better neighbor and make the whole community happier 3. Object Information tab--Highlighted in GREEN A. This tab shows information about what you and others have rezzed on your parcel. It also hows how many prims allotted to that parcel, how many you have used and how many prims left for you to use. B.If you allow group Rezzing or public use that is ok, however to prevent someone from abusing the Rezzing ability on your parcel, you can set a timer to allow someone to temp rezz something such as a horse or a bicycle. Most people as a standard set the timer for 10 mins, which is plenty of time to rezz out a vehicle. 4. Parcel options tab-Highlight in RED A. ok this is where the settings here are very important, this tab gives or takes away non parcel owners ability's to rezz, use scripts. To make it very easy for you with out all the details which can be confusing I have highlighted everything you need to have checked in GREEN, the check boxes need to have that little cool check mark in it. Everything that needs to be unchecked is highlighted in RED. No happy little check marks in these boxes please. Now you say the RUN SCRIPTS check boxes has both the everyone and the group ability, yes let me explain a bit. If you have only group members running scripts: Visitors won't be able to use their AO's or any worn huds unless they are in your home group and things they rezz needing script to run won't work, like horses, vehicles anything needing a script to run won't respond. Those who fly vehicles through the lands won't be able to use their flight huds through your parcel so they can accelerate faster to get out quicker. Allowing everyone to run scripts is advisable just make sure you have the Rezzing ability timer set to a time. so even if a griefer or someone who is doing malicious stuff won't be able to keep objects on the parcel. Yes there is griefers who don't need all that to cause harm but those are past the ability we have as residents. 5. Parcel Restrictions- Highlighted in GREEN A. This tab is where you set sound restrictions. It is pretty self explanatory so to simplify the instructions, all the GREEN dotted sections need to have those happy check-marks in all the boxes. 6. Access Tab-Highlighted in GREEN A. Have issue with someone causing you grief? Don't want a ex coming back like a bad penny? Just hate everyone (They have pills for that) Then you will need to learn the Ban hammer tab..... Oh and a lil hint if you have neighbors who love to cam in and touch stuff, like opening and closing doors, turn on on and off lights, you know those ones. Once you add them to the ban list, they can't touch anything in your parcel anymore. It's hard to prove but there is a TOUCH DETECTOR script available on the SL marketplace that will tell on anyone touching anything that has that script in it. B. Click the add button( Highlighted in GREEN) and a pop up to the side will come up. You will get a option to search for a name or if they are nearby you can click the nearby button and a name list will come up. just put in name or click the name and it will be added to the list below the search bar. Once you click a name another lil pop to the side of that will show, this is the ban timer, you can set it for how ever many days or always which will be forever. Once you follow these steps you are all set to start enjoying your parcel. If you still have issues please go to Linden Labs support on your account page, often Live support can help verses filing a report. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sl is about fun and unfortunately a few make it UN-fun. I Rarely have run into those I inform about the rules and guidelines put forth by LL come back with a nasty " Tude" most usually don't know, some never even knew the Parcel window existing. One thing about letting people know is not to make them feel stupid or ignorant, it's about the way you approach people, it's down to you and how you are perceived by your peers. If you are not good at talking to people or think someone will take your information wrong, them please ask someone to help you that generally have good people skills.Nothing wrong with getting a lil help to make SL more enjoyable for all. We have so many people moving to the new Linden lands from the old Linden homes and from the Mainlands, which sadly had little to no community. My how things have changed..... Reach out and go to that neighbor, head over an don't feel intimidated with a little conversation, even if you have no common interests in general.. you have one at least, Bellisseria. Welcome to Second Life and welcome to Bellisseria.
  18. Hello! As we all know, Second Life is all about having an experience-- an enjoyable one! But that's not entirely what this topic is about; this topic is a request for help. I'll start by saying that I am not paid or endorsed in any way by anyone. I merely want to help. There is someone in one of my groups that is not getting an enjoyable experience out of SL, specifically, learning to be a content creator for SL. They are deaf, and do not learn well by text alone, or even image guided text. Video isn't very helpful either. Instead of us getting frustrated, as anyone can understandably be when language barriers are involved, I figured I'd reach out and see if anyone was willing to help. Tutorials all across Youtube, and the internet in general are a fantastic resource, but mostly for the hearing. I was hoping there might be at least one person who'd be willing to get with people like Avastar (who one of the moderators thought was a fantastic idea) to do Sign Language translations for the instructions going on in the video. I'm sure it would make a world of difference for this one person in the group, and likely MANY more. And it would be awesome if it could go beyond Avastar, and branch out into other tutorials pertinent to SL. PLEASE, let me know if you're able to do this! I don't know Sign Language (yet) but I'm hoping to learn, and help. Thanks.
  19. Hey there. I'm looking for a tutor whom I could ask a few basic questions about Sculpts, like making shade maps & that sort of thing. I asked in the Builders' Brewery group, & members insisted upon Mesh & kept asking me "why" I wanted sculpts, which had not a thing to do with my questions about finding resources to learn how to sculpt, not at all. 1 < 3 Hats. I looked & looked online, & I finally found that somebody had written a patch for compatibility with the Blender 2.49b plugin for creating & exporting SL Sculpt Maps, & have made various sculpt maps, though I thought to find someone that could give me a few pointers. "Like Drawing Paper & Colored Pencils, Sculpts are here to stay!!" Gracias.
  20. Been on sl for nearly 10 years, but the last two years I've hardly been online. An rl friend of mine came online two weeks ago and have a hard time to get any clothes to fit. He bought a mesh shape and skin, not quite sure if his body is a mesh body... it is the one he chose when he came online and I think the avatar name was Adam... Can anyone here explane to me the differnce between a mesh body and a mesh shape? If my friend have a mesh body, does he always need to use mesh shape and skin? Can any mesh shape and skin go with his body? And last, but not least Are there any good tutorila sites/videos explaning all this mesh (mess!) stuff?? Hugs and kisses from Anne
  21. Here is the playlist (currently 8 videos) for the new Blender Cycles Tutorials. This starts pretty much at the beginning assuming very little knowledge of Blender although I am sure I left out some things along the way.
  22. I have a number of forum post where I've put video tutorials on how to make things or do things in SL. None of the videos are there now, and pretty much all the links around the web pointing to these forum posts are now completely pointless. Seems strange that I see many product review videos still in the forums, but the actually useful videos are now gone. Why was all this time spent making product review videos available, but it seems no effort to salvage video tutorials? Will we be able to embed video again soon, or do we all need to wait for LL? It only makes sense to allow embedded videos, as then users are coming to the forums for this stuff, instead of places like YouTube.
