  1. This is my place. I've had it for a bit over a year. I'm still finishing up the landscaping since I had to reorganize it when I recently changed the house. It is simple, but it is in a good area and I really enjoy it.
  2. I am in a mermaid group and own a couple of boats, so I spend a lot of time out on (or under) the Blake Sea. I also rent an island off of Blakes, and that is where I hang out when I want to relax. I go shopping (probably way too often), spend time at some of the beaches, and go to my favorite clubs (Fogbound and The River). I also spend time at both Social Island 1 and Degrand infohub, because most of my inworld friends hang out at those places.
  3. My largest SL expense is the 6,000$L per month that i spend on my rented island, but i dont regret that at all because it is in such a nice, quiet little corner of the Blake Sea. The most expensive single item i bought was 3,000$L for my 38 foot Scarab powerboat, which has been the most fun i've had in SL since i started There have been a few hairstyles and outfits that I have regretted buying, but only because because they ended up looking far worse than i expected them to be.
  4. About a month ago, someone created an alt, and then created a defamatory group aimed and me and a group of my friends, who are all listed by name in the group description. LL's CS clearly states that defamation falls under the category of intolerance, and it seems to be a pretty serious thing for them. Anyway, I have AR'ed this group over 10 times since it was created, and so have other people who are involved, yet LL has yet to act on it. If LL refuses to act on an AR, do i have any other options for getting this group deleted? edit: I need to clarify something...this group i have mentioned was created by an alt account which shares the same start date as the group itself. The first 30+ "members" in the group also all had the exact same creation date, which tells me this person went through alot of trouble to create enough alts to populate his group and make it look legitimate.
  5. The best sailboats i have seen in SL are made by The Mesh Shop (Bandit). Their inworld store is at Dutch Harbor, a couple of sims north and west of the Hollywood Airport in the Blake Sea. They have demos of every boat they have ever made available to try out. You also might try talking to some of the people at Tradewinds Yacht Club. They should have all of the information you want about good quality, realistic sailboats. Bandit boats use SL wind, but i believe you can also set your own wind direction. Either way, they are true sailboats, not just driveable vehicles. The amount of detail that goes into them is incredible, and they usually have plenty of animations built in, that dont use poseballs. Both The Mesh Shop, and Bandit boats can be found on the marketplace. They have seperate page listings even though they are technically the same company. Some other boat builders to look at are Motor Loon and Trudeau.
  6. That is the nonsense I was referring to specifically. While you scoff at the way some of your posts are treated by some of the forum members here, you fail to appreciate that we were once as inexperienced in forum protocol as you and others are, but seem to be hellbent on remaining, however our styles evolved through observation of other's postings. Rather than indulging in ego-centric obstinance, defiance and hyper-emotional hysterionics you might do well to heed some of the advice and modify your forum conduct such that you will earn the respect of the more experienced posters here. Frankly, I do not think you really comprehend what 'we' see. And, just because something is your opinion that reflects what you think does not mean it can not be nonsense. If your logic is invalid, your assumptions incorrect, perceptions skewed then the ensuing opinion, the product of your thoughts, is quite probably nonsense. Deal with it. Lasty, as I suggested in your thread, just post your question, that is well under 100 characters, and leave out the rest of the drama. Im sorry to rain on your parade, derek, but I'm not a conformist, and I have no interest in "earning" your respect. If i have to change to your point of view to be respected, then i would rather be an outcast. Enjoy the view from your pedestal

Derek Torvalar wrote: CleoSertorii wrote: My very first reply was from Derek, who didnt actually say anything, but posted a screenshot of the "answers" section of the forum, which just happens to be the place i have already looked when doing my homework. But you didn't ask your question there did you? And why is that? Because you didn't want to. That other stuff is all nonsense. The Answers section is populated with some of the oldest most experienced residents of SL just waiting for a question. There is nothing wrong with a little order and structure. It makes things, like Answers, easier to find if they are all in the same place and easily accessible, rather than strewn all over a forum site with 20 odd categories. replies like this are what lead me to believe that some of you act as though you think you are the forum elite, and that almost everyone else is inferior to you if they dont do or say things in a way that reflects your own viewpoint. Basically stated...who in the hell died and made you god? It seems as though anyone who participates in this forum, but doesnt do it in exactly the way you (or LL, or Dres, or...) approve of, then somehow they are stupid, or immature, or lazy, or unthinking, or "fill in the blank with some derogatory term". The fact that you people cant see it makes it even worse. My opinion is not nonsense. It is how i think. Because it is different than yours, does that make you right and me wrong? I dont think so. Maybe posting in the answers section will help, maybe it wont, but it is MY decision on which one to post in, not yours. If you dont like it, then dont read it. true, a little order and stucture is fine, but being **bleep** about what forum is appropriate isnt your concern. The moderators will handle that, and if they wish to move my thread, then thats fine with me. You and LL aren't the forum police, so stop acting like it. Also, are you aware that when searching for something, the forum lists results in ALL subsections, so even if things are scattered, it isnt any harder to find. Oh, and here is a little twist i'll bet you didnt know about...the answers section has a character limit (not even enough to type a full sentence) that prevents me from asking my entire question, so please tell me just how helpful that will be?
  8. I would like to offer my opinion here, since i have been the recipient of some of LL's scorn on this exact subject. As you can tell by my post count, i don't post often in here, rather i tend to just read threads to find what information i am after. Recently i had a question regarding sending an abuse report when there wasnt any obvious and straightforward way to do it. I "did my homework" by searching existing threads on the subject, both here and even over at SLUniverse, but was unable to find a satisfactory answer. I made a deliberate decision to post my question in the GD section in the hopes that i migh thave a better chance at getting an answer. As someone already pointed out, GD has far more traffic and what appears to be long-term residents who might have dealt with this issue before. Lazyness or ignorance had nothing to do with it. My very first reply was from Derek, who didnt actually say anything, but posted a screenshot of the "answers" section of the forum, which just happens to be the place i have already looked when doing my homework. I admit, my reply was a little sarcastic, but i think it was appropriate based on my previous experience with Derek. My response was "thanks, derek...why didnt i think of that? ", to which LL replied "because you didn't think?". I honestly wonder if this thread wasn't motivated by what he said to me. So, did i post in an appropriate forum? Yes, i believe I did. Was LL's response to me trollish and unnecessary? Yes, i believe it was. It certainly wasnt helpful at all, and it felt very condescending. LL (and others) have suggested that I get to know the players. Well, i havent done that deliberately, but i have come across many posts made by LL where it seemed obvious thay we was just there to make some dumb**s comment and not contrubute anything useful at all. Based on LL's replies in here, it also seems to me that his "question" isn't even genuine curiosity, but rather just another opportunity for him to put down people who he thinks are inferior (ie. have a different viewpoint). So, my final answer to LL's question "Do YOU think I am being unreasonable in asking that the forums should be used in an effective manner?"...yes, Llazaarus, i think you are being VERY unreasonable, because it is an information and discussion forum for a virtual world populated by ALL different kinds of people. It is not a government agency or NASA, where organization and accuracy are important. If you wish to create the perfect forum environment, maybe you should look into creating your own and limit who can join, that way the rest of us peasants can't ruin your perfect little forum structure.
  9. I can also highly recommend a movelock as your best defense, short of just TP'ing to another sim. I spend a lot of time at one of the welcome areas and the amount of pushing/bumping done by greiefers and trolls about equals what i get from newbies who havent mastered their walk controls yet. It is a scripts disabled area, so many attack huds dont even work. In my case, i use a movelock with a passive bump back feature that i can turn on and off with one click. I only use it with especially annoying pushers who are obviously doing it on purpose. Random bumps from newbs are expected and tolerated, but when someone is intentionally pushing, they get a bump back, and an AR. Some of my friends have encouraged me to buy an attack hud to fight back, but to my mind, that would be lowering myself to a griefer's standards. I prefer the passive defense methods.
  10. i went home to my island, set the sun to midnight, sat in the chair by my campfire, and listened to the surf
  11. yes, i have tried that, but those settings cannot change the spacing between the brows, and that is the most important part of what i am tryting to find. I know it is subtle, but it makes a difference.
  12. Derek Torvalar wrote: That would be both a polite and considerate thing to do, don't you think? You just might make some good friends of the people here. I am sure it would not take hours and hours, and it need not be done on every single post you make. However, if you are going to insinuate yourself into the middle of a discussion I think it is prudent and wise to know just who you are getting involved with as well as to be damn sure you are aware of the subject under discussion. Remember, we are having a discussion in the General Discussion area. But then you weren't here for the real battles of a number of years ago, unless by another name. By all means, you do as you please, but understand how you present to others will determine how you are treated. We like to be entertaining but are not here for your ego-centric entertainment. for the record, i didnt "insinuate" myself into any discussion in this thread...you commented on MY post first, not the other way around, and there was no "debate" going on at the time. I was VERY aware of the subject, which was wall decorations in SL homes, so no need to preach to me. Please dont forget that YOU were the one who started this entire thing by basically ordering my to remove my photo, even if you meant it as some kind of a joke. I dont come in here to entertain anyone, or to be entertained. I use this forum for information, not as an accessory to my social life.
  13. Derek Torvalar wrote: Thank you for making my point for me. I posted the pic in the hope of mollifying you as you seemed to have needed a pic rather desperately. It is usually a good practise (watching McMasters?) to familiarize yourself with the players before wading into the fray. For instance, Caitlin and I have been good friends for 5 years and if she had a problem with my posting to the thread in the manner I have she would have told me to back off. And out of repsect for her I would have. But then Caity knows what I am referring to as she has read a number of the threads posted in the last week that refer to the issues here. You can also look at my posting history, as I have done with you, to get an idea about my style and concerns. my god, are you for real? are you honestly suggesting that before i post anything in any thread anywhere in this forum, that i take hours of my time searching out the "regulars" and read their posts just to get to know what kind of people they are? Its not a freaking battle (or it doesnt have to be)., and i dont see why cerain people have to make it into one. Do i keep having to remind everyone that this was supposed to be a wall decoration showcase thread, not some sort of legal debate? I just wanted to participate and show what ive been working on at home, not get into arguments with a bunch of strangers.

Or is it OK because you haven't given their names, or the names of the avatars they use in SL? fine, should i just pull the damn photo if it will make all of you happy? They are public figures and their identities are well known by anyone who takes the time to look.
