Where do I go or how do I play Linden Realms?

Got a brand new gaming PC today from eCollegePC. It works great, but when I try to boot up Second Life Viewer, it says Initializing VFS... Then after a few seconds, it pops up again in front of the original Initializing VFS... message with another identical message. Then just sits there and never proceeds. What could the problem be?

What types of things can you do in Second Life without having to pay any real money? Is there anything fun, like games and such?

I'm getting a new PC and I'm thinking about getting back into Second Life. Does anyone know of any good camping spots so I can earn some in-game currency?
