  1. I think pictures and videos speak louder than words, all the system info is on the JIRA. But as you see, even though a Linden commented on the JIRA, all he had to say was a criticism of a coworker and a complaint about what I typed based on their website information. I have never seen a program fail to be able to be moved to Applications and I've been using Mac computers (and Windows computers, I own both) for an extremely long time. I think Viewer version 3.0.0.xxxx doesn't work on my computer and I think if you look at the video, you will agree. Please take dramamine before the video if you get motion sickness.
  2. All these glorious "features" of viewer 2.x do not address the many issues which cause so many residents to refuse to use it. #1 for me is that it causes motion disorder seizures. It is not possible to log in to 2.x for even 30 seconds to "change things which might help" because the entire screen image is vibrating so hard I have to head for the medication and a dark room for several hours. I know several other inworld content creators who are unable to stare at the 2.x jittery screen to create. Many of us have long history with other games, but are unable to handle the vibrating screen of 2.x. I have explained this situation over and over, at office hours, to Lindens in person, by im, in emails, in notecards, in blog comments and on the forum. I've received a ton of abuse from 2.x lovers as if motion seizures were somehow discretionary and I should be able to turn them off at will. What I didn't receive was any form of an answer about why viewer 2.x is so jittery and viewer 1.x wasn't. Until I can log in without making myself ill, I can't use viewer 2.x. If you force us all over to 2.x; even more residents will leave. Not because we want to... we wouldn't spend our lives in SL if we wanted to leave. And none of us is looking forward to the day when we're forced to go elsewhere to create our world.
  3. Amanda, the part of your message that reads "we are listening" has been written by various Lindens for the last four years I've been here. Listening is great, but action is better. The changing of our on-line profiles to more private is a good step in the right direction. You're also right about office hours. Little gets done between the anger and the lag. The last office hour I went to was crashed by a griefer and the Lindens didn't come back when the sim did, so we all sat there for 1/2 hour and talked anyway. All this is fine and great but it remains to be seen "how" this communication is handled. The last email I got from the Lab (not the canned AR reply) was pushing me to buy breedable pets. The one before that was to get a Linden Home. Those aren't communication; that's advertising. We have been able to leave comments on JIRA for years, but very rarely does anything happen in response, oh except for the time a creator was banned by a Linden for reopening a Jira he'd closed. That was highly amusing and cost us even more residents than the one who got banned. We have a partially good, mostly awful LSL Scripting Wiki with script libraries years out of date, along with the forums in which nothing can be found. Trying to find any form of SL information on SL sponsored pages is nearly impossible. Google is faster. We have had "connect with Facebook at bitly.garbageletters" on our flash screen for weeks. I do not have a Facebook and never will have one due to corporate policies at my place of employment. However, I did go look at the Second Life page you're pushing us to "Like." ( I am not adding the URL because of your new rules... Spamming, Solicitation and Advertising: Spamming is not allowed. This includes aggressive self-promotion. No advertising or promotion of specific Second Life merchants, Marketplace listings, products, or services, unless the forum area is specifically for the buying or selling of Second Life products or services, for example, a “for sale” or “wanted” forum. Do not reference other websites offering any product or service. prohibit me from posting the Second Life Facebook link as it is an "other website offering any product or service.") Considering that you think Facebook really is the "best place to find out about ... Second Life... get the inside scoop... and more," I clicked all the tabs on your Second Life Facebook page. Did you know, according to Second Life's official Facebook page Philip Rosedale is still the head of SL? Linden Lab was founded in 1999 by Philip Rosedale to create a revolutionary new form of shared experience, where individuals jointly inhabit a 3D landscape and build the world around them. Today this experience, known as the Second Life® world, has a rapidly growing population of Residents from around the globe, who are creating and inhabiting a virtual world of their own design. Founder Philip Rosedale is the former CTO of RealNetworks, where he pioneered the development and deployment of... (read more) There's not one word there about our new CEO, Mr. Humble. Thank you, but I'll pass on Facebook & Twitter as sources of reliable up-to-date-information, even on your official pages.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osua6lilUY8 That video on the Second Life channel contains vile language and insulting to creators and residents alike. I don't want to hear "Mother-bleeper" in a Second Life channel video. Nor do I (as a content creator, sculpty maker & someone who knows how to make meshes) wish to be told to "deal with it," as is flashed at the end of the video. I read film-maker Draxtor's comments about why he made these insults on Dusan Writer's blog. He claims he hurls them at people he calls whiners who refuse to learn new technology. Sorry Draxtor, you hurled insults at the world regardless of where you claimed to have aimed them. I have lost respect for him personally and am amazed anyone at the lab would permit this video on their channel including the thinly bleeped vile words and the textural insult at the end. And before he or another says "you know nothing - you have no right to say anything," let me list some of what I do: I make sculpties, textures, animations, sounds and I script. I know how to make meshes, and I work as a creative in SL. I am not afraid meshes will change the world. In fact, if that ugly green thing in the insulting video, or that pseudo Japanese cottage in the other video, are the best they can do after a year of having the software all to themselves, it's obvious most sculpty makers and avatar creators have nothing to fear from meshes or their creators. However, we have much to fear from a company who thinks F-bombs and "MotherBleepers" are a good way to represent its the world on its official video channel. A company that dizzes its primary building tool, which is the only thing that distinguishes it from other games or "worlds"... A company that disregards the time and effort put forth by residents to comment on upcoming proposals that the community realizes are counterproductive... for example: huge rate hikes on the void sims, forced migration to Zindra continent, forced adult verification, sudden elimination of SL Mentors, favoring one group of "in crowd" creators over all other residents, elimination of camping, forced TOS changes simultaneous with the introduction of the failed 2.0 viewer (so called beta), the protests against proposed display-names chaos... the list is endless. The pattern however is clear. The Lab doesn't care about individual residents, only our money. And the Lab continues to send the same message that last year they denied sending, "Deal with it." Considering the continuing loss of residents and the lack of new signups, I'd suggest it's the Lab which needs to deal with reality, not the residents. Insulting those of us who are left, isn't going to build community.
