It's also possible that the L.I. of whatever you are trying to rez in much higher than you think it is.  An object that was made with cut and tortured prims and has since been converted to convex hull could have a dramatically higher L.I. now than it once did.  Even a fairly simple object with a lot of scripts could have higher L.I. than you expect.  Try rezzing the object in a large, empty sandbox somewhere to see.
