  1. Yeah... done it myself once or twice. I once had a build that was linked, in several pieces, all to the maximum 255 links. Yep, one day I unlocked it and accidentally hit delete. My most often made boo-boo though is to click 'select face' in the edit tool after selecting a big linkset, then forget to actually select the face when I apply the new texture. Suddenly my house all goes pink like the flower petals in the vase I was trying to change. These days I put the coordinates and rotation in every linkset's description field; just make sure to update it if the root changes. Then I take a copy and keep it in my Archive folder. It's come in handy several times., including when SL itself somehow deleted half my build during a restart. By the time the ticket to do a rollback had been processed, it was too late.

  4. Reviews just need to go away on Marketplace - they hold little value in reality on either side of the fence. Creators cannot remove reviews (in the scenario the rest of the other reviews remained, so the creator didn't delete and re list it). LL removed the review and likely it meant something in the review was an issue as trust me most of the time they will not remove reviews even the ones that do break the "rules" as they don't review the majority of flags (form experience). Painting broad strokes works both ways - I have had one star reviews with just bizarre comments: like this house should have been pink as it's my favourite colour (for a wood cabin LOL) and LL don't remove those. Thankfully eventually those old products retire although I will always miss the 1 star review with the need for a pink house! Also the good creators don't give people trouble for reviews they will actually work to understand what the issue is if it is a valid review. But personal taste is subjective so it may not be valid for a creator to make a specific change. But if it something like the sizes missing as another poster put, or the wrong land impact or perms they 100pct should be correcting (but a courtesy message to them versus a review might get more results). There are good and bad on both sides sadly so I can understand those who jump straight to a review versus speaking to the person who made the item first.
  5. You seem to think that a lower rating does not cost the seller, it definitely does, because it can contribute to lowering the stars shown for an item. We have discussed a lot of this at the Web User Group meetings, that the review system needs to change, that you should if you purchased an item, just be able to leave a rating and leave, no names no having to write anything, because not all people want to be seen as endorsing a product. The other way we also discussed the idea that like other rating systems, that clicking the avatar and seeing their full review history would work in everyone's favour, if someone is constantly a downer about all things, then the person reading the reviews could consider that. That someone that seems to only review one brand, would potentially be the discussed 'buying ratings' kind of situation. That someone showing very mindful reviews could be someone you look to as a guide in your future shopping habits and so on. Second Life content creators are often doing it all, and when you poke them, they get really hurt by it, because they take it personally, and many have never worked in customer service industries, so this is all very new to them even if doing it for years. Customers also abuse the system in a way that is very unnecessary, leaving one star reviews to say ' I cannot find the blue' instead of actually attempting to contact the seller or their staff if there are staff. Marketplace has a long history of communication drops, those reviews messages not getting to anyone at all, so if someone is reaching out via them, they go unseen, sometimes for years. Then others want to jump in and growl instead of trying to work out a solution. Review is a misnomer for how Second Life conducts itself as a whole, and the way people rate with stars is too personal to them only. I have asked that we have a clear outline on the stars that 1 means this and 2 means this and so on, so that no one is putting down 3 stars because they like it, but don't love it, because they want to save their 4 - 5 stars for something SUPER DUPER \o/ because that is exactly how some people rate things. In IMDB I had to decide that 7 meant I liked it but probably would not watch it a second time. But no one else knows that is my method. So when someone does a 3 star rating to them 3 stars can mean I use this pretty much exclusively and am happy with my purchase vs a 4 star rating I would strip my whole region and build a pedestal to mount this on it.... to then be overtaken by a 5 star rating that just means you IMd the creator for their paypal account, because you feel that anytime you are in that items presence you want to give them more money and you have currently purchased it 87 times for friends family, and every single stranger you have met since the day of purchase. Then meet the person that feels that every purchase they make that actually arrived should get 5 stars because the very fact that they paid for it means the 5 stars justifies their expense, and they would not want to contradict their choices by lowering the stars Any review left on Marketplace is a 'LOOK AT ME before you buy this thing' whether positive or negative, it is in no way a connection with the creator, because if you wanted to do that, you would just IM them, send a notecard. It will always be seen as hurtful if not flowery. The only thing lower than a 4 should just be that it did not deliver what was advertised, and no response from seller, to warn people that possibly that creator has like many just left, so you get no customer support and don't want someone to lose their lindens like you did. I saw a review once that was bashing a creator because the swing they were selling did not come with the tree, but then it also did not come with the house, the grass, the region and the persons hair, skin, body, shoes, and clothing. Kind of like the Pink House review I also once got an IM/offline all outraged that they got a bag not pants, because they did not know to unpack the bag for the pants. I have dealt with some reviews that have been horrid and cruel and just outright wrong, because you will also find that some customers feel that leaving a bad review on who they see as competition for their favourite brand is somehow doing Gods work. Then also theft, accusations of things that did not happen, and do not exist and been so harmful, and yet sat there for years. The Review response turn around is hit and miss, and sometimes something can happen in a day if you report it vs happening 6 months later that you forgot you even flagged it. But it definitely has to be flagged, and no one is going to flag the 5 star reviews because they should not like your good ones if they don't like your bad ones, that would be on you to go in and remove them if you feel that strongly about that...but that actually just proves the points made, if you were to remove good because of something bad on another item, you would be exactly what you are mad about, that people leave nonsense reviews and can use them as weapons.
  6. Right. Second Life uses four basic mechanisms to keep this distributed system in sync. Lockstep. One side says to A, "do X". A replies "did X". Sim to viewer examples are RegionHandshake/RegionHandshakeReply, and CrossedRegion/CompleteAgentMovement. Eventually consistent. No matter what order the messages come in, the result is the same at the end. ObjectUpdate works this way, mostly. The first ObjectUpdate from a sim for the object creates it in the appropriate region. If the update for a child prim arrives before the root prim, the child is, temporarily, an "orphan" and goes on hold, not appearing on screen because its position info is relative to the root prim, so the viewer doesn't know where to put it yet. When the parent arrives, orphans are placed with their parents and appear in world. This works well; in Sharpview I check for orphans that never found their parent, and, in normal operation, don't find any. Loss-tolerant. As objects move around, their current position is sent via ImprovedTerseObjectUpdate messages. These are shorter than full ObjectUpdate messages. They're sent as "unreliable", and not re-transmitted, because, if you lose one, you want to use a later one, not a stale one that was retransmitted. Reliable and in-order. Events on the event channel, which is a TCP connection, should be both reliable and in order. Due to some implementation problems and middleware, discussed previously, they're not. Monty LInden is working on this. Some of the things that happen around region crossings and teleports aren't in any of those categories. They're "eventually consistent if everything happens in the normal sequence". This is the underlying cause of most of the things that fail intermittently. The theory on how to do this reliably wasn't well developed until 2011. Second Life was designed well before that. There were no standard patterns to follow at the time. My own thinking on this, and this is just me, is this: Single teleports and simple region crossings seem to have been designed to be eventually consistent. Where they are not, that's an ordinary bug. They mostly work, although under overload things go wrong. We see failures at crowded clubs when too many inbound teleports are underway, for example. We see avatars spending too much time in pink cloud mode. Fast multiple teleports and double region crossings just aren't going to work reliably without some kind of lockstep interlock to prevent a second one from starting until the first one has finished. Trying to make all the cases there eventually consistent is a very tough problem. Preventing a second one from starting too soon is easier. Yes, under certain circumstances this will briefly delay some movement. But if there's any significant delay at a double region crossing, it's going to fail anyway.
  7. I'm not goth in RL, but I appreciate the aesthetic. I consider my favorite alt (pictured above) to be goth-lite. I might let her wear a floral print, definitely dark jewel tones, faded tones and greys, but she would never wear a cutsie print. The closest she gets to pastel is a pink ballerina outfit with ripped black fishnet stockings.

  10. OMG, we're actually going to find out that @Rick Nightingale is in the "I love cute pink puppies" group with about 12,00 kawaii girls.
  11. "The delicate pale pink Japanese cherry blossom petals have for thousands of years symbolized spiritual rebirth when they fall each year. Pink was all over in 2023 from Christmas Trees, decor, and even Santa in a pink coat. Why Pink? Pink just makes you think of warm Spring days and childhood innocence and it is not just for girls anymore, in fact, it was considered a masculine color before it was turned into the "pink is for girls" thing." 12. That's exactly what ALL SL drama feels like to me. So dull. It is very, very, very difficult to compete with a beauty guru sitting on a bed surrounded by pink satin pillows and framed by a pink bedazzled Diamonique headboard snuggling the most froo froo freshly groomed pedigree dog ever crying into its fur about whatever mess he got himself into. Man...that YouTube drama HIT. SL needs to step it up, man. We need more viral Diamonique confessions.

  14. very helpful i got my male avatar's toenails back BUT he's got remains of pink nail polish... I have tried different polishes and it persists. Does anyone have nail polish remover please?
  15. Double posting like a dork because I didn't see your last line, there! Definitely don't worry too much, you've already helped a lot! That said, here's some hopefully clear pictures of what I've got currently if you feel like taking a poke at it. The skin I'm currently using is Porcelain Sabine from Pink Fuel (which is also a little old), for reference, too. First, with hair and accessories and all of that good stuff, in-case that helps at all! Annnnd secondly with it taken down to the relative basics for visual clarity: I'll definitely check out all of your recommendations, too! Thanks a bunch!
  16. You're fine if you want to stay with Catwa. My only real complaint with their older (pre-HDPro) line is the HUD. The pink one? Super tiny and very cluttered. The HDPro HUD is a massive improvement, though, and very easy on the eyes, so if anything, I'd tell you guys to look at the Catwa HDPro line just to be able to use that. As for skins, I demo a ton of them from a large variety of stores (human and fantasy) and honestly, I absolutely loathe EvoX skins with a passion, but that comes down to personal preference. I keep some of my Lel heads in normal Evolution mode to avoid having to use them. Older SLUV skins IMO just look a lot more natural, smooth, and far less oily in the skin tones I use, and you can find a bunch of SLUVs on the marketplace if you're ever looking for something. You do not need the latest and greatest in the skin market unless you really want to emphasize your pores for some reason. 😄

  18. Now there is pink and pink. I have a few pink shirts in RL, but: That's what I mean.
  19. And of course, it's bright pink, because as everyone knows. Pink is the colour of EVIL!
  20. About six months back, at Server User Group, there was a big test, where we were all asked to TP in and out of two test regions. This was supposed to test a fix for teleport problems, including the long delays for clothing load that produce pink clouds and backwards heads. The test regions seemed to work well. There seemed to be real progress on incoming teleports. Nothing has been heard about that since. Any idea what happened?
  21. Which continues to be the pink elephant in the room everyone is dancing around. How can we even discuss a sane and sound policy without including the section that triggered all this and likely caused it to become such a widely read document. There been plenty of blogs written in past about ***** and child avatars that did not cause this amount of furor either from residents or the head office.
  22. How do you like the "Tan" / "Sand" combo, a few posts above yours? ETA: I WANTED a "reddish-brown" main, but the two hairs I am wearing don't both allow that color (and the "pink" they DO allow is just a little too much).
  23. It's so pink! Just kidding, of course - good luck and happy blogging!
