  1. Good Morrow. Do you have an interest in Tudor, England? Have you always wanted to learn more about this intriguing and pivotal period? If yes, Renaissance Island’s Parish of Reading Primley may be the place for you! At Renaissance Island we learn through doing. Whatever education, general interest, or roleplaying experience you have, this is an opportunity to participate in a living museum. Mix healing remedies in the apothecary! Stage a play at the Globe Theatre! There are many ideas as to how a Globe Theatre came to be in our Parish! Share a glass of cider at the pub—we’ve been told it’s the best in all the land! Create a book or tell a story! Partake of a jousting tournie! Attend a period music concert--or play a tune yourself! There are many, many ways to participate! Residency is not a requirement; i.e. you can roleplay without having to rent (though we are always very appreciative for those who do). You do not even have to be human! Although period clothing is unnecessary for visitors, for those wanting to be part of the Parish, it is required; otherwise, it might call too much attention to ourselves. We’ve done well to not have had any accusations of witchcraft over the years! We’ve also never been visited by the plague. Some say it is because of the cats that roam; others say that it’s the vapors that emanate from our sacred well. We are a very welcoming Parish, as a result. Renaissance Island can never be 100% authentic, but we can take certain measures. Ours is a journey to authenticity as we learn more about the period and building/scripting advances. For instance, birds and quadruped animal avatars need to be species that one would find in a Tudor parish or native to England. There was a time a visiting elephant escaped…. There are several options for characters: All roleplay positions are volunteer positions. Below are the roles we have left. HUMANS: Librarian (the sim is sponsored by a library organization, after all!) Printer Blacksmith Manor servants Townsfolk Theatre Director Actors Children (Real life adults wearing a child avatar) Tavern Keeper Miller Sheep Farmers From time to time the Parish may need to contribute to a militia, which in turn would need to have practice and exercises. So far, we’ve never been invaded by outside forces. Those with scripting and/or building skills most welcome. ANIMALS: Farm animals (especially sheep) Dogs Cats Birds native to England Deer native to England Or, pitch us an idea! Contact Amza Hydraconis via notecard or IM for more information, questions and/or a tour. The name of the notecard should be in the following format: Date To Amza Hydraconis frm your user name. (No display names.)

  4. Haven't you ever wondered about Bellisseria's history? Obviously such a well developed place could not pop out of the ground wholly formed. Surely it did not just get pulled up from the ground by some kind of animal. No. Obviously the idea is ridiculous. So I was wondering about Bellisseria's story, where it came from, how it developed, and why people first came to live there before it developed its current construction industry boom. And today I think I may have encountered my first clues. I was strolling through some of the areas near the west coast when I discovered this building here. This is obviously an abandoned barn. So it suggested to me that Bellisseria might have some sort of agricultural history. At least the area around the barn must have served some agricultural purpose. Perhaps this was a place where livestock were kept long ago. Or corn. Or hay. Obviously this must have played some roll in the way that ancient citizens of Bellisseria once were able to deal with their need to make a living. I continued along where I encountered this building behind a clearly different house in an obviously entirely different location and noticed that behind it there was an old building that was just falling apart. Obviously this building was no house. The tank on top is a giveaway that, at one time, it must have served some kind of industrial purpose. I didn't dare go inside considering its condition. And I didn't dare climb up the stairs because I would not have been climbing any sort of Mt. Olive, but rather a dangerous building that should probably be demolished. It's nothing more than a reminder of a Vlasic era that has long since passed, and there was no reason for me to step inside and risk getting hit by a spear or some big chip falling out of the ceiling. Do that and there's be nothing left of me but hamburger. And I'm not the owner of the property anyway (clearly, right? Of course it's not me) and trespassing just wouldn't be kosher. I contacted my fellow Bellisserians letting them know I was in quite a pickle. I could not for the life of me figure out what this meant. After some discussion about how these buildings could fit into the theme of the area, we realized that their condition had to be the result of a lengthy fermentation caused by their exposure to salt, water, and the elements over a long time. So the likeliest scenario was that they were grandfathered in. A check with the Bellisseria Historical Society's records confirmed that these were protected historical sites. In fact, these may have been the first pickle manufacturing facilities in all of Bellisseria! Which just goes to show that the pickle industry in Bellisseria has been important since long before any of us lived there! So now we know what's the dill! Sweet!

  6. I am wondering how many friends here either love or hate the Roman Empire? I know that some people here may share interests about the Roman Empire and how the twin bothers, Romulus and Remus were nursed by a mother wolf near the land the Roman Empire would be born. Romulus killed his brother, Remus, bathed in his blood, and founded Rome. Before Rome, there were the Etrucians and the Etrucian kings. After the Roman Empire expanded its lands, their power became shaky and split into Eastern Roman Empire and Western Roman Empire. Their end had come later on. Here is my quick opinion about it. Hopefully, some of you here may share something in common with other commentaires here. The more I read or watch stuff about Rome, the more I wish that the empire was still around. The fall of the Roman Empire makes me very sad because it meant it's the end of a great empire. However, going to Roman-themed places make me fall in love with them instantly because I have this strong unexplainable affection towards the Roman Empire. I can't explain why and I still can't explain about my strong affection of Rome. It's a long story. Architecture, government, great emperors, generals, military, etc.

  11. The Town of Philomena welcomes you to visit our small town set in the Progressive Era of 1910-1919. Philomena is designed as a small town set in America. With its nostalgic view of the past, the community boasts a park, library, chapel, trolley, museums, shops, and homes. We are not a strict Role-play community, but view ourselves as a venue for virtual living history where we engage in light, situational role-play and enjoy the lifestyle, history, and education the theme offers. Dressing in period clothing and using period items is strongly encouraged. If interested in joining our growing community, please contact Thaddeus Nadeau. 12. Time Portal is sim about time travel. In its center there is a time machine and via several huge time portals you can visit several historical eras. Such as 1930s new York, Victorian London, 1950s USA, 18th century France, Tudor London and soon Rome will be added as well. There are shops, cinemas, theatres, clubs, etc. We do NOT have a dress code so everyone is welcome, dress as you want (the sim is g-rated), roleplay what you want, etc. You could decide to go full historical, like the small community starting up in our Tudor London neighbourhood, or be a time traveller and have your Tardis in your attic. There are rooms and hotel rooms available to live in and regular events. The time machine awaits; http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Time Portal/127/127/1930
