How can a Linux user cripple official viewer's (linux version) forced updates, like the one 2 days ago?

According to a jira comment, this is possible. How? (I need step by step instructions)

There was an additional comment added to the jira, after your comment there, which provides 2 ways to accomplish it:

"Open a terminal. Then look where your viewer is placed. Type the path to the viewer and add the --channel NoUpdate e.g (for me it is: /home/mylinuxusername/bin/Second_Life_3_7_28_300847_i686/secondlife --channel NoUpdate

then press enter. 

 

Another way is to edit the menu entry of your Desktop and add the --channel NoUpdate there."

Thank you for the heads up. I already accepted your answer as solution (since Sven does not seem to be active here). However, I'd like to also know how the second way is done. Do you or anyone else know?
