Advice on creating a middle-aged female avatar

Hello there! I'm very new to second life and would really appreciate some advice on creating a mature female avatar. In particular, can anyone advise on a good mesh body (preferably quite curvy/thick) and a fairly realistic/detailed skin that would work for a middle-aged woman? Any pointers would be really appreciated

The skin is what will make the appearance. Check out Ruby Skins. The creator specializes in skins for an older look. She has shapes as well.

You don't have to stay with a mesh bodies original shape.  Most mesh bodies will respond to the shape sliders in Appearance, though not all.  Get demos of several and try that out.  You can also get a shape you like and wear it when  you wear the demo body.
