  1. For those who don't know, Linden Realms is an old-school adventure game the Lindens built within SL, and is accessed via Portal Park. Completion of the game rewards the SL resident with L$50, and this reward can be received once per week. Over a year this amounts to L$2600 that residents can spend on clothing, tier fees, whatever they like. This has been particularly handy for new residents, and for anyone with no payment info on file. Recently LL changed Linden Realms rules to now require that residents who play the game have payment info on file, and must use that to buy L$, before the game will provide that L$50 reward. This cut the number of players significantly - and presumably then the amount of funds spent by the impacted residents. Now another change. Several days ago LL halved the game completion reward from L$50 to just L$25. The effect on Linden Realms has been chilling: the place is now essentially a ghost town, as lonely as most of the rest of SL. I suspect that LL may have changed these rules for three reasons: 1) to cut losses created by the massive number of game exploiters / cheaters; to force an increase of the Tilia user base, and 3) to increase the amount of funds being handled by Tilia. Maybe this fiscal clean-up operation will allow SL's new owner to reinvest, and we'll see improvements inworld. My fear though is the other impacts: residents with no credit card who are now shut out of a way to make L$, residents with payment info on file but who cannot buy Linden Dollars during the pandemic economy, and the negative impact this indirectly creates for those who normally would have received those funds: the makers, sellers, landlords, etc. SL's new owner already increased the SL MP commission charged to retailers, forcing increased prices. Some shops have closed; others advertise reduced prices at their inworld stores. I hope this all works out for SL in the long run. But in the short term providing residents less money to spend, and squeezing more out of makers/sellers, may make SL less attractive to residents, makers, and property investors. So much of SL is already a ghost town; I hope that turning Linden Realms into a ghost town too will be the end of their cull. The impacts of these steps taken by SL's new owner will likely be felt widely by the inworld economy, and I have to wonder what's next? With any kind of luck these efforts to increase SL profitability don't end up killing it.
  2. If I want to set homes or stores on my land available to rent out to anyone, do I need to be the estate manager? Or can I do this within a parcel I am renting? I'm looking at the Casperlet rental system, but the description isn't very clear on how it works. Am I able to set a designated area (say, 500 meters sq) included as the tenant's rental? Is it preconfigured, or is that something all together separate (for example, installing a security orb to allow them to keep other people out of their home..) Also, say I give them 100 prims in their rental, are they then able to rez up to 100 prims anywhere on my parcel? Or only in their rented area? Do I need to have the rights to sub parcel out spaces on my parcel? Or does a tool like Casperlet bypass that need? Thanks!
  3. Sometimes I think it would be fun to stick a high-rise condo/apartment type complex on a beach, but whenever I see them in my travels they don't seem to be very active. Do people pay to rent space in a high-rise? Is there a tutorial for setting up something like that? Thanks. I hope you all are having a great summer considering...
  4. I currently own a 30k region that I am looking to sell (rent out) for residential (and possibly commercial) use. I am just seeking some advice, and excuse me if my wording and links don't completely make sense, I think that this is my 3rd day of being awake. What is a good way to gauge how I price the rental boxes? I've thought up having 1st week's rent in land purchase. Should I just do full residential, or is it okay to have mixed zoning? Touching on the above, what makes a for a good covenant? How should I write it? What information should it have? Best way(s) to advertise? I've split the land into 1/16ths, is that okay? That's all I've got. If you can think of anything else I may be leaving out, please, do not hesitate to let me know.

  7. I rented a small store that uses the CasperLet system. Payment was accepted, and the CasperLet box recognizes me as the tenant. But I can't rez anything. The group invite never reaches me. If I touch the rental box, it gives me various tenant options, including "Grp Inv". Clicking that gets me a message "[11:35] (Unnamed): You should have received a group invite now." But no group invite shows up. Of course, the landlord is offline, their sales rep is offline, and nobody is answering their ticket system. It's on a private region, and a vacant store in a row of stores with similar rental boxes, so it's probably a legit rental box.
  8. Hi, I never thought about this before so maybe landlords didn't either. But I just TPed to my best friends place cause needed a place to veg and build and saw a rental sign and had a property manager pretty much land on top of me in seconds. I know the renter was from TX, but my friend and her partner are in FL. There is a group listed with the property. Any of the others would have paid or figured it out if we knew it was due. Inside I find the place empty. The two others are without power atm in RL, their friends and family on mandatory duty as emergency personnel...SL is supposed to be our retreat but we lose it while in RL having similar issues. It happened and can't be redone but PLEASE, PLEASE, landlords think that maybe someone who is a couple days late is in a similar boat (heck maybe in a boat cause I saw some of the scary TX pictures) If there is a group with the land please take the time out to try and contact them or something. Not that SL homes are as important as RL homes and lives but it hurts where our escape is gone on top of it all. Please everyone stay safe from the odd storms life brings.
