  1. I have a very old routine of linked messages passing between scripts where a listen or sensor event will pick up a message and concatenate the relevant key of an object or avatar before passing it to other scripts in the same prim. The message is processed in the other scripts using a series of conditions testing variations of something like this … llDeleteSubString(message, 0, 5); … where the first part in this case is expected to be a six-letter string and the second part will be a key in any case. The system works fine — so long as I'm paying attention and change the length of the expected message where necessary — but there are quite a few conditions in each of several scripts and I was wondering if, aside from the question of human error, it might be more efficient to pass the linked messages as a temporary list from the first script … list whatever = [message]; whatever += "," + uuid; llMessageLinked(-4, 1, (string)whatever, ""); whatever = []; … break it down in other scripts with something like … list whatever = llParseString2List(message,[,],[]); object = llList2String(whatever, 0); uuid = llList2String(whatever, 1); … and work away with a simpler set of conditions. Doubtless experienced developers will find the answer to my question trivial but I'll ask it any way because I'm thick as two short planks when it comes to the overheads on script routines. The benchmark for me is purely an instinct that if I see the same line or even a similar syntax too often, the routine might be written more succinctly. Any other suggestions would be welcome — would a strided list be better, for instance — I'd like to be clear about what I'm doing before I change so many lines. NB: For what it's worth, the code is old and has never been in production — I have a hang-up about distributing scripts in-world unless I'm confident they have the washboard stomach and trim overheads of Greek statuary.
  2. Dear Scribblers I am trying to cast a string value to a float such as float type = (float)"4*PI/2"; though the string is in a string variable . This seems to bring back 4 not around 6.9. Is there a function to make this evaluate. It also seems it seems float value = (float)"4*3.1472/2"; wont evaluate either if held in string variable. How can i do this calculation from a string please? D
  3. Hello, I was using my own string_replace() function which I wrote using strictly string functions: https://prnt.sc/qqc2pp Today I run onto this one-liner which is using lists instead: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Combined_Library#Replace (I didn't bother "deciphering" the 2nd implementation with all those ~- SL specific hacks lol) I was wondering if I have anything significant to gain if I start using that one-liner instead of my function. Seems like that the one-liner produces smaller bytecode by 512 bytes, tho I can't be sure cause I checked with llGetUsedMemory() and Mono is supposed to allocate needed memory in 512 chunks, but my query is more about any significant run-time benefits regarding memory and/or speed. Thanks!
  4. Given a string, you need to remove a certain word from it, is it possible to implement it? I did not find the delete function in the string specification
