What actually happens when the viewer "crashes"?

Does the viewer just poof & close to desktop or does the viewer freeze solid or do you get a dialog saying "You have been logged out of Second Life, View IM/Quit" ?

Does the viewer only crash when you right click on mesh objects?  If so, do you have an older AMD card? Some older AMD cards / old AMD driver combinations suffer from a crash when you right click mesh objects (the crash is in the graphics driver).

Can you post your system information?

In the top menu bar of the viewer, go to Help -> About Second Life / viewer name, click the "Copy to clipboard" button & paste all your system information into a comment here.

Hmm yeah, I suspect this is the right click mesh crash, seeing as you have one of the affected cards. This crash is generally only seen with ATI HD 3000 & 4000 series cards.

There are JIRA issues for this crash here:

Firestorm viewer: http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-5569

LL viewer: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28607

I'm not sure which driver version you have installed. 8.97.100.9001-150113a-179335E-ATI seems to be an OEM driver.

It's worth checking you have the latest graphics driver using the AMD driver auto detect tool at http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

It's doubtful whether the latest driver will fix this crash though on your card.

There are 2 other workarounds to stop the crash - either disabling selection outlines or disabling basic shaders when editing mesh.

To disable selection outlines (does not always prevent the crash) - go to Build in the top menu bar -> Options -> untick "Show Selection Outlines", or untick "Show highlight" in the build tools window at the top.

To disable basic shaders (should always prevent the crash) - go to Avatar -> Preferences -> Graphics -> General -> Untick "Basic Shaders".

You only need to keep basic shaders unticked while editing mesh.
