  1. Hello So today I was playing "Second Life" when my whole Acer Aspire E15-522 laptop just froze up and restarted on me without warning or anything I was no where near my laptop when it happened also I was around no lag issues or anyone at all. Laptop Link - https://www.cnet.com/products/acer-aspire-e5-522-89w6-15-6-a8-7410-4-gb-ram-500-gb-hdd/ I have had the same issue happen with another game called "Perfect World International" It has also happened to me while watching something on Netflix which I found very, very strange The issues had seemed to stop for awhile I'm not sure what has changed or what I did to cause the issue again but it is getting really annoying. I have 4.00 GB Memory (3.46 Usable) and here are the specs websites for both games below Second Life - https://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/ Perfect World International - https://pwi.gamepedia.com/System_Requirements Please note that my husband has the same laptop as me only bought 1 year later then mine and he has had no issues that I been having regards to this. Also I have done the battery reset and doing the F2 and F9 I think it was to put everything to defaults and save it. Also another question in this forum are the Memory in this laptop could it be upgraded to a 8.00 GB?? I don't remember if it can or not. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied from my about below Firestorm 6.3.2 (58052) Sep 28 2019 09:08:31 (32bit) (Firestorm-Release) with Havok support Release Notes CPU: AMD A8-7410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics (2195.88 MHz) Memory: 3543 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit (Build 9200) Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. 2. Hello Everyone, so I need some assistance trying to find a desktop or laptop that plays Second Life the best. I want to be able to be on ultra settings, with shadows and good lighting. My hubby is getting me any desktop or computer I want this December and I’m not sure what to get. I’ve read many forums on this matter and all I see is everyone arguing saying their computer runs second Life the best, then someone always chimes in and says that particular computer isn’t good for gaming. So I’m very confused lol. Please let me know what you think is the best computer is for ultra settings, shadows, barley any glitches ect.. (I know there is not a totally PERFECT computer, I know there will always be lag here and there, I just want a computer that best goes with second life’s graphics) btw I currently have an Alienware 2006 laptop with a nivida graphics card that is outdated and I can barley run second Life on good graphics, let alone with any shadows or lights on.
  3. I am due a new laptop and have about £1000 ($1250) to spend. I don't want anything too bulky but want something that will handle SL ok. Any recommendations? All advice/suggestions welcome. I have seen a Huawei Matebook X PRO 13.9-Inch Intel Core i7 16GB 512GB SSD Ultrabook Laptop but there are 2 versions - Intel UHD Graphics 620 version (UK) and Nvidia GeForce MX150 version (rest of the world!) If I could find an Nvidia version I was tempted to get that. Thoughts?
  4. I'm not looking for specific product recommendations, but ways to compare different laptops and judge the relative ease of running Second Life on them. And yes, it does have to be a laptop! I'm still in a bit of a muddle about processors - here's what I've gathered so far: An Intel i5 or i7 in the most recent generations (7 or 8) would be best, and the two-letter suffixes are better while the Y and M suffixes are the worst. So, for example, and i5 8500 HQ would be better than an i7 5420 U? (Made up processors but hopefully demos the formula.) When it comes to clock speed (GHz), it would mostly depend on how many cores or threads the demands of Second Life can be split over. (Does anybody know this??) I normally slow my machine down by having a lot of Office-level programs open at once while working, which would make having more cores or threading ability a priority over clock speed. When SL is open, though, those programs aren't, so if the cores/threading factor is relevant to SL then it can use them all and the first prioritization stands (I can get away with a lower baseline clock speed if I still have a bunch of cores/threads). If Second Life needs to single-thread, though, then the opposite priority (high clock speed) would need to be accommodated too... Getting a more recent generation processor would probably also reduce my need for high clock speed, if each clock cycle is more efficient in a newer model. Is any of that kind of accurate?? I will confess, I'm not much of a technology person, but it's more that I don't bother looking at this stuff often than that I find it intimidating when I do. As for the graphics card: This will actually make a bigger difference to SL than my processor (although I still want a decent one of those!). However, there's some relation between the generation of the processor and graphics card performance? Having a separate one will make more of a difference than having a flashier integrated one NVIDIA will be better than AMD due to the latter's lack of interest in supporting SL's use of OpenGL. (Is this a blanket 'don't get AMD' or a 'use this as a decider at comparable price' difference though?) Then comes the RAM: Anything below 8GB will be sacrificing performance. 6GB would be functional? (Although by current machine is 6GB and it has performance issues with SL, not sure what is at the root of them though. Hopefully improving all other specs would minimize the problem caused by a 6GB RAM? Or I can just find 8+GB affordably on my hunt.) Haven't yet looked at screen resolutions etc. but feel that this is more fundamental stuff to understand first. (No?) I don't play any computer games, and I would rather understand specifically what makes Second Life tick than just get something with the "gaming laptop" label, so any advice that helps me compare what's out there for myself would be very, very much appreciated!
  5. What would be the best/decent laptop for someone who spends up to 5 hrs on SL, sim hop to events constantly (uses mid settings), who does photos and/or videos (uses high settings). Also that can run games like World of Warcraft or Sims 4 etc. Preferably able to change components for later upgrades if that's possible? And within $500-$1000 price range. I am not tech savvy so any advice is greatly appreciated!
  6. Hello everybody! I need to buy a laptop for college and I need SL to work on it. I am not an avid SL user, I only need it for bio class. I also need Microsoft etc. My budget is $400.
  8. Hello Everyone ! So like the title says, i would like your help about setting the best graphic parameters to get the best performance in Second Life. Here a little more informations about my computer: - it's an Asus Laptop - Windows 10 Home - 6gb ram - CPU intel core i3 2.30ghz So i tried playing a little bit with the Nvdia settings panel but i'm not sure much of what i was doing. i've set the power settings management mode to Max performance among other things... i'm using Firestorm's viewer (the last release, always updating it) i've already made the required modification in the viewer settings, and now i would like to see what i can tweek in the nvdia panel for the best performances. If someone could guide me in setting the best Nvidia parameters to increase my FPS in Second Life, i would be very grateful : D Best Regards. SpeendaSh
