Have an avi (user) that 'sits' a touch too high in most any poseball. have done everything imaginable to find the issue.
Took off everything... even went to the 'default avi'... relogged.. and still.. the avi is too high.
What could this be?
Any other user sits correctly on the poseballs in question.
What would make an avi be too high?

Right-click on your avatar and select "Hover Height". That should be in the vicinity of 50. If it's much higher than that, that's your problem. If your feet sink far into the ground after setting hover height near 50, there may be something amiss with your avatar, making SL think you're far taller than you appear. If you have a classic avatar shape, try switching to another one, perhaps from the Library.

Animations are usually made for a certain size avatar and based on the height of the hip above the ground. If you are shorter than the norm then you tend to sink into things.

This was complicated a few months back when the Lab also improved hoverheight. If that slider is wrong then you may be offset in a different way - even outside of the norm with larger/smaller than usual characters.

In most of the TPV viewers there is an interactive hoverheight slider that lets you quickly and easily raise or lower yourself. That slider is usually accessable from the quick menu button on the bottom right of the screen. On Firestorm it looks like a phoenix.

This should be 0 cm for no change, or you can move it right to lift you by that many cm or left to lower you by that many cm

Also note that different pose makers "may" have different placement of their default avatar. Most test on themselves or a variety but there is no way to make a pose the right height for ALL avatars. This is just something that we live with and adjust for, not anything you necessarily did (assuming you didn't change your hover height somewhere along the way).

When sitting on FURNITURE these days you can adjust within the menu. For a pose ball you can also go into the build menu and SELECT the pose ball and THEN SIT on it. That way you can adjust the pose ball as needed while you are on it. That saves lots of hopping up and down.

Good luck.

Thank you also for the response.
This happens laying, sitting, etc.. with a classic or mesh avi with this certain user.
menu adjustments do work for this.. but it is not the real solution here as there is 'something'
making this partiucular user's avi sit high on all poses.

Ok...a few questions. Is the avi that is too high wearing a shoe form/lift with shoes? These are used these days to lift the avi up the proper height for mesh shoes. If the maker of the furniture is using an older script, this can easily cause you to sit higher. It's an old problem that I have had in the past since my avi is a bit shorter than average. That form will affect the height even if it's sitting. They are built in with many shoes but Slink feet you wear the form for the proper height, for instance.

if they are a shortish avatar and wearing a shoebase then they will be higher on a pose sit. Higher than before

since Hover Height came out has become quite pronounced (the sit position) this combination (shoe base + hover) specially with shortish avatars. Quite often have to reduce the Hover Height to negative (less than 0.0)

+

i dont wear shoe base anymore for this reason. Just use the Hover Height to adjust for standing. 0.0 for flats. +something for heels

altho when +something then when sit/lie down, do have to adjust again downto at least 0.0. Or less even sometimes, depending on how the sit object is animated/scripted

Many thanks to all for the many great suggestions..
This one is stumping me good.. :smileyhappy:

In looking at this further.. its even more of a conundrun...
Its seems its not the avi, or anything worn.. (AO, skin, shape, mesh bodies, clothes, shoebase etc) but the particular user
that is getting the issue. extensive testing has been done to eliminate anything worn to be the issue.

Example:  User A (who has the problem) lies on a bed, sits in a chair, cuddles....
If looked at, this user will always appear to be floating..
Seen by User A and any other user logged on.

User B (without the issue) sits or lies in any of those spots.. and is located in the correct elevation.

Both users running the lates version of firestorm in this case.

What could possibly cause one user to have this issue?

Second Life.

If you want to, have user A and B both use the character test avatar with normalized hover height.  They should both be in the same position on any pose ball.  Any other changes from that point on may change that avatar's sitting positionb.  Makeone to male and the other female; different heights.

It's possible that a setting file for that one user is corrupted. This is why I recommended trying another viewer. If everything is fine on that viewer, then the original viewer is to blame. You can either trash the viewer subfolder for the problematic avatar, or do a clean install. If the problem persists across both viewers, then something odd is happening in the asset servers and you may need to open a support case.

Bingo!
this was it... something corrupt in the users settings.. loading obviously with it.
Deleted the setting folder and all is well.
